Abstract:Water-dispersed nanocrystals with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and narrow size distribution are desirable for a variety of bioapplications. In this report, we present a facile method assisted by microwave irradiation for rapidly synthesizing high-quality CdTe nanocrystals in aqueous phase. The PLQY of CdTe nanocrystals prepared in very short time (15 min) reaches as high as 82%, and the fwhm value is merely 27 nm meanwhile. Moreover, the PLQY is increased to a remarkable 98% after further amelioration through the illumination method. The key synthesis parameters (molar ratio of reagents, pH values, reaction temperature, and time) are fully discussed, and the optimum conditions are illuminated in this paper. In addition, the mechanism about microwave irradiation improving the quality of nanocrystals is discussed as well.

Abstract:A novel method, the program process of microwave irradiation (PPMI), which commendably integrates good qualities of microwave irradiation and a programmed heating process, is presented to synthesize high-quality CdTe nanocrystals in aqueous solution. Microwave irradiation, which acts as the heating mode of PPMI, is highly favorable for a narrow size distribution and low concentration of surface defects of nanocrystals. On the other hand, two correlative processes ( the first process and the second process) are utilized in PPMI to actualize the programmed heating process, which is an effective strategy to improve the quality of nanocrystals. Thus, a series (diameters similar to 2-4 nm) of highly luminescent (PLQY similar to 30-68%) CdTe nanocrystals were rapidly prepared ( reaction time similar to 1-30 min) in aqueous phase through PPMI.

Abstract:By using a novel procedure, a new kind of water-soluble CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) is synthesized in aqueous solutions at the temperature of 100 degrees C. In this procedure, tripeptide thiol glutathione was used as stabilizing agent, CdTe NCs with controllable photoluminescence wavelength from 500 nm to 680 nm were prepared within two hours. Compared with CdTe NCs prepared with thiohydracrylic acid as stabilizing agent, as-prepared NCs show much narrower photoluminescence FWHM, more symmetrical emission peak and higher photoluminescence quantum yield. The surface structure of as-prepared CdTe NCs is deduced, therefore, there may be some unreported circular structure on the surface. Experimental results show that as-prepared NCs have very good biological compatibility and they are nontoxic. And these CdTe NCs can conjugate with biological molecules for further biological luminescence study. The proposed hydrothermal synthesis procedure has the advantage of simplicity, inexpensiveness, time saving and mild operating conditions.
Microwave-Assisted Growth And Characterization Of Water-Dispersed Cdte/Cds Core-Shell Nanocrystals With High Photoluminescence

Abstract:A novel microwave-assisted method of growth of high-quality CdTe/CdS core-shell nanocrystals in the aqueous phase is presented in this paper. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is greatly enhanced by epitaxial growth of the CdS shell. Under optimum conditions, the PLQY of as-prepared nanocrystals reaches as high as 75% without any post-treatment. Furthermore, these investigations demonstrate that microwave irradiation is tremendously useful for fast epitaxial growth of nanocrystals due to its special characteristics. As a result, the microwave synthesis is sufficiently time-economizing (only five minutes are required) to obtain optimum amounts of CdTe/CdS core-shell nanocrystals in comparison to the conventional illumination method (several days are required). Therefore, this current research not only provides a rapid microwave synthesis for producing highly fluorescent CdTe/CdS core-shell nanocrystals, but also it presents some advantages of the microwave synthesis in comparison to the illumination method.

Abstract:In this paper, we presented a seed-mediated approach for rapid synthesis of high quality alloyed quantum dots (CdSe–CdS) in aqueous phase by microwave irradiation with controllable temperature in 1h. In the synthesis, CdSe seeds were first formed by the reaction of NaHSe and Cd2+, and then alloyed quantum dots (CdSe–CdS) were rapidly produced by releasing of sulfide ions from 3-mercaptopropionic acid as sulfide source with microwave irradiation. The alloyed quantum dots synthesized had good optical properties, the quantum yield was up to 25%, and the full width at half maximum of the emission spectrum peak was about 28nm. The as-prepared alloyed CdSe–CdS QDs were characterized by XRD, XPS and ICP-AES in order to explore the structure and component of the alloyed nanocrystals and the reaction mechanism. We speculate that the alloyed CdSe–CdS quantum dots may exist a gradient internal structure according to our preliminary results.

