Abstract:A generalized Wigner function W(T)(alpha, alpha) including the thermal degrees of freedom is presented to calculate the 'reduced' Wigner functions for all kinds of coherent and squeezed states with thermal noise by the formalism of thermofield dynamics. The results show that the different definitions of coherent and squeezed state with the same corresponding density matrix give rise to the same reduced Wigner function. By our method, the reduced Wigner function can be calculated for an arbitrary vector in the thermal Fock space, of which the density matrix is too complicated to use.

Abstract:Based on Takahashi-Umezawa thermo field dynamics and the order-invariance of Weyl ordered operators under similar transformations, we present a new approach to deriving the exact Wigner functions of thermo number state, photon subtracted and added thermo vacuum state. We find that these Wigner functions are related to the Gaussian-Laguerre type functions of temperature, whose statistical properties are then analysed.

Abstract:The heart of the light field theory at finite temperatures is the introduce of a thermal vacuum state, which is also the basis for studying the statistical properties of quantum light fields. Based on Takahashi and Umezawa's thermal chaotic field dynamics theory (TFD), this paper introduces a " fictitious mode" to represent the degrees of freedom of the thermal environment, then the thermal vacuum of the displaced thermal state (DTS) is proposed and constructed by the integration within an ordered product (IWOP) in the extended space, and we obtained the expected value of the photon number, fluctuation, second-order coherence, Wigner function. Finally, it is found that the photon number of the system is decreased at a rate of due to the interaction of the DTS with the surrounding thermal environment by calculating the photon number diffusion.

Abstract:Based on the < eta \ representation in Thermo Field Dynamics(3) we introduce the thermal Wigner operator, with which we reach the conclusion that due to the thermal effect the quantum fluctuation of two-mode squeezed vacuum state increases by a factor cosh 2 theta, where tanh theta = exp(-hw/2kT). We also mathematically analyse the formalism of Thermo Field Dynamics in the context of entanglement theory.

Abstract:Because in thermo-field dynamics (TFD) the thermo-operator has a neat expression in the thermo-entangled state representation, we need to introduce the thermo-Wigner operator (THWO) in the same representation. We derive the THWO in a direct way, which brings much conveniece to calculating the Wigner functions of thermo states in TFD. We also discuss the condition for existence of a wavefunction corresponding to a given Wigner function in the context of TFD by using the explicit form of the THWO.

Abstract:For quantum field theory at finite temperature we construct a new thermal excitation representation |E,g〉, which is the common eigenvector of Hamiltonian operator of total system (including the reservoir) and the operator (α(β)−α̃†(β))(α†(β)−α̃(β)), where α†(β) (α̃†(β)) creates a quantum of energy ℏω(β) (−ℏω(β)), respectively, β=ℏ/kT, k is the Boltzmann constant. The explicit from of |E,g〉 is derived by virtue of the common eigenvector α(β)−α̃†(β) and α†(β)−α̃(β). The thermo excitation and de-excitation operations are manifestly displayed in |E,g〉 representation. As an application, the |E,g〉 representation of thermal squeezing operator is obtained.

Abstract:Based on thermo field dynamics (TFD) and using the thermo Wigner operator in the thermo entangled state representation we derive the Wigner function of number states at finite temperature ( named thermo number states). The figure of Wigner function shows that its shape gets smoothed as the temperature rises, implying that the quantum noise becomes larger.

Abstract:This paper discusses some statistical properties of the superposition of two coherent states with a vacuum state,such as sub-Poissonian photon statistics and negativity of the Wigner function.Phase probability distribution and phase variance are calculated.Special cases of the constructed superposition states are presented.The results show that depending on the vacuum state coefficient γ and the coherent state coefficient α,it can generate a variety of nonclassical states.

