The curative effect's analysis of the incision improvement of microvasular decompression for hemifacial Spasm

Abstract:Objective To investigate the significance of the modified retrosigmoid approach to reduce the complications of microvascular decomp ression(MVD) for hemifacial spasm(HFS).Methods Totally 723 cases of HFS underwent MVD in our hospital from January 2004 to April 2011.Among the cases,518 patients were treated with traditional retrosigmoid approach before August 2009,otherwise 205 patients were treated with modified retrosigmoid approach after Auguse 2009.To compare the differences of the two different sugical complication rate,and do statistical analysis.Results 518 cases treated with traditional retrosigmoid approach before August 2009,in which there were 10 cases of cerebrospinal fluid leak.The incidence of the cerebrospinal fluid leak was 0.02%.Othewise,there was no one case of cerebrospinal leak in the modified group.The modified group had low complication rate,and the two surgical complication rates were statistically different(P<0.05).Conclusion For the patients of the microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm,the implementation of modified retrosigmoid approach can reduce the incidence of the complications.