Abstract:An easy and fast microwave-assisted method of tuning the photoluminescence properties of CdTe nanocrystals in aqueous phase is presented. The photoluminescence could be tuned covering almost the whole visual spectral range (537-680 nm), and even partially extending to the near-infrared spectral range. The effect is probably related to the formation of core/shell structure and complex nano-assemblies. These results provide a promising means of tuning the photoluminescence of CdTe nanocrystals, leading to potential applications in biomedical labeling, solar cells, lasers, and other fields.
Microwave-Assisted Aqueous Synthesis: A Rapid Approach to Prepare Highly Luminescent Znse(S) Alloyed Quantum Dots

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new procedure for the rapid synthesis of luminescent ZnSe nanocrystals in aqueous phase by microwave irradiation with controllable temperature. The effects of microwave irradiation and experimental conditions on the synthesis of nanocrystals were investigated systematically. It was found that there were significant effects of pH value of reaction solutions, molar ratio of precursors, and heating time of microwave irradiation on the optical properties of the ZnSe nanocrystals. A series of nanocrystals with different size was prepared in 1 h, and the photoluminescence quantum yield reached up to 17% at the optimal reaction condition. The results of HRTEM and XRD showed that the as-prepared nanocrystals had high crystallinity. The characterizations of EDS spectra and elemental analysis showed that the sulfur content of nanocrystals increased with the growth of nanocrystals. We speculated that the structure of nanocrystals was an alloy ZnSe(S) shell on the surface of the ZnSe particles core. Furthermore, we found that the oxygen from air in the reaction vessel played an important role in the decomposition of the thiol group under microwave irradiation.

Abstract:CdHgTe nanocrystal was successfully synthesized by microwave irradiation.Through this method,not only reaction time is greatly reduced,but also its quantum yield is enhanced to a large extent.In addition,CdHgTe is used as fluorescent probe for copper ion,and the results indicate that CdHgTe shows high sensitivity to Cu~(2+).

Abstract:This paper mainly refers to the controllable synthesis and characterization of CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) using TGA (Mercaptoacetic acid) in aqueous system. Through XRD, TEM, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and PL spectrum, we characterize the structure, morphology and optical spectra of the sample, and also analyze the factors including Cd/Te ratio, the pH value of the initial solution, water bath reflux time, solution concentration, etc. The results show that the higher Cd/Te ratio, the smaller and uniformer size of CdTe NCs. As the pH value of the solution increases, the growth of the CdTe NCs becomes faster and the average particle size is larger. The growth rate of NCs is fast in the early stage and then slows down after 1 h. The higher temperature of the water bath reflux, the faster nucleation and growth rate of CdTe NCs.
Rapid Aqueous Synthesis of High-quality CdTe Colloidal Quantum Dots

Abstract:The rapid aqueous synthesis of CdTe quantum dots modified by thioglycolic acid(TGA) was studied through investigating and improving the factors which influence the synthesis. The control of photoluminescence properties was realized through systematically changing the volume of anhydrous ethanol and water, the temperature and the original pH value. The high-quality CdTe QDs with narrower full width at half maximum of photoluminescence spectra and larger quantum yield were obtained. Under the optimal condition (as the volume of anhydrous ethanol and water is 3 and 1 mL, original pH value is 8.0, the temperature is 40 degrees C), the maximum quantum yield at room temperature is approximately 68%. A white precipitate emerged during reflux. After depositing for a week, the fluorescence intensity of the QDs with white precipitate was dramatically enhanced by 15% than that of the QDs which the white precipitate was removed. Besides, the white precipitate is preferable for the narrowing of the size distribution.

Abstract:One chemical reagent, hydrazine hydrate, was discovered to accelerate the growth of semiconductor nanocrystals (cadmium telluride) instead of additional energy, which was applied to the synthesis of high-quality CdTe nanocrystals at room temperature and ambient conditions within several hours. Under this mild condition the mercapto stabilizers were not destroyed, and they guaranteed CdTe nanocrystal particle sizes with narrow and uniform distribution over the largest possible range. The CdTe nanocrystals (photoluminescence emission range of 530-660 nm) synthesized in this way had very good spectral properties; for instance, they showed high photoluminescence quantum yield of up to 60%. Furthermore, we have succeeded in detecting the living Borrelia burgdorferi of Lyme disease by its photoluminescence image using CdTe nanocrystals.

Abstract:The highly fluorescent CdTe quantum dots(QDs)have been synthesized by using thioglycolic acid(TGA) as a stabilizer and a new procedure of the introduction of Te source in aqueous solution.CdTe nanocrystals(NCs) have a tunable fluorescence emission wavelength range from 510 nm to 620 nm.Their narrowest full width at half maximum(FWHM) of about 34 nm,and the maximum quantum yield(QYs) of 60%.These CdTe nanocrystals were characterized by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy,X-ray powder diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray and FT-IR spectroscopy.The effects of starting pH and the molar ratio of TGA/Cd2+ on the synthesis of CdTe QDs were investigated.The experimental results indicate that starting pH plays an important role in improving optical properties and controlling the growth rate of CdTe nanocrystals.The possible growth mechanism of CdTe nanocrystals at various pH was discussed.A new modified LSW model of particles growth was proposed.

