Abstract:In this research the atomic absorption spectroscopy method (the correlation coefficient was 0.9995) was employed for determination of the content of heavy metal-manganese in panax pseudo-ginseng var. notoginseng, which was chosen as the sample. The optimum conditions of two pretreatments were researched independently. In the dry ashing, the optimized temperature and time are 600°C and 4~6 hours respectively, and the manganese content determined is 53.16 ug/g and the recovery rate of manganese added in sample is 98.64%. In the wet digestion, The HNO3-H2O2 digestion system is the best one, and the content was 52.95ug/g and the recovery rate is 97.30%. So the two pretreatment methods of the sample are accurate enough on manganese content determination. But the dry ashing is better than the wet digestion relatively.

Abstract:Soybean coat samples were digested by H2O2-HNO3 solution after semi-ashing in a closed microwave system and the determination of iron,nickel,magnesium,calcium zinc and copper in soybean coat has been performed by MPT-AES.Experimenta1 conditions were optimized and established.The effects of acid concentration and coexisting ions(K,Na,Fe,Ni,Al,Zn,M g,Ca)on determination of iron,nickel,magnesium,calcium zinc and copper were investigated.The results showed that the detection limits of iron,nickel,magnesium,calcium,zinc and copper were 22.94,7.55,0.36,0.92,16.27 and 2.1 ng·mL-1,respectively.The RSD was no more than 3.2%,it showed the adopted method had good precision.The linear ranges of iron,nickel,magnesium,calcium,zinc and copper were 0-12,0-12,0-35,0-32,0-7 and 0-12 μg·mL-1,respectively.The recoveries were 96.8%-101.3%,98.4%-103.7%,95.9%-99.6%,96.3%-103.5%,99.8%-103.5% and 97.6%-105.3%,respectively.Compared with conventional test methods,MPT combined with half ash and microwave digestion samples was efficient with high accuracy and repeatability and applicable to sample analysis.

Abstract:Objective:To establish and validate the microwave digestion-atomic absorption spectrophotometric method for determination of chromium content in the gelatin empty capsules.Method:Microwave digestion system was applied to deteriorate samples,and the Cr content was determined by Usegraphite fumace AAS method.Results:A linear relationship was observed between the absorbance and the concentration of Cr in the range of 0-60 ng·mL-1(Y=0.01730X+0.0377,r=0.9995).The average spiked recoveries were 102.5%,87.5%,and 82.9%,respectively,which met the requirements.Conclusion:This method is accurate,simple,feasible and with rapid analysis,which can be used for the determination of chromium content in the gelatin empty capsules

Abstract:A method for simultaneous determination of fourteen elements including Al, Si, S, Ca, Mn, B, Ti, Mg, K, Na, P, Cr, Ni, Cu in acid-regenerated iron oxide by microwave digestion inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) was studied. The digestion time, power and pressure for microwave digestion were optimized. Proper spectral lines were selected through FACT software in ICP-AES spectrometer, avoiding matrix interference and spectral interference between elements. Moreover, the dissolving conditions and mechanism of matrix effect were discussed. The recovery and relative standard deviation (n=6) of microwave digestion method were both better than normal dissolving method. The determination results for acid-regenerated iron oxide powder were in accordance with those obtained by traditional wet analysis method.

Abstract:More than ten kinds of essential nutritious elements in tea and soil were determined by ICP-AES after digesting the samples with microwave,and the application database of microwave digestion was renewed. The rate of recovery was between 95.6%～104.3%,RSD was from 0.2% to 7.5%. Furthermore,the microwave digestion was compared with electric heating plate digestion in the accuracy, precision and recoveries of the method. It was demonstrated that microwave digestion is rapid with good precision and accuracy,and it is celerity,low pollution, little reagent etc. The method can satisfy the pre-treatment requirements of nutrient elements analysis for tea and soil.

Abstract:An effective method was developed for sequential rapid determination of trace elements in some seasonings by microwave digestion-high resolution continuum source graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry.The interferences were eliminated by adding the corresponding matrix modifiers.Results showed that the instrument detection limits of Cu,Cd,Pb,Mn and Al were 1.22 ng/mL,0.077 ng/mL,1.53 ng/mL,0.614 ng/mL and 1.54 ng/mL,respectively by this method.The recoveries were 95.2-106.4%.The precision relative standard deviations were less than 5.22%.Therefore,this method was rapid,accurate,stable and less pollution,and had a high practical value.It provided scientific basis for sequential rapid determination of many trace elements in food.

