Research on the Relationship Between Permanent Deformation and Air Void Structure of Asphalt Macadam Mixture

Abstract:It is generally regarded that bigger air voids are contradicted with minor permanent deformation,however,contrast study between air void and permanent deformation under different gradations and different compaction strengths indicates that asphalt macadam mixtures having different air void structure are quite different in permanent deformation.Further study indicates that it is possible to balance the contradiction among bigger air void and higher resilient modulus and minor permanent deformation for the asphalt macadam mixture.Key technologies lie in the mechanic stability of air void structure,which is not only relation with material design,but also with the cooperation of compaction techniques.In other words,it is significant to design asphalt macadam mixture with the incorporate design method of material-structure-technique.
