Abstract:An improved synthesis technology of 1-methyl-3-trifluoromethyl-4-pyrazole carboxylic acid which is an important intermediate of pesticides was studied.The title compound was synthesized by sodium cyanoacetate via condensation,acylation,cyclization and hydrolysis.The suitable reaction conditions were found as follows.The condensation reaction was carried out at 40~45℃ for 5 h,and in which the ethanol was used as solvent,the molar ratio of sodium cyanoacetate to N-(methoxymethylene)-N,N-dimethylaminium methanesulfonate is 1:2.5,and under above conditions the yield was improved from 67%(reported in the literatures) to 93.7%.During acylation,TEA was used as acid-capturer,trifluoroacetyl chloride was used to replace phosgene as acylating reagent and the yield of 78.6% was obtained when the molar ratio of 3-(dimethylamino)acrylonitrile,trifluoroacetyl chloride and TEA is 1:1.5:2.The cyclization reaction was carried out in a mixed solvent of methanol and water,and the product yield of 74.3% was obtained.The structures of the intermediates and product were confirmed by 1H-NMR.The proposed process has quite good industrial value because of its high yields,cheap and easily available raw materials,moderate reaction conditions and convenient operations.
Synthesis of 1,1-Cyclohexanediacetic Acid Catalyzed by Dilute Sulfuric Acid in High-Temperature Liquid Water

Abstract:Serious pollution and corrosion problems exist in the industrialized production of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetic acid.In this paper,a new method concerning hydrolysis of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetimide,α,α'-dicyano-compd with ammonia catalyzed by dilute sulfuric acid in high-temperature liquid water(HTLW) was proposed.The influence of initial concentration(0.01-0.1 g/mL),reaction temperature(160-280 ℃) and sulfuric-acid concentration(0%-15%) on the yield of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetic acid was systematically investigated.The results show that 88.31% yield of 1,1-cyclohexanediacetic acid could be reached at the reaction temperature of 220 ℃,sulfuric-acid concentration of 15% and initial mass concentration of 0.05 g/mL,which is higher than industrial process catalyzed with concentrated sulfuric acid.Also,the new process with dilute sulfuric-acid is much greener.

Abstract:A novel process was developed in order to solve the problems in the manufacturing of p-nitrophenyl acetate (PNPA), such as equipment corrosion and low yielding. The p-nitrophenyl acetate was synthesized by the acetylization of sodium p-nitrophenolate, which was prepared by the hydroxylation of p-nitrochlorobenzene (PNCB) under pressure. The effects of reaction temperature, reaction time, alkali liquor concentration on the synthesis were studied. The proper technological conditions of sodium p-nitrophenolate preparation were given as follows: 140°C, 0.3 MPa, the reaction time is 10 h, the molar ratio of sodium hydroxide and p-nitrochlorobenzene was 2.5, the optimal mass fraction of lye was 15%. The yield of p-nitrophenyl acetate was 90.6%.

Abstract:Direct methane conversion to acetic acid (DMCAA) offers a promising approach for transforming the abundant CH4 resources to value‐added chemicals, eliminating the multi‐step processes involving syngas generation and methanol carbonylation in traditional industrial routes. However, this reaction still faces great challenges, which primarily due to the stable C‐H bond of methane and the difficulty in avoiding the over‐oxidation of products. Extensive researches have been conducted on the DMCAA process using different catalytic systems. This review summarizes the progress made in this field over the past decades and categorizes the research achievements according to homogeneous and heterogeneous systems, encompassing the investigations on catalytic mechanisms. Furthermore, the challenges and potential solutions in this field are discussed, which could provide valuable guidance for developing prospective catalysts towards DMCAA.

Abstract:The Monsanto process for the carbonylation of methanol to acetic acid has many advantages such as high conversion of reactants and high yield of the product, but the disadvantages are also apparent, which include the high cost of the catalyst (rhodium) and the severe corrosion to equipment by the co-catalyst iodide. The improvement of Monsanto's technology, the Ir-based catalyst of BP (Cativa(TM) technology) and especially the catalytic mechanism are reviewed. Abstract:With the gradual depletion of petroleum resources, the one-step synthesis of acrylic acid/ methyl acrylate from acetic acid/methyl acetate and formaldehyde via aldol reaction, instead of propylene selective oxidation, has stimulated researchers' interest. Current research in this field focus on catalyst modification, structure–activity relationships, catalytic mechanism and kinetics, and separation process design. The faced challenging problems are efficient catalyst development, mechanism-based kinetics calculation for reactor design and separation process optimization, which hinder the industrial progress, although great efforts have been made in the last decades. Therefore, it is necessary and meaningful to review the achievements as the basis for the further exploration and application in this area. This review aims to systematically summarize and analyze the catalytic performance and structure–activity relationships of developed catalysts, catalytic mechanism and kinetics, and separation process design, as well as suggest the prospective research.