Abstract:This article focuses on most recent advances in the linearized semiclassical initial value representation (LSC‐IVR)/classical Wigner model that includes quantum effects with classical trajectories and recovers exact thermal correlation functions (of even nonlinear operators, that is, nonlinear functions of position or momentum operators) in the classical, high temperature, and harmonic limits. Two methods for implementing the LSC‐IVR/classical Wigner which are in principle feasible to be combined with general force fields or even ab initio electronic structure methods have been reviewed. One is the local Gaussian approximation with the imaginary time path integral approach, the other is the quantum thermal bath method. The article emphasizes on the theory and the algorithms for implementation, while it also covers recent applications and limitations of the LSC‐IVR/classical Wigner. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
Generalized Wigner operators and relativistic gauge fields

Abstract:We introduce and study the generalized Wigner operator. By definition, such an operator transforms the Wigner wave function into a local relativistic field corresponding to an irreducible representation of the Poincaré group by extended discrete transformations, with integer helicities $\lambda$ and $-\lambda$. It is shown that the relativistic fields constructed in this way are gauge potentials and satisfy the relations that determine free massless higher spin fields.

Abstract:We find that the Thermo Field Dynamics, invented by Takahashi and Umezawa, can simplify calculations of Wigner functions for density matrices rho. Using the coherent thermal state representation (Phys. Lett. A246, 242 (1998)), we show that the Wigner function W = Tr(Deltap) (an ensemble average of the Wigner operator Delta) can be expressed as a matrix element of rho in the pure coherent thermal states. Wigner functions for some complicated density matrices are derived in this way.

Abstract:It is found that the thermal wavelength of the particles in any positive dimensionality with any positive-exponent energy-momentum (i.e. dispersion) relation must be redefined. A new definition of the thermal wavelength is given, from which the thermodynamic properties of a free ideal system consisting of such particles may be expressed in a compact form similar to those for a three-dimensional nonrelativistic ideal system with which we are all familiar. Moreover, some significant and novel characteristics of the general thermal wavelength redefined here are revealed.

Abstract:In this work, we consider the phase-space picture of quantum mechanics. We then introduce non-negative Wigner-like (operational) distributions \widetilde{\mathcal W}_{rho;alpha}(x,p) corresponding to the density operator \hat{rho} and being proportional to {W_{rho^(alpha/2)}(x,p)}^2, where W_{rho}(x,p) denotes the usual Wigner function. In doing so, we utilize the formal symmetry between the purity measure Tr(rho^2) and its Wigner representation (2 pi hbar) \int dx dp {W_{rho}(x,p)}^2 and then consider, as a generalization, such symmetry between the fractional moment Tr(\hat{rho}^{alpha}) and its Wigner representation (2 pi hbar) \int dx dp {W_{rho^{alpha/2}}(x,p)}^2. Next, we create a framework that enables explicit evaluation of the Renyi-Wigner entropies for the classical-like distributions \widetilde{\mathcal W}_{rho;alpha}(x,p). Consequently, a better understanding of some non-Gaussian features of a given state rho will be given, by comparison with the Gaussian state rho_G defined in terms of its Wigner function W_{rho_G}(x,p) and essentially determined by its purity measure T(rho_G)^2 alone. To illustrate the validity of our framework, we evaluate the distributions \widetilde{\mathcal W}_{beta;alpha}(x,p) corresponding to the (non-Gaussian) thermal state rho_{\beta} of a single particle confined by a one-dimensional infinite potential well with either the Dirichlet or Neumann boundary condition and then analyze the resulting Renyi entropies. Our phase-space approach will also contribute to a deeper understanding of non-Gaussian states and their properties either in the semiclassical limit (hbar \to 0) or in the high-temperature limit (beta \to 0), as well as enabling us to systematically discuss the quantal-classical Second Law of Thermodynamics on the single footing.

Abstract:For open quantum systems, the Gaussian environmental dissipative effect can be represented by statistical quasi-particles, namely, dissipatons. We exploit this fact to establish the dissipaton thermofield theory. The resulting generalized Langevin dynamics of absorptive and emissive thermofield operators are effectively noise-resolved. The system–bath entanglement theorem is then readily followed between an important class of nonequilibrium steady-state correlation functions. All these relations are validated numerically. A simple corollary is the transport current expression, which exactly recovers the result obtained from the nonequilibrium Green’s function formalism.

