Abstract:In the 1946 land reform of the old revolutionary base areas, the destiny of the middle-peasant class is eye-catching. Being powerful in population and land possession, this class turned to be what the Communist Party of China kept as one to be won-over in the land reform policy, but in reality was reduced to a very unfavorable situation. This inconsistency was due not only to the objectives of the land reform and the Party's class policy, but also to the social reality of the time. The idealised land reform project and the deplorable societal condition in the countryside led the middle-peasants to an awkward position that they had to find themselves in, and their destiny is indeed a mirror of the gain and loss of that land reform.
