Abstract:To lower the cost of brushless DC motor controller,designed a new speed control method using hall effect position sensors to provide speed measurements which can work without a high resolution encoder.A fuzzy logic controller was used to fix the system's instability and poor performance of speed adjusting,both of which were caused by the uneven speed sample rate.This method was simulated on computer by Simulink software.A sewing machine control system was also designed employing this new method using TMS320F28027 digital signal processor.The result of experiments showed that system worked stably and effectively.

Abstract:Brushless DC Motor is a kind of a new motor which commutation signals replaces traditional motor mechanical structure with electronic signals. Square wave brushless DC motor can be divided into sensor motor and sensorless motor. Position sensor will increase system cost, motor size and maintenance difficulty, which bring about limitation and limits to promote its application in all areas. This project designs sensorless BLDC Motor control system with the core of the stm32 micro-controller and uses Back-EMF zero-crossing detection method. In the system designing software control algorithm, drawing schematic diagram of hardware and making PCB board have been completed dependently. The experimental results show that the system can well realize the starting and running of sensorless BLDC Motor control system, and have a good measure of protection.

A Novel Starting Method of Sensorless BLDC Motors for Electric Vehicles

Abstract:A novel starting method of the brushless DC (BLDC) motors without position sensor for electric vehicles (EV) is proposed, including detecting of rotor position at standstill and a start-up method to accelerate the rotor up to a certain speed where the conventional position sensorless control methods based on the back EMF could work effectively. The whole starting procedure is accompanied with rotor position estimation, which can avoid the temporary reverse rotation and the starting failure of electric vehicles. The principle of the estimation is based on the variation of the current response caused by the magnetic saturation of the stator core of BLDC motor when the current flows along the magnetic axis. Further more, specific strategies of starting torque optimization and noise reduction are developed to start electric vehicles quickly and smoothly. This method is implemented with only one current sensor at the DC bus of the inverter and a low-cost general-purpose microcontroller, which becomes a simple, compact, low-cost, and effective solution for sensorless BLDC motors in the field of electric vehicles. It is demonstrated experimentally that a rapid and stable starting can be achieved by the proposed method.

Abstract:A dual mode control method of brushless DC motor(BLDCM) either with position sensor or sensorless was presented.The controller worked with position sensor under normal condition,but it would switch to the sensorless mode automatically once the position sensor was broken down or the signal wire got disconnected.The mode tran-sition technology and sensorless rator position detecting technology were mainly discussed.Under the sensorless mode,by using short pulse test method based on the magnetic saturation effect of the stator iron and the maximum probability method,the position of the rator still or at low speed could be located.By using the back EMF zero-crossing point detecting method,the rator's position could be located at higher speed.

Abstract:The rotor position detection of brushless DC motor(BLDCM) without position sensor is studied. According to the mechanical structure and control characteristics of brushless DC motor ,The method of detecting the back electromotive force by zero-crossing is used to model and simulate the position sensorless control system of the brushless DC motor by citing a method of detecting the position of the rotor to obtain the position of the rotor. A mathematical model of the three-phase brushless DC motor was established, and the simulation model of the control system was established in MATLAB/Simulink. The motor armature current, back electromotive force, motor speed, etc. are analyzed at a given speed and variable load. The feasibility of the above control method is verified by experiments, and the normal operation of the brushless DC motor without position sensor in the full speed range is realized.

Abstract:By analyzing the principle of position-sensorless control for brushless DC motor(BLDCM),a control system by means of back-electromotive force(back-EMF) method is designed for electric vehicle(EV).To eliminate the influence on back-EMF detection circuit from motor neutral point and RC filter,the reference point of detection circuit is disconnected from battery cathode,and the phase shifting of back-EMF is compensated by software scheme.The experimental results show that the control system of position-sensorless EV enables to eliminate the influence from motor neutral point to realize zero-crossing detection accurately whenever BLDCM runs at high or low speed.The phase shifting once is compensated,the position-sensorless commutation control is completed to ensure the system reliability and stability.

Abstract:Abstract Sensors of any kind contribute to extra space and electronics when they are used in any application. Besides, the sensor noise also has the effect of altering the overall gain of the system. This is more prevalent in non-linear systems like motor control. In applications which have strict space constraints like Electric vehicles, the use of sensors must be optimized, which, in turn, gave rise to many sensorless state estimation strategies. This paper proposes a novel sensorless control technique for brushless direct current (BLDC) motor used in electric vehicle applications. The concept of sensorless control in BLDC Motor drive eliminates the hall-effect position sensor, thereby giving better performance and improves the robustness of the overall drive system. The main objective of this work is to estimate the position of the motor at standstill condition using stator saturation effect concerning the rotor, accelerate the motor from standstill so that enough back EMF is generated. This acceleration technique speeds up the motor to a stage where a self-actuating control mechanism is used to generate control signals with back EMF or line voltages. The motor can be started with a load, which is a significant constraint for electric vehicle application. The proposed method will avoid the reverse rotation of the motor. The proposed work is simulated in Matlab/Simulink software, and results obtained show that it works well under dynamic conditions of starting, acceleration and load switching. The hardware setup of the proposed work is developed using the TMS320F2812 DSP processor. Simulation and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed work for electric vehicle application.

