Abstract:We establish the exact moduli of non-differentiability of Gaussian random fields with stationary increments. As an application of the result, we prove that the uniform Holder condition for the maximum local times of Gaussian random fields with stationary increments obtained in Xiao (1997) is optimal. These results are applicable to fractional Riesz-Bessel processes and stationary Gaussian random fields in the Matern and Cauchy classes.

Abstract:In this work, we provide sharp bounds on the rate of growth of maximal moments for stationary symmetric stable random fields when the underlying nonsingular group action (or its restriction to a suitable lower rank subgroup) has a nontrivial dissipative component. We also investigate the relationship between this rate of growth and the path regularity properties of self-similar stable random fields with stationary increments, and establish uniform modulus of continuity of such fields. In the process, a new notion of weak effective dimension is introduced for stable random fields and is connected to maximal moments and path properties. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Let $X=\{X(t),t\in\mathrm{R}^N\}$ be a centered real-valued operator-scaling Gaussian random field with stationary increments, introduced by Biermé, Meerschaert and Scheffler (Stochastic Process. Appl. 117 (2007) 312-332). We prove that $X$ satisfies a form of strong local nondeterminism and establish its exact uniform and local moduli of continuity. The main results are expressed in terms of the quasi-metric $\tau_E$ associated with the scaling exponent of $X$. Examples are provided to illustrate the subtle changes of the regularity properties.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with sample path properties of isotropic spherical Gaussian fields on S2. In particular, we establish the property of strong local nondeterminism of an isotropic spherical Gaussian field based on the high-frequency behaviour of its angular power spectrum; we then exploit this result to establish an exact uniform modulus of continuity for its sample paths. We also discuss the range of values of the spectral index for which the sample functions exhibit fractal or smooth behaviour.

Define the partial sum process in the usual way so that $W_n \left( t \right) = \sigma _n^{{\text{ - 1}}} \sum\nolimits_{m \leqq n \cdot t} {\left( {X_m - EX_m } \right)} \quad {\text{for}}\quad t \in \left[ {0,1} \right]^d$, where $\sigma _n^{\text{2}} = {\text{Var}}\left( {\sum\nolimits_{m \leqq n} {X_m } } \right)$. Under some suitable conditions, we show that W n (·) converges in distribution to a Brownian sheet. Direct consequences of the result are functional central limit theorems for negative dependent random fields. The result is based on some general theorems concerning asymptotically negative dependent random fields, which are of independent interest.

Abstract:Given a martingale sequence of random fields that satisfies a natural assumption of boundedness, it is shown that the pointwise limit of this sequence can be modified in such a way that a certain class of moduli of continuity is preserved. That is, if every element of the sequence admits a given modulus of continuity, one can construct a modification of the limiting random field so that this new field also admits the same modulus of continuity. Additionally, it is shown that requiring further smoothness and a stronger notion of boundedness for the original sequence guarantees further smoothness of the limiting field and a stronger mode of convergence to this limit. Moreover, the modulus of continuity is also preserved for the derivatives.

Abstract:We establish a Chung-type law of the iterated logarithm and the exact local and uniform moduli of continuity for a large class of anisotropic Gaussian random fields with a harmonizable-type integral representation and the property of strong local nondeterminism. Compared with the existing results in the literature, our results do not require the assumption of stationary increments and provide more precise upper and lower bounds for the limiting constants. The results are applicable to the solutions of a class of linear stochastic partial differential equations driven by a fractional-colored Gaussian noise, including the stochastic heat equation.

Abstract:ABSTRACT In this paper, for centred homogeneous Gaussian random fields the joint limiting distributions of normalized maxima and minima over continuous time and uniform grids are investigated. It is shown that maxima and minima are asymptotic dependent for strongly dependent homogeneous Gaussian random field with the choice of sparse grid, Pickands' grid or dense grid, while for the weakly dependent Gaussian random field maxima and minima are asymptotically independent.

The properties of space and time anisotropy of X and their connections to uniform Hausdorff dimension results are discussed. It is shown that in general the uniform Hausdorff dimension result does not hold for the image sets of a space-anisotropic Gaussian random field X . When X is an ( N , d )-Gaussian random field as in (1), where X 1 ,..., X d are independent copies of a real valued, centered Gaussian random field X 0 which is anisotropic in the time variable. We establish uniform Hausdorff dimension results for the image sets of X . These results extend the corresponding results on one-dimensional Brownian motion, fractional Brownian motion and the Brownian sheet.

Abstract:We study the absolute continuity with respect to the Lebesgue measure of the distribution of the nodal volume associated with a smooth, non-degenerated and stationary Gaussian field $(f(x), {x \in \mathbb R^d})$. Under mild conditions, we prove that in dimension $d\geq 3$, the distribution of the nodal volume has an absolutely continuous component plus a possible singular part. This singular part is actually unavoidable baring in mind that some Gaussian processes have a positive probability to keep a constant sign on some compact domain. Our strategy mainly consists in proving closed Kac--Rice type formulas allowing one to express the volume of the set $\{f =0\}$ as integrals of explicit functionals of $(f,\nabla f,\text{Hess}(f))$ and next to deduce that the random nodal volume belongs to the domain of a suitable Malliavin gradient. The celebrated Bouleau--Hirsch criterion then gives conditions ensuring the absolute continuity.

Abstract:In this paper, by establishing a Borel–Cantelli lemma for a capacity which is not necessarily continuous, and a link between a sequence of independent random variables under the sub-linear expectation and a sequence of independent random variables on ℝ∞ under a probability, we give the sufficient and necessary conditions of the strong law of large numbers for independent and identically distributed random variables under the sub-linear expectation, and the sufficient and necessary conditions for the convergence of an infinite series of independent random variables, without the assumption on the continuity of the capacities. A purely probabilistic proof of a weak law of large numbers is also given.