Abstract:Samples were digested by HNO3 + HClO4. Flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS) was successfully used to determine copper, zinc and iron in new resource food. Under our experimental conditions, the recovery ratio was 94.66%-108.80%; the precision was 0.71%-4.78%. This method of measuring elements is convenient, rapid and accurate. The results showed that there are profitable elements, such as copper, zinc and iron in new resourse food in Henan province. By F test and SNK test, the content sequence of metal elements was found as follows: copper, Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat = Silkworm pupa > flowers of Pueraria lobata Ohwin = Wheat germ = Codonopsis lanceolata = roots of Pueraria lobata Ohwi > Opuntia dillenii Haw. Abstract:An effective method is developed for sequential rapid determination of five trace elements in Fructus Amomi Rotundus by microwave digestion-high resolution continuum source graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry.The interferences are eliminated effectively by appropriate analytical spectral lines and matrix modifiers.Under the selected work conditions,the contents of Cu,Cd,Pb,Mn,Al in Fructus Amomi Rotundus are 9.59,0.134,0.363,249.8,624.4μg/g respectively,the recoveries are 103.0%,106.4%,99.7%,95.6%,96.4%respectively,the detection limits of the instrument are 1.22,0.077,1.53,0.614,1.54ng/mL respectively by this method,the precision relative standard deviations are all less than 3.7%.Therefore,this method is rapid,accurate,stable and with less pollution,and it has high practical value.It has provided scientific basis for sequential rapid determination of many trace elements in food.

Abstract:An effective method was developed for determination of cadmium in protein powder by microwave digestion-GFAAS with matrix modifier.The effects of NH4H2PO4 mass concentration in tested sample,ashing temperature and atomizing temperature on absorption was discussed.The optimal determination conditions were found by response surface methodology as follows: NH4H2PO4 mass concentration 3.51 mg/mL;ashing temperature 564℃;and atomizing temperature 1 893℃.Under the above conditions,the content of cadmium in protein powder was 0.238 μg/g,the precision relative standard deviation was 2.77%,the detection limit was 0.21 ng/mL,and the average recovery of cadmium in protein powder was 99.5% with a relative standard deviation of 2.82%.

Abstract:A method based on microwave sample digestion and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(ICP-MS) detection was established for determination of Cu,As,Cd,Hg and Pb in TCM(Traditional Chinese medicine).Indium was used as an internal standard element to calibrate the results of determination of these five elements.Determination limits of these five elements were in the range of 0.006～0.063 μg/g,coefficients of variation(CV%) were in the range of 0.2%～4.0%,and the recoveries of In were in the range of 96.7%～104.5%.The method has been applied to determining the five poisonous elements in 40 kinds of TCM.The results indicated that the problem of poisonous element in TCM was very serious,more attention should be paid to this problem in the production of TCM.

Abstract:The contents of multiple macro and micro elements in 5 kinds of wild mushrooms of Yunnan province were determined by ICP-AES with microwave digestion. The results showed that the wild mushrooms were rich in multiple elements such as P、S、K、Fe、Mg which are good for health. The same results were also found the contents of the same element in the different wild mushrooms were different and the contents of different elements in the same wild mushroom were different. The recovery rates for all these elements in this method were between 96.8% and 102.6%. The measuring method was proved to be simple, rapid, reliable and highly sensitive. In addition, the determination of these ten elements can be carried out at the same time, which can meet the requests of actua1 sample analysis.

Abstract:Arsenic in coal gangue is a potential pollution source and the coal ganaue samples need to be digested before testing.In this study,four types of coal gangue samples with different contents of silicon and aluminum were collected from different areas in Shanxi province.The impact of digestion technique on the determination of As content in coal gangue was evaluated.Satisfied digestion solutions were achieved by microwave digestion method with an acid mixture of HNO3-HF-H3PO4(4∶ 2∶ 1) and wet digestion with an acid mixture of HNO3HF-H3PO4-HClO 4(5∶ 1 ∶ 1 ∶ 1).The As content was determined by hydride generation inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry(HG-ICP-AES).Compared with wet digestion,microwave digestion took less experiment time and had higher precision and recovery in As content determination.Therefore,As content in coal gangue can be determined precisely by the combination of microwave digestion and HG-ICP-AES measurement.

