Characteristics and Development Course of the International Distance Education Research——Analysis Based on International Conference Documents

Abstract:With the constant development of science and technology,the distance education has undergone a qualitative change.The database of ISI Proceeding collects all documents of the international distance education conference ranging from 1987 to 2009.The research made in the database reveals the following findings:the distance education research in general has the trend of incessant rising;research topics concentrate on educational theories firstly,later research topics are mainly influenced by new technologies,such as computer technology,Internet,communication technology;the main part of research institutes are institutions of higher learning,while the governments play a minor role in the research;research institutes are distributed widely and most of them are located in the U.S.A,European countries and few Asian countries.The development of Chinese distance education course demands to expand input and support of the government,introduce the market mechanism,unite different subjects and research institutes for the sake of striving for the mutual development of educational theories and technological innovation.
