The Evolution and Direction of Community Governance in China's Danwei Community:A Case Study of Maofangnan Community,Beijing

Abstract:The social governance is confronted with new challenges while urban China's transition is proceeding.As the groundwork for urban governance,community governance has become a hot issue for recent researches in China.However,Danwei community's governance structure shows a different path of evolution affected by the residual factors of Danwei system.Based on a case study of the evolution of a Danwei community's governance,there show several characteristics in the process: the trend of governing pluralization;the tortuous path for Danwei organization's exit;the emergence of vacancy in governance structure associated with the deterioration of community environment.This research concludes that,external catalyst should be given to these deteriorating Danwei communities that can't change the situation by themselves.By transforming some resources owned by Danwei to the community resources,which can provide the foundation for the community's sustainable development,and introducing or fostering governance subjects,Danwei organization and the city government can work together to help the Danwei community build a stable and multiplex governance structure,which can benefit the community's regeneration.