Abstract:The high-chromium cast iron sample was microwave-assisted digested with aqueous regia in a closed vessel. Series standards were prepared with matching Fe matrix and adding Y as internal standard. Line intensities of the prepared standards and the digested sample solutions were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. Accuracy of the proposed method was verified by the analysis of three national standard Materials GSBH 41018, GBW 01120 and GBW 01121, and the results were well agreed with the certification data.

Abstract:A method for determining the selenium in tobacco and tobacco products with graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry was established by using microwave digestion technique to pretreat samples along with optimizing ashing temperature,atomization temperature and matrix modifier selection.The results showed that the method featured high precision with the relative error no more than 4.58%,the recovery ranged from 97.90% to 103.10%,and the detection limit of 0.035 μg/L.The method is suitable for the determination of selenium in tobacco and tobacco products.

Abstract:Near infra-red reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy was used to measure the moisture content in the hot-air dried Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng) roots, freeze-dried Asian ginseng roots, red Asian ginseng roots and hot-air dried American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium) roots. The convection drying method was used as the reference method. The calibration equation was obtained using the wavelength segment 1100-2500 nm with first derivative and scatter correction. A high correlation was obtained between the two analytical methods (R-2=0.998), with a standard error of prediction (SEP) of 0.14% for the NIR method. The bias between the two methods was insignificant, being only 0.12%. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Abstract:The geographical origin of Chinese ginseng is of great concern to customers, since quality varies tremendously with geographical origin. Therefore, accurately distinguishing the region of origin of specific types of ginseng, in order to differentiate the quality, is of great significance. In this paper, MPT-AES integrated with support vector machine (SVM) was proposed and applied to determine and classify the geographical origin of ginseng samples by using the chemical elemental compositions obtained. Specific data sets were extracted and dimensions were reduced through wavelet transformation. A classification model was built, relying on training sets, and then two parameters (c and g) were optimized in the SVM approach. SVM and Gaussian process classification (GPC) models were evaluated entirely on their prediction accuracy for unknown ginseng samples. Under optimized conditions, SVM outperformed GPC with a prediction accuracy of 100%, compared to 97.41%, in distinguishing the geographical origins. SVM also proved valid in the classification of individual types of ginseng with 99.81% accuracy, compared to GPC with 71.67%. These advanced chemometrics worked well for American ginseng identification. This study illustrates that chemometrics, together with the MPT-AES spectrochemical method, is a helpful and innovative technique for identifying and classifying ginseng samples, and is promising for accurate, convenient, automatic and reliable analysis.

Abstract:Contents of six important micro elements (Mg, Cu, Fe, Ca, Sr and Ba) in Radix Puerariae samples were determined by using a miniature simultaneous MPT spectrometer after acid digestion. Experimental parameters were studied and optimized. The analytical results are given. The recoveries are in the range of 87%～113% and the RSDs are less than 2%. The merits of the method include high sensitivity, rapidity, simultaneous determination of multi-elements, less sample consumption and low cost maintenance.

Abstract:This work proposes the use of high performance liquid chromatography coupled to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (HPLC-ICP-MS) for simultaneous speciation of arsenic and chromium in iron supplements used for the treatment of anemia. The sample preparation procedure recommended for the total determination of arsenic and chromium was established using acid digestion in a microwave assisted oven. For speciation analysis, however, the microwave-assisted extraction procedure involved the use of water as extraction solvent at 90°C for 30min. The chromatographic separation was performed using a mobile phase containing 1.0mM tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH), 0.7mM ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and 5% methanol at pH 7.2. Helium was used in the collision cell for elimination of the interferences. Under optimized conditions, the separation and detection of the As(III), As(V), Cr(III) and Cr(VI) species can be performed in 5min, permitting their quantification with the external calibration technique with standards prepared in the mobile phase. The limits of quantification obtained were 0.008, 0.010, 0.5 and 0.14µgg-1, for As(III), As(V), Cr(III) and Cr(VI), respectively. The accuracy of the method was evaluated and confirmed by addition/recovery tests. The recoveries obtained varied from 81% to 110%. The proposed method was applied to the speciation analysis of arsenic and chromium in commercially available iron supplements acquired in several cities in Brazil and Spain. The content of the species ranged from 0.01 to 1.3µgg-1 for arsenic, and from 0.4 to 61.2µgg-1 for chromium.
