Abstract:Titanium metal and alloy are key materials for technological development, which significantly promote the development of the hightech economy in China. The consumption of high-end titanium materials and the developmental level of the titanium industry are important indexes of a country’s comprehensive power. However, at present, the application amount and level of high-end titanium materials in China are limited by many factors, including the dependence of raw materials on imports, high processing cost, and structural imbalance of products. Based on the characteristics of titanium resources and the current situation of the titanium industry, the whole titanium industrial chain in China should be updated. Improving the quality of raw materials is important to produce low-cost, high-end titanium materials using titanium resources with high calcium and magnesium contents in the Panxi region. In addition, the steel-titanium joint production is a vital step to reduce the processing cost of titanium materials. Moreover, the consumption structure of titanium materials should be completed to expand their application. Gradually implementing these suggestions, the overall level of China’s titanium industry will be greatly improved, thereby rapidly establishing an advanced scientific and technological country.

Abstract:Chinese steel industry has made significant progress on reducing fresh water consumption and CO2/SO2/COD (chemical oxygen demand)/dust emissions, and improving comprehensive utilization of solid waste. Some steel companies have become topped worldwide. However, due to the large output quantity of crude steel, the whole steel industry is still a huge source of pollutants. At present, environmental protection standards are encountering challenges of lack of technical support, taxation policy and other issues. Steel industry is currently facing enormous environmental pressure. The development trends of environmental protection technologies were studied by summarizing different development stages. To realize the development targets, the industry needs to carry out its research with independent intellectual property rights, develop comprehensive management systems and establish ecological chain with other industries. This can not only raise the level of environmental protection in a broader range, but also improve the energy efficiency of iron and steel plants and increase added value of waste utilization. Finally, 23 environmental protection technologies were proposed and 4 new environmental protection practices were studied.

The Technical Integration of Energy Supplying and the Production Practice in 150 t Electric Arc Furnace Steel-making Process

Abstract:Three important technologies of energy supplying were introduced for 150 t electric arc furnace steel-making process in Tianjin Pipe Group Co., which were hot metal charging, 2500m~3/h oxygen supplying and 100MVA transformer power supplying, and they could be integrated reasonably among them. Through technological transformations and production practice for more than ten years, good production progress had been made. The tapping to tapping time was 54.6 min on average and the oxygen consumption approximately 42.9m~3/t. The smelting electricity consumption was decreased to about 325 kWh/t and the transformer utilization factor had surpassed 11 000 t/(MVA·a).

Abstract:The development of China's steel industry has been phenomenal, and in 2018, China's crude steel production reached 928.3 million tonnes and accounted for 51.3% share of global crude steel production. In the past 70 years, along with the country's growth and development, China steel industry has experienced a period of unstable development, rapid growth, reduction and optimization. The purposes of this article are to provide some historical background of the steel industry development in China. In this article, we will summarize the unstable development of China's steel industry from 1949 to 1978. We will, then, describe stable development over the reform and opening-up period from 1978 to 1999 and rapid development in the boom period from 2000 to 2014. Finally, we will discuss how the steel industry copes with the new challenges in China's move towards supply-side reform since 2015 and the future directions of the development of China's steel industry.

Abstract:The origin and development of air-cooled Mn-series bainite steels are introduced. The invented idea, strengthening-toughening mechanism, mechanical performances, development and application of this kind of steel including granular bainitic steels, FGBA / BG duplex steels, CFB/M duplex steels, medium carbon bainite/martensite steels, cast bainitic steels are presented. The invented idea mechanical performances, development and application of second generation of Mn-series bainitic steels, i.e. water-quenched Mn-series bainitic steels invented by the authors newly are introduced. The water quenched Mn-series bainitic steels can meet the performance requirements of most steels used in engineering structure, reduce the amount of alloying content, increase harden capability and improve weldability. It should be pointed out that the application of both air-cold and water- quenched Mn-series bainitic steels are complementary and mutually reinforcing. Some newest technology of Mn-series bainitic steels in China are discussed in this paper. It is suggested that the significance of the development of the Mn-series bainitic steels can be summarized as: significantly reducing costs of both raw materials and production; good combination of strength and toughness; excellent weldability; simple procedure; large savings in energy resources and environmental pollution is reduced.

Abstract:Chinese steel industry has expanded very quickly since the 1990s,and has strengthened the technological capabilities extraordinarily.Meanwhile,the innovation mechanism in this industry has changed a lot from the mode of government leading,research institutes researching and developing and enterprises populating and applying to the mode of enterprises-centered with university-industry-institutes cooperation.And the most critical factors causing this change are the macro background of the national reform of economic,political,scientific and technological system,the enhancement of enterprises' R&D incentive as long as the expand and the structure changing,as well as the changing of the technology regime itself in this industry.Taking part in the global technological innovation cooperation basing on the market economy is becoming the new characteristic of Chinese steel industry,while this new mode also brings some new problems such as the duplication of imports or the inefficient innovation investment etc.So the Chinese steel industry should solve lots of problems in the organization management of the generic technology as well as the proper role of government,in which how to innovate in the mechanism of the industrial generic technology supply and diffusion is the problem needing to be further discussed.
