Refutation of the "reactionary Feature" of the Land System of the Heavenly Dynasty

Abstract:Whether The Land System of the Heavenly Dynasty is progressive or is the key issue in the judgment of Taiping Revolution's nature.During the Middle and late 19th century when the Taiping Revolution took place,throughout the world,equitable distribution of land as an important economic policy would not possibly lead to the self-sufficient natural economy but would actually play a positive role as a social economic policy of capitalist revolution.Therefore,the idea of the reactionary feature of The Land System failed to cover the historical contents of The Land System.During the period of Taiping Revolution,China was still a society of traditional agriculture and land was the major focus of social economy at that time.The Land System,initiating the idea of equitable distribution of land based on the equilibrium principle,should not be considered to be reactionary.On the contrary,it was progressive and fit for the social current of that time.The failure of The Land System was actually attributed to the fact that the Taiping revolutionists could not realize the equality and justice principle which they preached and that the Taiping leaders diverted their efforts to inner struggle for power.
