Abstract:Two new diprenylated coumaric acid isomers (1a and 1b) and two known congeners, capillartemisin A (2) and B (3), were isolated from Artemisia scoparia as bioactive markers using bioactivity-guided HPLC fractionation. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic means, including 1D and 2D NMR methods and LC-MS, with their purity assessed by 1D 1H pure shift qNMR spectroscopic analysis. The bioactivity of compounds was evaluated by enhanced accumulation of lipids, as measured using Oil Red O staining, and by increased expression of several adipocyte marker genes, including adiponectin in 3T3-L1 adipocytes relative to untreated negative controls. Compared to the plant's 80% EtOH extract, these purified compounds showed significant but still weaker inhibition of TNFα-induced lipolysis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. This suggests that additional bioactive substances are responsible for the multiple metabolically favorable effects on adipocytes observed with Artemisia scoparia extract.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.

Abstract:Investigation on the chemical constituents of Artemisia scoparia resulted in the isolation of sixteen compounds, including undescribed six pairs of diprenylated phenolic enantiomers (±)-scopacoumaricin A-F, and two pairs of cis-trans isomers cis / trans -scopacoumaricin G and cis/trans -artepillin A. Trans -artepillin A was obtained from this plant for the first time. The structures of the isolates were proposed by analysis of their 1D, 2D-NMR and HRESIMS spectroscopic data. Their absolute configurations were determined by comparison of their experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. Evaluations of the anti-inflammatory activity revealed that (−)-scopacoumaricin D, (+)-scopacoumaricin F and cis -scopacoumaricin G showed moderate anti-inflammatory activity on lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in RAW264.7 cell.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var.longipedunculata led to the isolation of 10 known sesquiterpenes,including 12-hydroxy-a-cyperone (1),1β,6a-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15)-ene (2),carainterol A (3),oplodiol (4),douglanin (5),1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al (6),3α,6α-dihydroxybisabola-4,10-diene (7),4a,5β-dihydroxybisabola-2,10-diene (8),opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol (9),and saniculamoid D (10),respectively.Their structures were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.All the isolates were obtained from A.giraldii var.longipedunculata for the first time,and five of them were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time.Additionally,the 13C NMR data of 1 were fully assigned based on the 2D NMR data for the first time.

Abstract:An HPLC-PAD-MS' method was employed to profile the phenolic compounds of the aerial part of Artemisia pectinata (Neopallasia pectinata), a plant with no previous reports concerning its phenolic constituents. Three isomers of trans-caffeoylquinic acid accompanied by cis-5-caffeoylquinic acid, six isomers of trans-dicaffeoylquinic acid, two isomers of methyl trans-dicaffeoylquinate (including one new isomer), a trans-caffeoylferuloylquinic acid and three flavanoids were identified unambiguously by analysis of their UV and MSn spectra in comparison with standard compounds that were isolated from natural sources, or synthesised, or were surrogate standards (green coffee extract). Other compounds were identified by analysis of their UV and MSn data in comparison with those reported in the literature. MSn experiments also suggested the presence of groups of dicaffeoylquinic acid glycosides, caffeoylquinic acid diglycosides, caffeoylquinic acid glycosides and quinic acid diglycosides. Abstract:Crude ethyl acetate extract of Gerbera piloselloides (L.) Cass. was investigated by dual high-resolution PTP1B/α-glucosidase inhibition profiling and LC-PDA-HRMS. This indicated the presence of a series of unprecedented prenyl- and geranyl-substituted coumarin derivatives correlated with both α-glucosidase and PTP1B inhibitory activity. Repeated chromatographic separation targeting these compounds led to the isolation of 13 new compounds, of which ten could be isolated as both enantiomers after chiral separation. The structures of all isolated compounds were characterized by HRMS and extensive 1D and 2D NMR analysis. The absolute configurations of the isolated compounds were determined by comparison of experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. Compound 6 features a rare furan-oxepane 5/7 ring system, possibly formed through addition of a geranyl unit to C-3 of 5-methylcoumarin, representing a new type of geranyl-substituted coumarin skeleton. Compounds 19 and 24 are the first examples of dimeric natural products consisting of both coumarin and chromone moieties.

Abstract:A new dimeric guaianolide (8) and a new glaucolide (3), a seco-guaiaretic acid (4), two guaianolides (6 and 7), and five known sesquiterpene lactones (1, 2, 5, 9, and 10) were isolated from the aerial part of Artemisia anomala. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analysis. In addition, their cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines and anti-COX-2 effects in vitro were evaluated.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To study the flavonoids of Artemisia anomala S. Moore. METHODS The compounds were isolated by various column chromatography, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral analysis and physical-chemical properties.RESULTS Eleven flavonoids were obtained and identified as isorhamnetin(Ⅰ), kaempferol(2), eupatorin(3), luteolin(4), apige-nin (5), quercetin (6) , cosmosiin (7), kaempferol-3-ο-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (8), luteolin-7-ο-β-D-glucopyranoside (9), quercetin-3-ο-α-L-rhamnopyranoside(10) and avicularin(11). CONCLUSION All the compounds were obtained from this plant for the first time, in addition, compound 8 and 11 were obtained from this genus for the first time.