Abstract:The novel efficient procedure has been developed for the oxathioacetalization of carbonyl compounds and 2-mercaptoethanol at room temperature under solvent-free condition. The results showed that the novel multi-SO 3 H functionalized ionic liquid was very efficient for the reactions with the good to excellent yields in short time. Abstract:The novel multi-SO 3 H functionalized strong Brønsted acidic ionic liquid has been prepared and its catalytic activities were investigated through the acetalization. The results showed that the novel catalyst was very efficient for the reaction with the average yield over 90% under solvent-free condition at room temperature. Operational simplicity, without need of any solvent, a small amount of usage, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, applicability to large-scale reactions and reusability are the key features of this methodology. The novel catalyst also has great potential for the green process.

Abstract:Novel acetic acid processes and catalysts have been introduced, commercialized, and improved continuously since the 1950s. The objective of the development of new acetic acid processes has been to reduce raw material consumption, energy requirements, and investment costs. At present, industrial processes for the production of acetic acid are dominated by methanol carbonylation and the oxidation of hydrocarbons such as acetaldehyde, ethylene, n-butane, and naphtha. This paper discusses advances in acetic acid processes and catalysts according to the following routes: (1) methanol carbonylation; (2) methyl formate isomerization; (3) synthesis gas to acetic acid; (4) vapor phase oxidation of ethylene, and (5) other novel technologies.

Abstract:A new method for the synthesis of orthodichloroacetic acid triethyl ester by the reaction of 1,1,1-trichlorotrifluoroethane and sodium alcoholate solution in autocave was reported.The optimistic reaction conditions confirmed by single factor method were as follows:the molar ratio of 1,1,1-trichlorotrifluoroethane to sodium alcoholate was 1∶5.5,the reaction temperature and time were 140℃ and 9 h respectively.The yield could reach to 77.7%.The characters of thissynthetic method is simple operation and mild reaction conditions that is suitable for industrial production.

Abstract:The development of sustainable routes to organic building blocks is a critical endeavor for reducing the environmental impact of chemical synthesis. Biocatalysts are poised to play an important role in sustainable synthesis, as they perform highly selective reactions under mild conditions. The application of enzymes to organic synthesis requires an approach which is operationally simple, inexpensive to prepare, and reasonably scalable. In this work, we demonstrated the utility of a Type I ring-cleaving dioxygenase CatA (P. putida KT2440) for preparative-scale synthesis of muconic acid derivatives. Muconic acids are important precursors in the synthesis of polymers and commodity chemicals. In this work, we optimized the performance of CatA under millimolar substrate concentrations and characterized the activity of the enzyme with an array of catechol substrates. Furthermore, we developed a scalable platform using cellular lysates to produce diverse muconic acids, generating up to a gram of the desired product. A simple trituration procedure was utilized for the purification of these muconic acids that obviated the need for chromatographic purification and reduced overall solvent waste.
Efficient Reductive Dechlorination of Monochloroacetic Acid by Sulfite/UV Process

Abstract:Most halogenated organic compounds (HOCs) are toxic and persistent, and their efficient destruction is currently a challenge. Here, we proposed a sulfite/UV (253.7 nm) process to eliminate HOCs. Monochloroacetic acid (MCAA) was selected as the target compound and was degraded rapidly in the sulfite/UV process. The degradation kinetics were accelerated proportionally to the increased sulfite concentration, while the significant enhancement by increasing pH only occurred in a pH range of 6.0-8.7. The degradation proceeded via a reductive dechlorination mechanism induced by hydrated electron (e(aq)(-)), and complete dechlorination was readily achieved with almost all the chlorine atoms in MCAA released as chloride ions. Mass balance (C and Cl) studies showed that acetate, succinate, sulfoacetate, and chloride ions were the major products, and a degradation pathway was proposed. The dual roles of pH were not only to regulate the S(IV) species distribution but also to control the interconversion between e(aq)(-) and H(•). Effective quantum efficiency (Φ) for the formation of e(aq)(-) in the process was determined to be 0.116 ± 0.002 mol/einstein. The present study may provide a promising alternative for complete dehalogenation of most HOCs and reductive detoxification of numerous toxicants.

