Abstract:In this article methods of documentation and logical analysis were used and the change of PE teachers′ role under new curriculum philosophies was discussed. In the course of implementing the new course, the authors think that P.E teachers should play the role as a director and promoter in the course of study, a designer and organizer of study activities, a designer of the students′ future life, a developer of teaching resources, "society type","community type" sports teacher, etc. Which can provide reference for PE teachers quickly adjust to new curriculum.

Abstract:Background: Among the many changes occurring across Chinese society in the early years of the 21st century has been the construction and implementation of a new national curriculum which includes physical education (PE) as one of the main subject areas. Unlike the old PE curriculum with its sports performance-oriented criteria, the new curriculum puts the emphasis upon health and fitness, which is reflected in the change of name from ‘physical education’ to ‘physical education and health’ (HPE). The concept of the new HPE curriculum challenges many aspects of traditional PE theory and practices, and requires PE teachers to change their professional perspectives and pedagogic approaches. As a result, the curriculum reform progresses with difficulty. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate how PE teachers understand, interpret, perceive and respond to the curriculum reform and to identify some key blockers that might prevent PE teachers from actively implementing the new HPE curriculum. Participants: Eighteen primary and secondary school PE teachers participated in the study. They were all full-time teachers with at least ten years' teaching experience. Participants were chosen with a view to establishing a degree of gender balance and providing a diversity of school contexts spanning the different socio-economic strata that exist across the area of China in which the research was conducted. Research design: The research was conducted using a qualitative, case-study research framework. Eighteen practicing PE teachers in a coastal city in the Northeast of China were interviewed. This is one of the designated experimental zones for Chinese curriculum reform. Data collection: Data collection included analysis of government educational reform policies and other curriculum reform documents, as well as a review of the relevant academic literature. Informal talks were held with PE teachers and a series of semi-structured interviews were conducted with the participants. All interviews were audio-taped with the consent of the informants and each interview took approximately 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the interest of the participants and the natural pace with which the interview moved. Data analysis: The key issues and themes were identified from the interview data through a process of coding. The themes emerged from a search for regularities, recurring ideas, experiences and thoughts mentioned and shared by groups of participants. Findings: All eighteen PE teachers expressed their support for the fundamental goal of putting more emphasis upon health promotion in the new HPE curriculum. It is fair to say that the interviewed teachers, viewed as a group, overwhelmingly endorsed the broad direction of the new HPE curriculum. However, the data reveals a number of structural, personal and cultural factors that might prevent PE teachers from actively implementing the new HPE curriculum.

Abstract:Based on the methods of literature,interview and logic analysis,this paper studies the notion of traditional physical education mode and analyzes its deficiencies and development.In addition,it also states that the new teaching mode should attach importance to not only the imparting of knowledge,but also to the cultivating of non-intelligential factors.Teachers’ evaluation should be combined with students’ evaluation and diagnostic evaluation should be combined with formative evaluation and conclusive evaluation.We should stress both students’ subjectivity and teachers’ guiding function.Teachers should renew their knowledge constantly and try to attract students with their notable spiritual appearance and their characteristics.They should make use of science and technology properly,take in others’ advantages to make up for their own deficiencies,learn from each other and integrate with each other.

Abstract:According to questionnaires and interviews with experts,we probe and analyze the present situation of people's understanding about students' role as subject in teaching of P.E.with new ideas.We learn that students' understanding about new Schema of Curriculum and their aim in study is very superficial and vague.In addition,students' development is restricted by the space and equipment,teaching environment,evaluation of curriculum,and system of selecting courses.However,the teaching model of "Three Independences" in the new schema begins with students' independent study,demanding developing student's activeness,initiative,independence.And creativity to the full.Its teaching effect and the understanding about students' role as subject are better than that of the traditional one.It puts forward that we should expand P.E.teachers' continued education and improve the management and equipment.It also poses to establish a model of studying P.E.theory on line that will satisfy students' need,as well as to realize the proposition of(making) the evaluation subject become many faceted.

Abstract:Based on the “Compulsory Education Physical Education and Health Curriculum Standards” and the “General High School Physical Education and Health Curriculum Standards”, a thorough analysis was conducted on the history of physical education in China, the principles and framework of the HPE curriculum model, and previous implementation strategies. The article elucidates the theoretical foundations of physical education, such as sports education theory and constructivist learning, as well as evaluation and assessment techniques. It concludes with the significance of technology integration, community partnerships, and teacher training in the current HPE curriculum, offering strategies and recommendations for educators and policymakers to effectively implement the HPE curriculum.

Abstract:By the end of 2021, the proportion of people participating in normalized physical exercise in China has reached up to 37.2%, contributing to the transformation of competitive sports into national sports. This has significantly affected the teaching quality of physical education in primary and secondary schools. In the critical period of the “14th Five-Year Plan” construction, it is necessary to deepen the physical education work in primary and secondary schools concertedly with high-quality development goals. Taking this as the starting point, the paper outlines the basic content and main influence of national sports as well as analyzes the new demands of physical education in primary and secondary schools under the background of national sports. On this basis, several targeted teaching strategies are put forward from three aspects: teaching concept, information technology, and teaching goals.