Abstract:Three unusual sesterterpenoids featuring unprecedented rearranged colquhounane (C25) and tetranorcolquhounane (C21) frameworks, colquhounoids E (1) and F (3) and norcolquhounoid F (2), were isolated from a Lamiaceae medicinal plant Colquhounia coccinea var. mollis. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis and quantum chemical calculations. A biomimetic inspired regioselective cyclopropane cleavage was achieved under acidic conditions. The immunosuppressive activities of these new sesterterpenoids were also evaluated.

Abstract:A phytochemical reinvestigation of the aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana gave a new guaianolide and two known flavones (chrysosplenetin and 5-hydroxy-3',4',6,7-tetramethoxyflavone). Antifungal fractions derived from the chloroform extract of A. annua afforded two cadinane derivatives (arteannuin B and artemisinin), oleanolic acid, beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and the four flavones artemetin, bonanzin, eupalitin and chrysosplenetin. Their structures were elucidated by spectral methods. All isolates from the two species were tested in vitro for antifungal activity. Arteannuin B, a main sesquiterpenoid in A. annua, showed antifungal activity against one human (Candida albicans, MIC: 100 micrograms/ml) and four plant pathogenic fungi (Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici, Rhizoctonia cerealis, Gerlachia nivalis and Verticillium dahliae, MICs: 150, 100, 150 and 100 micrograms/ml, respectively) whereas others showed no antifungal activity. The MIC value of ketoconazole to C. albicans was 1.0 microgram/ml, and those of triadimefon to G. graminis var. tritici and R. cerealis 150 and 100 micrograms/ml.

Abstract:Eleven previously undescribed sesquiterpenoids (8-18), one undescribed jasmonic acid derivative (35) and 28 known compounds were isolated from the leaves of Artemisia stolonifera. Undescribed compounds with their absolute configurations were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and ECD calculation. Compound 8 was identified as a rare sesquiterpenoid featuring a rearranged 5/8 bicyclic ring system, whereas compound 17 was found to be an unprecedented monocyclic sesquiterpenoid with methyl rearrangement. Evaluation of biological activity showed that compounds 1-5 and 7 displayed cytotoxicity against six tumor cells. In the meantime, compounds 11, 12, 18 and 35 exhibited inhibitory effects against LPS-stimulated NO production in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells and reduced the transcription of IL-6 and IL-1β in a dose-dependent manner at 25, 50 and 100 μM. Moreover, the anti-inflammatory-based network pharmacology and molecular docking analyses revealed potential target proteins of 11, 12, 18 and 35.

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the chemical constituents of dried whole plants of Artemisia annua. Method: The chemical constituents were isolated by repeated silica gel chromatography, medium pressure column chromatography, and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses and comparison of NMR data with those reported in literature. Result: 15 compounds were isolated and identified to be 5-O-[(E)-Caffeoyl] quinic acid(l), 1,3-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid(2), 4 5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid(3), 3, 5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (4), 3, 4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (5), methyl-3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid(6), methyl-3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid(7), 3,6'-O-diferuloylsucrose(8), 5'-β-D-glucopyranosyloxyjasmonic acid(9), Scopoletin(10), scoparone (11), 4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-2-hydroxyl-6-methoxyacetophenone (12), chrysosplenol D (13), casticin (14), chrysosplenetin(15). Conclusion: Compounds 2, 6, 8 and 9 are obtained from the Artemisia genus for the first time. Compounds 7 and 15 are obtained from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Two new prenylated stilbenes, artochamins F (1) and G (2), and their four novel derivatives, artochamins H-K (3-6), were isolated from the stems of Artocarpus chama. Their structures were elucidated mainly by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The structure of 3 was confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigations of the methanolic extract of the fruits of Peucedanum grande C. B. Clarke (Apiaceae) led to the identification of three coumarins and a naphthyl labdanoate diarabinoside characterized as 5-hydroxy-6-isopranyl coumarin (1), 5,6-furanocoumarin (2), 7-methoxy-5,6-furanocoumarin (3), and labdanyl-3alpha-ol-18-(3'"-methoxy-2"'-naphthyl-oate)-3alpha-L-arabinofuranosyl-(2'-->1")-alpha-L-arabinofuranoside (4). The structures of these compounds were identified on the basis of spectral data analysis and chemical reactions. The methanolic extract and 4 showed nephroprotective activity against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in Wistar rats.

Abstract:One new highly oxygenated nortriterpene, named sieverlactone (1), one new sesquiterpene, 1 beta, 10 beta-epoxy-8 alpha-acetoxyachillin (2), one new natural product, 5-propinyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid (3), and one new thiophene, 3-hydroxy-5-propinyl-2-acetyl-thiophene (4), together with 10 other known compounds (5 - 14), were isolated from the dried aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric data. Meanwhile, the stereochemistry of 1 and 2 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique using Cu radiation. All the isolates were evaluated for their anti-neuroinflammatory effects on the lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in BV-2 murine microglial cells. Compounds 2, 5, and 6 exhibited the significant activities with IC50 values of 6.5 +/- 0.5, 11.9 +/- 0.7, and 10.1 +/- 0.3 mu M, respectively, comparable to the positive control, quercetin, with an IC50 value of 16.3 +/- 0.4 mu M.