Abstract:This paper describes Freescale company’s DSP device MC56F8013 implementation of a control method for sensorless BLDC motor, which is according to fuzzy neural network. The inductance of stator core varies according to the variation of rotor position, and the rotor position can be estimated with the variation of current response caused by six direction voltage vectors. Then use fuzzy neural network PI control method to optimize the dynamic performance, accelerate the rotor to a certain speed, and switch to EMF mode. The experiment results show that the proposed method can have fast response, strong robustness and superior performances.

Abstract:The objective of this paper is to present a comparative and quantitative study on three hall effect sensorless circuit configurations in permanent magnet (PM) brushless dc motor drives, along with four practical pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques. PM brushless direct current (BLDC) motor mathematical model, principles of operation, measurement circuit and logic configurations for three back electromotive force (EMF) zero crossing detection methods, as well as theoretical analysis on various PWM patterns are described. Their performance evaluation on waveform quality, rotor position tracking capability, and torque ripple impact are quantified as functions of motor speed and load variation. Digital time domain simulation models are established with the closed current and speed loops for the evaluation. Experimental results without using any hall effect sensors fully validate the theoretical and simulation findings.

Abstract:This paper is mainly about sensorless brushless DC motor (BLDCM) controlling system based on MRAC method, which substitutes the traditional controlling system, the problem of hall tracking err when running at low speed is solved. In addition, a new hall sample circuit is designed and analyzed. By the virtue of overcoming the disturbance of hall that causes the wrong actions of the controlling circuit, this method improves the stability and accuracy of the whole system. MRAC controlling arithmetic is applied, after the self-learning and revise process is finished, the mock hall singled can be used to replace hall sensor in the system, also experimental results is provided.

Abstract:A novel phase back electromotive force (EMF) detection method was presented for the sensorless control system of brushless dc (BLDC) motors. The true back EMF zero-crossing point can be directly extracted by detecting the voltage difference between the open phase terminal and the mid point in the dc link without sensing the motor neutral point voltage, and the rotor position information can be obtained by lagging the back EMF zero-crossing point 30 electrical degrees. The method proposed here is not sensitive to switching noise so that no filtering circuit is required. Only one of the three phase back EMF waveforms is detected and six discrete commutation signals which are necessary to perform the inverter commutation are obtained by software delay in this control system, so the detection circuit is simplified. The detailed circuit was analyzed and some experimental results obtained from the sensorless control system of BLDC motors are shown to verify the analysis and confirm the validity of the proposed method.

Abstract:Rotor position sensors are eliminated in a rotor position detection method developed for sensorless,brushless DC motor drives.This method directly extracts the true back electromotive force(EMF) zero-crossing point by detecting the voltage difference between the floating phase terminal and the midpoint in the DC link.The commutation signal of the floating phase is obtained by lagging the back EMF zero-crossing point 30°.The method provides good motor performance over a wide speed range,especially at lower speeds.Experimental results from a prototype brushless DC motor verify the analytical results and confirm the validity of the method.

This paper provides a new method to track the back electromotive force of every phase, simulation proves to gain good result and is feasiable.

Abstract:In order to design a low-cost,small-size and light-weight brushless DC motor(BLDCM) controller,the paper introduces the advantages of BLDCM and discusses related position detecting methods,compares the control methods of BLDCM with position sensors with that without position sensors,and analyzes the operation status of BLDCM controller.The paper designs a sensorless BLDCM controller based on back-EMF,and employs a double-closed-loop speed regulating system to get good dynamic performance. Besides,based on the excellent performance of MCU in interruption processing,the designed controller could achieve real-time current monitoring and fast over-current protection. The paper also designs a communication protocol,on the basis of RS232,to strengthen the communication stability between PC and motor controller and to monitor the status of speed regulating system in real time. Finally,experiment is designed and carried out to validate the proposed system.

Abstract:In this paper, the author introduces a new rotor position detecting method for the sensorless control of brushless DC motor (BLDCM). It applies a new circuit to get fundamental wave from three phase terminal voltage. A special switched capacitor filter is designed to achieve constant delay 90 electrical degrees. Since the phase lag is not related to the speed of the rotor, it needn't phase compensation. The filtered signal can be converted to six commutation signals for BLDCM just through zero-crossing comparator and decoder, so the detection circuit is simplified. The hardware-implemented system has low cost and high reliability, which is suitable for oil well detecting.