Abstract:This research primarily aimed to examine the compatibility of teaching perspectives of teachers with the Physical Education (PE) curriculum in China. The Teaching Perspective Inventory (Pratt, 1998) was used to collect data from 272 PE teachers. Descriptive statistics, MANOVAs, and correlational procedures were used for quantitative data analysis. Results indicated that PE teachers had a common pattern of a single dominant teaching perspective. Student personal growth was addressed but less attention was given to changes in society and learners’ thinking. The findings suggest that the teachers’ perspectives may be incompatible with the focus of the current Chinese PE curriculum. Furthermore, the significant correlations among the teaching perspectives reflect the interdependence of these viewpoints. As a result, teachers’ perspectives on teaching need to be considered thoroughly when PE reformers attempt to modify the curricula. Finally, gender, years of teaching experience, and teaching level were the factors associated with the variation in teaching perspectives. However, academic degree and sampling methods (convenient sampling and random sampling) were not.

Abstract:The authors think that there exists difficulty to understand and implement the professionalization of contemporary P.E.teachers in middle schools after a questionnaire covering 150 P.E.teachers in 15 middle schools located in 5 districts in Shanghai.The difficulty is manifested by the phenomenon that though the public are in a hot pursuit to take PE as their major,most of them lack the ability.The P.E.majors are unaware of the utmost goal of the major,unqualified for scientific researches.Besides,the prospect for the major is bleak.That's why we'd like to put forward the proposal to encourage the development of the P.E.majors in an all-round way,lay out a major development plan suitable for personal potentials and requirements,"learn to be a smart-learner",enhance cooperation and establish "the system of collaborative learning process".Thus,we can play an active role in promoting the reform on P.E.major courses in the institutions of higher learning.

Abstract:Purpose: The introduction of the "Opinions on Comprehensively Deepening Curriculum Reform and Implementing the Fundamental Task of Establishing Virtues and Cultivating People" marked the initiation of comprehensive curriculum reform across all disciplines in our country, with a particular emphasis on key competencies. Among these competencies, those integral to the Physical Education (PE) curriculum have garnered increasing attention from scholars. Building upon this foundation, this paper systematically reviews and analyzes pertinent research on the key competencies within the PE curriculum. The exploration covers the development process, current research hotspots, and future prospects in this field, aiming to serve as a reference for future research on key competencies within the PE curriculum in our country. Methods: Employing CNKI as the database, the search keywords included "key competencies of PE curriculum," "key competencies of PE and health," "key competencies of students' PE," and "key competencies of PE teachers." Literature sources were sourced from SCI, SSCI, and the Peking University Core. A total of 130 relevant literatures were identified and subsequently analyzed using CiteSpace software. Results: The key competencies of PE curriculum have experienced three stages of development. The two research peaks are in 2018 and 2022, which’s closely related to Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards for PE and Health(2022) and High School Curriculum Standards for PE and Health(2017) in recent years. The promulgation of physical education (PE) curriculum standards in basic education not only provides a guiding framework for schools in the future but also serves as a crucial foundation for scholars to conduct in-depth research. The exploration of key competencies within the PE curriculum encompasses various aspects, including its fundamental meaning, constituent elements, training mechanisms, evaluation systems, developmental challenges, and practical approaches. Given that the key competencies of the PE curriculum are still in the early stages of development, they draw inspiration from the commendable experiences of foreign PE curricula. Furthermore, the assessment and training mechanisms and systems for these key competencies remain imperfect, and empirical research in this domain is still insufficient. Conclusion: It remains essential to explore the theoretical foundations of key competencies within the PE curriculum from diverse perspectives to ensure their firm establishment. Simultaneously, there is a commitment to prioritize the development of key competencies among PE teachers. Innovative approaches, such as cultivating models and evaluation systems for key competencies tailored to students at different levels or for PE teachers, will be implemented to facilitate further empirical research. This effort aims to genuinely achieve the vision of creating "sports-oriented individuals" and collectively build a promising future for school physical education.

Abstract:The advent of the knowledge economy necessitates a transformation in educational paradigms, especially in primary education. This paper examines the recent shift in physical education (PE) within elementary schools, emphasizing a holistic and student-centered approach aligned with the principles of the knowledge economy. It scrutinizes the current landscape of PE evaluation in three primary schools in Longshan County, using surveys of 20 teachers and 300 students, exploring practices, challenges, and perceptions of multiple assessment methodologies. The study finds that contemporary curriculum reforms advocate a departure from traditional, singular academic evaluations. Instead, they emphasize multifaceted assessments incorporating physical fitness, sportsmanship, and attitudes toward healthy living. This shift reflects a broader educational trend prioritizing comprehensive student development over academic achievement. It underscores the integration of diverse evaluations in PE curricula as essential for capturing the multifarious aspects of student growth in line with a more nuanced, knowledge-driven educational context. Through this investigation, the paper contributes significantly to the dialogue in educational strategies within the knowledge economy, highlighting the importance of dynamic, adaptable evaluation systems. These findings underscore the necessity for educational reforms that respond to the evolving demands of society, advocating for policies and practices that foster both theoretical and practical advancements in the realm of PE in primary education.
