Abstract:Let R be a ring. A left R-module M (respectively right R-module N) is called FI-injective (respectively FI-flat) if Ext1(G,M)=0 (respectively Tor1(N,G)=0) for any FP-injective left R-module G. Suppose R is a left coherent ring. It is shown that a left R-module M is FI-injective if and only if M is a direct sum of an injective left R-module and a reduced FI-injective left R-module; a finitely presented right R-module M is FI-flat if and only if M is a cokernel of a flat preenvelope of a right R-module. These modules together with the left derived functors of Hom are used to study the FP-injective dimensions of modules and rings.

Abstract:Let R be a ring, n a fixed nonnegative integer and In (Fn) the class of all left (right) R-modules of injective (flat) dimension at most n. A left R-module M (resp., right R-module F) is called n-copure injective (resp., n-copure flat) if Ext1(N,M)=0 (resp., Tor1(F,N)=0) for any N∈In. It is shown that a left R-module M over any ring R is n-copure injective if and only if M is a kernel of an In-precover f:A→B of a left R-module B with A injective. For a left coherent ring R, it is proven that every right R-module has an Fn-preenvelope, and a finitely presented right R-module M is n-copure flat if and only if M is a cokernel of an Fn-preenvelope K→F of a right R-module K with F flat. These classes of modules are also used to construct cotorsion theories and to characterize the global dimension of a ring under suitable conditions.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a regular $F$-finite ring of prime characteristic $p$. We prove that the injective dimension of every unit Frobenius module $M$ in the category of unit Frobenius modules is at most $\operatorname{dim}(\operatorname{Supp}_R(M))+1$. We further show that for unit Cartier modules the same bound holds over any noetherian $F$-finite ring $A$ of prime characteristic $p$. This shows that $\dim A+1$ is a uniform upper bound for the injective dimension of any unit Cartier module over a noetherian $F$-finite ring $A$.

Abstract:Let R be a ring, n a fixed non-negative integer and FIn (F-n) the class of all right (left) R-modules of FP-injective (flat) dimension at most n. We prove that (FIn, FIn perpendicular to) is a perfect cotorsion theory if R is a right coherent ring with FP-id (R-R) <= n. This result was proven by Aldrich, Enochs, Jenda, and Oyonarte in Noetherian case. The modules in F-n(perpendicular to) are also studied. Some applications are given.

Abstract:The small finitistic dimension $\fPD(R)$ of a ring $R$ is defined to be the supremum of projective dimensions of $R$-modules with finite projective resolutions. In this paper, we investigate the small finitistic dimensions of four types of ring constructions: polynomial rings, formal power series rings, trivial extensions and amalgamations. Besides, we show the small finitistic dimensions of a ring is less than or equal to its Krull dimension. We also give a total ring of quotients with infinite small finitistic dimension.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative ring with identity, and let S be a multiplicative subset of R. Positselski and Slávik introduced the concepts of S-strongly flat modules and S-weakly cotorsion R-modules, and they showed that these concepts are useful in describing flat modules and Enochs cotorsion modules over commutative rings (see the discussion in [13, Section 1.1]). In this paper, we introduce a homological dimension, called the S-strongly flat dimension, for modules and rings. These dimensions measure how far away a module M is from being S-strongly flat and how far a ring R is from being S-almost semisimple. The relations between the S-strongly flat dimension and other dimensions are discussed.