Abstract:CdS nanotubes were synthesized via a new method, which employed TM01-type microwave irradiation as a template. The reactions were completed in aqueous solution at room temperature. The products were investigated with X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The formation mechanism of CdS nanotubes with a face centered cubic structure is proposed.

Abstract:It is commonly observed that the "traditional'' aqueous solution route to prepare CdTe nanocrystals (NCs) using thiol ligands as capping reagents is usually very time-consuming and the luminescent properties are poor in the deep red to near infrared (NIR) emission window. Herein, we present an ultrafast and facile aqueous phase route under atmospheric pressure to prepare high-quality green-to NIR-emitting CdTe NCs with mercaptopropionic acid as capping reagent. In contrast to previous reports, red-to NIR-emitting CdTe NCs with emission efficiency up to 50% can be obtained within 1 h reflux time under the optimized experimental conditions. The growth rate is about 100 times faster than those reported previously. The influences of various experimental variables, including Te-to-Cd ratio, ligand-to-Cd ratio, pH value as well as the precursor concentration, on the growth rate and luminescent properties of the obtained CdTe NCs have been systematically investigated. Experimental results indicate that the combination of high pH value and low Te-to-Cd molar ratio plays a crucial role in determining the fast growth rate and the high-quality optical properties of the obtained CdTe NCs. The mechanism for the fast growth rate and the resulting high-quality optical properties is also elucidated.

Abstract:A novel aqueous route for the synthesis of high-quality CdTe nanocrystals(NCs) is presented in this article. With both glutathione(GSH) and cysteine[n(GSH):n(cysteine)=1:3] as stabilizers, high-quality CdTe NCs with controllable photoluminescence(PL) wavelength from 500 to 630 nm can be prepared within 4 h. As-prepared CdTe NCs show higher photoluminescence quantum yields(PLQY) compared with CdTe NCs prepared via other aqueous methods. When the fluorescent emission peak appeared in orange-red window, the PLQY reaches 70% or above at room temperature without any post-preparative treatment.

Abstract:Surface passivation of nanocrystals with suitable organic or inorganic materials is key to improving the photoluminescence (PL) efficiency and stability of nanocrystals. Although the hot-injection organometallic approach is a powerful tool to achieve different kinds of core/shell structures, direct synthesis of such structures in aqueous phase, which bears many advantages such as biocompatibility, water-solubility, environment-friendliness, and cheapness, is less often reported. Herein we present a facile approach for the one-pot preparation of a water-soluble core/shell structure with CdTe cores packed in a CdS shell in aqueous phase. In comparison with plain CdTe nanocrystals, the PL efficiency of the obtained CdTe/CdS core/shell structure can approach about 75%. The stability of the core/shell structure to UV irradiation and oxidation is also improved.

Abstract:Here we present a facile one-pot method to prepare high-quality CdTe nanocrystals in aqueous phase. In contrast to the use of oxygen-sensitive NaHTe or H(2)Te as Te source in the current synthetic methods, we employ more stable sodium tellurite as the Te source for preparing highly luminescent CdTe nanocrystals in aqueous solution. By selecting mercaptosuccinic acid (MSA) as capping agent and providing the borate-citrate acid buffering solution, CdTe nanocrystals with high quantum yield (QY >70% at pH range 5.0-8.0) can be conveniently prepared by this method. The influence of parameters such as the pH value of the precursor solution and the molar ratio of Cd(2+) to Na(2)TeO(3) on the QY of CdTe nanocrystals was systematically investigated in our experiments. Under optimal conditions, the QY of CdTe nanocrystals is even high up to 83%. The biological application of luminescent MSA-CdTe to HEK 293 cell imaging was also illustrated.

Abstract:A facile green approach has been developed to control the growth regime in the aqueous synthesis of CdTe semiconductor Quantum dots (QDs) via the electrochemistry method. The Low growth temperature and slow injection of Te precursors are used to prolong the diffusion controlled stage and thus suppress Ostwald ripening during nanocrystal growth. The experimental results showed that a low concentration of Te precursor would definitely influence the growth procedure. The narrow absorption peaks in the UV-visible absorption spectra, as well as transmission electron microscopy images indicated that the as-prepared CdTe QDs had a good monodispersity. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern suggested that the as-prepared QDs have high crystallinity and cubic structure. The QDs exhibited high fluorescence QYs about 50% and the best of QY 67% without any postpreparative treatment over a broad spectral range of 516-609 nm, which could be further broadened by long-term refluxing. The current work suggested that electrochemical method was an attractive approach to the synthesis of high-quality II-VI semiconductor QDs at a large scale.