Abstract:The use of sulfuric acid to catalyze the synthesis of methyl chloroacetate from chloroacetic acid and methanol leads to equipment corrosion and separation difficulties. To solve the above problems and treat chloroacetic acid efficiently, the esterification of chloroacetic acid was catalyzed with a cation exchange resin in this work. The effects of the alcohol/acid molar ratio, catalyst dosage, reaction temperature, and reaction time were investigated by single-factor and orthogonal experiments. The excellent catalytic performance was reached with 70.11% chloroacetic acid conversion under the optimal reaction conditions of 1.4:1 alcohol/acid molar ratio, 3 wt % catalyst dosage, 70 °C reaction temperature, and 2 h reaction time. In addition, a power-law kinetic model for methyl chloroacetate was developed over a cation exchange resin. The activation energy and the pre-exponential factor were calculated by the Arrhenius equation: E a+ = 38.83 kJ/mol, E a– = 53.64 kJ/mol, A + = 1.71 × 105 L0.84 mol–0.84 h–1, and A – = 1.15 × 105 L0.54 mol–0.54 h–1. After verification, the kinetic model can accurately predict the esterification reaction results of chloroacetic acid and methanol under experimental conditions, which provides theoretical guidance for the simulation of the chloroacetic acid esterification process.

Abstract:The development of environmentally friendly and efficient catalysts for the production of essential chemicals has always been a desirable goal for technology in the chemical industry. In this paper, we fabricated a kind of sodium (Na) super ionic conductor (NASICON)-type materials (H 1-x Ti 2 (PO 4 ) 3-x (SO 4 ) x ) with different Ti/P ratios through tuning titanium content in synthetic mother liquor, and applied them to the aldol condensation reaction of acetic acid (HAc) and formaldehyde (FA) to acrylic acid (AA) and methyl acrylate (MA), which has never been not reported in previous researches. More importantly, these novel catalysts have showed their tremendous potential at the efficiency of AA + MA production, and over an optimized catalyst of NSC-Ti/P-0.53, the AA + MA selectivity being 71% (HAc input-based) was achieved at 360 °C when the reactant with FA/HAc molar ratio of 5:1 was fed; whereas, a highest space–time-yield (STY) of target products (∼37.2 μmol·g −1 ·min −1 ) was obtained with the FA/HAc molar ratio of 1:2.5, which is comparable to the best result reported previously. The detailed analysis of characterizations demonstrated that the change in the Ti/P ratio in the series NASICON catalysts led to the variation in the phase composition, the textural properties, surface titanium oxidation state, etc. thereby tuning the surface acid-base property, which is quite important for the present condensation reaction. More amounts of acidic sites and basic sites as well as their moderate distribution were proved to exert the promotional effects on the formation of AA and MA.

Abstract:Abstract Acetic acid (AA), a vital compound in chemical production and materials manufacturing, is conventionally synthesized by starting with coal or methane through multiple steps including high‐temperature transformations. Here we present a new synthesis of AA from ethane through photocatalytic selective oxidation of ethane by H2O2 at 0‐25°C. The catalyst designed for this process comprises g‐C3N4 with anchored Pd1 single‐atom sites. In‐situ studies and computational simulation suggest the immobilized Pd1 atom becomes positively charged under photocatalytic condition. Under photoirradiation, the holes on the Pd1 single‐atom of OH‐Pd1Å/g‐C3N4 serves as a catalytic site for activating a C‐H instead of C‐C of C2H6 with a low activation barrier of 0.14 eV, through a concerted mechanism. Remarkably, the selectivity for synthesizing AA reaches 98.7%, achieved under atmospheric pressure of ethane at 0°C. By integrating photocatalysis with thermal catalysis, we introduce a highly selective, environmentally friendly, energy‐efficient synthetic route for AA, starting from ethane, presenting a promising alternative for AA synthesis. This integration of photocatalysis in low‐temperature oxidation demonstrates a new route of selective oxidation of light alkanes.