Abstract:For a ring $A$, we consider the question whether every bounded above cochain complex of injective $A$-modules which is acyclic is null-homotopic. We show that if $A$ is left and right noetherian and has a dualizing complex, then this implies that the finitistic dimension of $A$ is finite. In the appendix, Nakamura and Thompson show that the opposite holds over any ring. Our results give several new necessary and sufficient conditions for a ring to have finite finitistic dimension in a very general setting. Applications include a generalization of a recent result of Rickard about relations between unbounded derived categories and finitistic dimension, as well as several new characterizations of noetherian rings which satisfy the Gorenstein symmetry conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper we study the finitistic dimensions of commutative noetherian non-positive DG-rings with finite amplitude. We prove that any DG-module $M$ of finite flat dimension over such a DG-ring satisfies $\mathrm{projdim}_A(M) \leq \mathrm{dim}(\mathrm{H}^0 (A)) - \inf(M)$. We further provide explicit constructions of DG-modules with prescribed projective dimension and deduce that the big finitistic projective dimension satisfies the bounds $\mathrm{dim}(\mathrm{H}^0 (A)) - \mathrm{amp}(A) \leq \mathsf{FPD}(A) \leq \mathrm{dim}(\mathrm{H}^0(A))$. Moreover, we prove that DG-rings exist which achieve either bound. As a direct application, we prove new vanishing results for the derived Hochschild (co)homology of homologically smooth algebras.

Abstract:Let m and n be fixed positive integers and M a right R-module. Recall that M is said to be (m,n)-injective if Ext(R)(1) (P,M) = 0 for any (m,n)-presented right R-module P; M is called (m,n)-flat at if Tor(1)(R) (M,Q) = 0 for any (m,n)-presented left R-module Q. In this article, M is defined to be (m,n)-projective (resp. (m,n)-cotorsion) if Ext(R)(1) (M,N) = 0 (resp. Ext(R)(1) (N,M) = 0) for any (m,n)-injective (resp. (m,n)-flat) right R-module N. These concepts are used to characterize von Neumann regular rings and (m,n)-coherent rings. Some known results are extended.

Abstract:In this paper, the concept of iso-DICC modules is introduced and extensively investigated. These modules are the generalization of DICC, iso-Noetherian and iso-Artinian modules. We prove that any direct sum of a projective iso-simple and an iso-DICC module is iso-DICC. Unlike DICC rings, we show that iso-DICC rings don't have finite Goldie dimension, but if R is a semiprime right iso-DICC ring and I is an annihilator ideal of R , then either I or RI has finite Goldie dimension. Furthermore, we investigate the Krull dimension of iso-Noetherian modules and we give an answer to an open problem on this topic. Finally, we generalize some results on semiprime right iso-Artinian rings to a certain class of iso-Artinian modules. We provide sufficient conditions for iso-Artinian modules to have finite Goldie dimension. Also, we show that any semiprime FQS iso-Artinian module, is non- M -singular.

Some relations between #-injective (pre)envelopes of a complex X and injective (pre)envelopes of the R-modules Xi are also given. Finally, we study the [Formula: see text]-dimensions of complexes, where [Formula: see text] is the class of #-injective complexes.

Abstract:We show that the small and large restricted injective dimensions coincide for Cohen-Macaulay rings of finite Krull dimension. Based on this, and inspired by the recent work of Sather-Wagstaff and Totushek, we suggest a new definition of Cohen-Macaulay Hom injective dimension. We show that the class of Cohen-Macaulay Hom injective modules is the right constituent of a perfect cotorsion pair. Our approach relies on tilting theory, and in particular, on the explicit construction of the tilting module inducing the minimal tilting class recently obtained in (Hrbek et al. 2022).

Abstract:It is well known that the right global dimension of a ring R is usually computed by the right derived functors of Hom and the left projective resolutions of right R -modules. In this paper, for a left coherent and right perfect ring R , we characterize the right global dimension of R , from another point of view, using the left derived functors of Hom and the right projective resolutions of right R -modules. It is shown that rD ( R ) ⩽ n ( n ⩾ 2) if and only if the gl right Proj -dim M R ⩽ n −2 if and only if Ext n −1 ( N,M ) = 0 for all right R -modules N and M if and only if every ( n −2)th Proj cosyzygy of a right R -module has a projective envelope with the unique mapping property. It is also proved that rD ( R ) ⩽ n ( n ⩾ 1) if and only if every ( n −1)th Proj -cosyzygy of a right R -module has an epic projective envelope if and only if every n th Proj -cosyzygy of a right R -module is projective. As corollaries, the right hereditary rings and the rings R with rD ( R ) ⩽ 2 are characterized.
