Focus and Trend of Oversea Distance Education Research——Quantitative Analysis of Oversea Research Outcome of Distance Education

Abstract:ERIC is the largest and the most prestigious world-class educational database in the educational field.Based on this database,we collected a total of 12402 documents in distance education from 1972 to 2010.Then a series of bibliometric analysis have been done to the collected documents.This study reveals that research in distance education has entered into a stable production stage.There are plenty of literature sources,with journals as the main source.There are varies of publication types,mainly journal articles and research reports.A wide range of topics are concerned,especially the following hot issues——education level,instructional design,teaching methods,technology related to the area and application of technology in distance education.Currently,the study of overseas distance education has reached collegial and postgraduate level,and gradually shifted to traditional education field.Overseas researchers began to focus on educational policy,teacher-student relationship,interaction,blended learning and the application of new technologies in distance education.
