A research on the improvement of file transfer efficiency in grid community

Abstract:Based on the file transfer service in GOS(grid operating system)Grid Community,a new FTP(file transfer protocol)was designed,and an implementation of CFTP(community file transfer protocol) was made.The newly designed protocol applies technologies such as Block Mode Transfer,Strip Mode Transfer,Transmission of Transfer Thread and Connection Multiplexing files in small blocks,distinguished from the original FTP of Applet or HPCG(high preformance computing gateway),which avoid/overcome the original protocols′ shortcomings such as inadequate support for file size and low efficiency.After the testing and tryout,the file transfer efficiency of uploading and downloading large files or large quantities of files in small blocks and third-party transfer with CFTP was improved considerably.In transferring the plain files,and the time used in transferring with CFTP has a improvement of 14.83% than transfer with HPCG and 21.7% than transfer with Applet when uploading files,and the file transfer efficiency with CFTP has a improvement of 20.2% than transfer with HPCG and 4.9% than transfer with Applet when downloading files.
