Wear
Abstract:An examination has been made of the friction and wear properties of carbon-fibre-reinforced poly(phenylene sulphide) sliding against steel without lubrication. Stress was laid on the variation in properties with fibre content. With increasing load, the average contact temperature, friction and wear increase. While for increasing fibre content, the temperature and friction exhibit a minimum for fibre content in the range 20–30 wt.% and, correspondingly, the pressure-velocity limit shows a maximum. The wear exhibits, firstly, a minimum which is followed by a maximum. The topography and chemical situation of the counterface significantly affect the friction and wear.
