Abstract:The library in the institutions of higher learning is the special stack room to collect literature of its own.It is of great significance to show the result of running school,to keep up complete data and to form a characteristic collection.By taking University of Zhejiang Science and Technology(ZUST)as an example,we analyze the existing problems in the library construction of the newly-built institutions of higher learning and define the scope of the library collection.Thus several methods are advanced to strengthen both its direction and initiative to turn the data base resources into the school's special collection resources as well as to grasp the timing node to collect library materials.

Abstract:110 years' development of Peking University Library is divided into three periods: start-up and tortuous development in Late Qing and the Republic of China period,expanded and progressive development period from the founding of the People's Republic of China to pre-reforming and opening up,and sustainable development period to catch up with the world advanced universities library after the reform and opening up.Characteristics and achievements of each period are summarized.Finally,the future of academic libraries is redefined and prospected from eight aspects.

Abstract:Both internationalization and localization, and, both standardization and individualization are the impact factors of world top universities and their libraries. By analyzing four university libraries in mainland and Hong Kong China, the author observes and indicates the trends of the special collection development. The concept of special collection as rare books in a traditional sense has been enlarged in recent years. Developing varies new collections to reflect their individualities and surpport key disciplines of the universities, as well as digging old collections to reveal their traditions are two of the major considerations of the four universities observed. As a matter of fact, special collections have been one of the most important aspects reflecting the cultures and traditions of the universities and their libraries.

Abstract:The analysis of present situation of university libraries in China shows that the literature resources and the readers are all diversified. The urge demand for the libraries includes fast and efficient services and group work. The university libraries are characterized as knowledge carriers, information servers and literature collectors. The libraries should be reformed to provide diversified resources, precise services and easy acquisition of literatures. The reform of university libraries should follow the way from library planning, resources construction to literature sharing. The construction of library houses, literature resources and librarian teams is analyzed. The reform will force the libraries to be specialized in providing literature services. The libraries will continue to function as a typical cultural area in university campus.

New Review of Academic Librarianship

Abstract:University libraries are constituted in the literature by a range of overlapping and shifting conceptual models that are deployed to capture, express and legitimise their repurposing, progressive status and function within the university campus. Over the last two decades university libraries have been increasingly characterised as highly responsive and receptive to the fast-moving currents of technological innovation, and emergent teaching and learning paradigms. This paper charts and discusses the evolutionary trajectory of the university library set within an historical context, exploring the discursive influences that have both stimulated and propagated what might be described as progressive transformation. The paper seeks to portray and unpack the Zeitgeist of the academic library that has been cultivated in contemporary times; positioning the university library against a backdrop of global developments that have shaped the university sector from the early 1990s, and offering a macro-level exploration of the increasing status of the university library.
Student Experience and Satisfaction in Academic Libraries: A Comparative Study among Three Universities in Wuhan

Abstract:In recent years, the spatial renovation of university libraries in various countries has focused on readers' needs and followed the trend to develop learning spaces as a primary spatial form. In this study, we reviewed six spatial dimensions affecting student users' learning experience. Specifically, we built a theory- and practice-based conceptual analysis framework to measure users' satisfaction with recent spatial renovations at three university libraries in Wuhan, China. We used SPSS statistical software to conduct multiple linear regression analyses of spatial satisfaction. The findings show that five spatial dimensions significantly affect students' satisfaction with library space, namely, service facility availability, quality of interior design, physical environment elements, spatial diversity, and learning space controllability. Service facility availability is the most critical factor affecting spatial satisfaction. In this study, we present empirical, evidence-based space elements that enhance user satisfaction with library spaces, and provide targeted design suggestions for future library space renovation and the optimization of space allocation and expansion of space services at university libraries in China.

Abstract:Abstract In recent years, the energy conservation and environmental protection construction of university libraries and the coordinated development of ecological environment are important topics in the construction of socialist culture in China. In-depth study of energy conservation and environmental protection measures for library construction, through the use of excellent and ingenious design and the use of emerging technologies, do our best. Reduce the operating costs of libraries and realize the construction of green energy-saving and environmentally-friendly libraries. The university is building or expanding libraries to meet the needs of school expansion. The library plays an important role in the university and is one of the university’s landmark buildings. According to the actual design of library construction design, this paper expounds that energy conservation and environmental protection are the inevitable trend of university library architectural design development.

Abstract:Abstract With the spatial culture theory as the basis and from the perspective of cultural heritage, this paper elucidates the construction of the Liu Xiao Ling Tong Book Pavilion of Yunnan Normal University (which may also be interpreted as a Traditional Culture Commons), introduces modern library concepts such as ‘celebrity charm’, featured resources and space reconstruction, as well as provides enlightenment to the library cycle with Chinese wisdom and experience. This paper applies participant observation method, interviewing method and textual analysis method with the data collection period from September 2015 to December 2016. Through library space reconstruction and the inheritance of certain outstanding features of Chinese culture, the Liu Xiao Ling Tong Book Pavilion has had an influence among university faculty and students, the university library circle in China and even the entire education circle, while also complemented and improved the applicability of the spatial culture theory in the library circumstance.