Vacuum correlations of the stress-energy-momentum tensor with constituent quarks

Abstract:The two point correlation function of the stress-energy-momentum tensor describes the propagation of a space-time "micro-earthquake" in the vacuum. In the framework of the path integral formulation of field theory in curved space-time, we derive the Ward-Takashi identity for two-point Green's function of the stress-energy-momentum tensor for a general case of a non-conformal theory. The identity constrains the longitudinal part of the correlator, with the vacuum expectation value of the stress-energy-momentum, non-zero in a non-conformal theory. The obtained formula is demonstrated on the free massive Dirac fermion theory, treated at the one-loop level. This example befits a class of phenomenological chiral quarks models which have been used successfully in numerous applications in the soft non-perturbative regime of strong interactions. We discuss the constraints following from the Ward-Takahashi identity for the correlation functions in these models. We also show how the temporal representation of the two-point correlators, which is an object amenable to lattice QCD, displays an expected exponential fall-off.

Abstract:To conveniently calculate the Wigner function of the optical cumulant operator and its dissipation evolution in a thermal environment, in this paper, the thermo-entangled state representation is introduced to derive the general evolution formula of the Wigner function, and its relation to Weyl correspondence is also discussed. The method of integration within the ordered product of operators is essential to our discussion.

Abstract:In this paper, we present the density operator of the generalized squeezed thermal state (GSTS) and obtain its normal ordering form by virtue of the technique of integration within an ordered product of operators and the Weyl ordering invariance under similarity transformations. Some significant quantum statistical properties of the GSTS are investigated, such as the photon-number distribution (PND) and the Wigner function (WF). It is found that the PND of the GSTS is a Legendre polynomial, and its squeezed vacuum oscillations imply the nonclassicality, as well as the GSTS whose WF has no negative region is indeed a special type of nonclassical state.

Abstract:The core of optical field theory at finite temperature is how to introduce the thermo-vacuum state which is the basis of comprehensive investigation of electromagnetic field by virtue of quantum statistic method. Based on the spirit of thermo-field dynamics initiated by Takahashi and Umezawa, we first employ the integration method within the ordered product of operators to search for thermo-vacuum state for the optical negative binomial state (NBS)s=s+1(1-)n|n,+,+,which takes the form of pure negative binomial state. The newly found thermo-vacuum state brings convenience for evaluating the Wigner function of NBS and the fluctuation of photon numbers in NBS.

Abstract:We apply the so-called variational Gaussian wavepacket approximation (VGA) for conducting both real- and imaginary-time dynamics to calculate thermal correlation functions. By considering strongly anharmonic systems, such as a quartic potential and a double-well potential at high and low temperatures, it is shown that this method is partially able to account for tunneling. This is contrary to other popular many-body methods, such as ring polymer molecular dynamics and the classical Wigner method, which fail in this respect. It is a historical peculiarity that no one has considered the VGA method for representing both the Boltzmann operator and the real-time propagation. This method should be well suited for molecular systems containing many atoms.

Correlation Function Of Thin-Shell Operators

Abstract:In this study, we explore the correlation functions of thin-shell operators, represented semiclassically by a homogeneous, thin interface of dust particles. Employing the monodromy method, we successfully compute the contribution from the Virasoro vacuum block and present the monodromy equation in a closed form without assuming the probe limit. Although an analytical solution to the monodromy equation remains difficult, we demonstrate that it is perturbatively solvable within specific limits, including the probe, the heavy-shell, and the early-time limits. Moreover, we compare our results with gravitational calculations and find precise agreement. We strengthen our findings by proving that the thermal correlation functions in gravity, after an inverse Laplace transformation, satisfy the field theory's monodromy equation. Additionally, we identify an infinite series of unphysical solutions to the monodromy equation and discuss their potential geometrical duals.
