Abstract:Leptons, quarks and gauge bosons are assumed to be described by local field theory. Stringent bounds on nonlocal scale can be derived from the high- presision LEP measurements. We find a bound on nonlocal scale $\Lambda_{nl} > 1020\: Gev$, C.L.95\% from LEP data.

Abstract:We discuss subtleties in the calculation of loop integrals in studies of hot and dense systems as they appear in both perturbative and non-perturbative approaches. To be specific, we address subtleties which appear in situations where the order of integration, differentiation, and limit processes plays a crucial role. For example, this applies to computations of the effective action and the computation of momentum-dependent correlation functions. In particular, the zero-temperature limit is delicate in systems with fermions because of the presence of discontinuities at the Fermi surface. We provide a general discussion of scenarios where the computation and evaluation of loop integrals in the context of relativistic theories requires particular attention as a change of the order of the involved mathematical operations may lead to a different result. Our general considerations are then illustrated with the aid of concrete examples, namely by the computation of screening masses from fully momentum-dependent correlation functions in the context of the Gross-Neveu-Yukawa model and quantum electrodynamics.

Yang-Mills correlation functions at finite temperature

Abstract:We put forward a continuum approach for computing finite temperature correlation functions in Yang-Mills theory. This is done in a functional renormalisation group setting which allows for the construction of purely thermal RG-flows. This approach is applied to the ghost and gluon propagators as well as the ghost-gluon vertex in the Landau gauge. We present results in a temperature regime going from vanishing temperature to temperatures far above the confinement-deconfinement temperature Tc. Our findings compare well with the lattice results available.

Spin-Spin Correlations in the Kitaev Model at Finite Temperatures: Approximate and Exact Results via Green's Function Equation of Motion

Abstract:The Kitaev model, defined on a honeycomb lattice, features an exactly solvable ground state with fractionalized Majorana fermion excitations, which can potentially form non-Abelian anyons crucial for fault-tolerant topological quantum computing. Although Majorana fermions are essential for obtaining the exact ground state, their physical interpretation in terms of spin operators remains unclear. In this study, we employ a Green's function approach that maintains SU(2) symmetry to address this issue and explore the model's finite temperature properties. Our results demonstrate that the computed temperature dependence of the correlation functions closely approximates the exact values at zero temperature, confirming the accuracy of our method. We also present several exact results concerning the spin Green's function and spin-spin correlation functions that are specific to the Kitaev model.

Abstract:Can space-time symmetries such as Lorentz, dilatation, or conformal symmetry be recovered at infinite temperature? To address this question, we study correlation functions of generalized free conformal field theories (a.k.a free holographic theories in thermal AdS space-time) at infinite temperature. We show that they are broken at the leading order in bosonic correlation functions, but a non-trivial scaling symmetry may emerge.

Abstract:In his celebrated paper Kontsevich has proved a theorem which manifestly gives a quantum product (deformation quantization formula) and states that changing coordinates leads to gauge equivalent star products. To illuminate his procedure, we make an arbitrary change of coordinates in the Moyal product and obtain the deformation quantization formula up to the third order. In this way, the Poisson bi-vector is shown to depend on \hbar and not to satisfy the Jacobi identity. It is also shown that the values of coefficients in the formula obtained follow from associativity of the star product.

General Formula for the Green's Function Approach to the Spin-1/2 Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Model

Abstract:A wide range of analytical and numerical methods are available to study quantum spin systems. However, the complexity of spin correlations and interactions limits their applicability to specific temperature ranges. The analytical approach utilizing Green's function has proved advantageous, as it allows for formulation without restrictions on the presence of long-range order and facilitates estimation of the spin excitation spectrum and thermodynamic quantities across the entire temperature range. In this work, we present a generalized formulation of the Green's function method that can be applied to diverse spin systems. As specific applications, we consider the hypercubic lattice and the $J_1$-$J_2$ model. For the cubic lattice case, the Green's function approach provides a good estimation for the transition temperature. Regarding the $J_1$-$J_2$ model, we include nematic correlations in the analysis and find no signature of such correlations, though accurate numerical calculations are required in the presence of strong frustration. Although our focus is on the spin one-half antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on an arbitrary lattice, the Green's function approach can be generalized to incorporate other interactions and higher spin values.

Light-front Schwinger Model at Finite Temperature

Abstract:We study the light-front Schwinger model at finite temperature following the recent proposal of Alves, Das, and Perez. We show that the calculations are carried out efficiently by working with the full propagator for the fermion, which also avoids subtleties that arise with light-front regularizations. We demonstrate this with the calculation of the zero temperature anomaly. We show that temperature dependent corrections to the anomaly vanish, consistent with the results from the calculations in conventional quantization. The gauge self-energy is seen to have the expected nonanalytic behavior at finite temperature, but does not quite coincide with the conventional results. However, the two structures are exactly the same on shell. We show that the temperature does not modify the bound state equations and that the fermion condensate has the same behavior at finite temperature as that obtained in conventional quantization.

In this work, we present a generalized formulation of the Green’s function method that can be applied to diverse spin systems. The notable aspect of our approach is that the theory aligns with the high-temperature expansion results in the high-temperature regime. When the spatial dimension d is d ≥ 3, our formulation effectively describes the magnetic long-range order as Bose–Einstein condensation occurring at the wave vector characteristic of the magnetic long-range order. As an application to a frustrated spin system, we consider the J1–J2 model on the square lattice, incorporating nematic correlations. While our approach may not be robust enough to determine the ground state properties, it is capable of describing short-range correlations at finite temperatures to a certain extent. In the presence of strong frustration, accurate numerical calculations become essential. Within this framework, we compute the specific heat, the spin susceptibility, and the spin-wave gaps at characteristic wave vectors, and discuss the effects of frustration. Our primary focus here is on the spin one-half antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on an arbitrary lattice. However, the Green’s function approach can be extended to include other types of interactions and accommodate higher spin values.

Fluctuations and Correlations of Conserved Charges in QCD at Finite Temperature with Effective Models

Abstract:We study fluctuations of conserved charges including baryon number, electric charge, and strangeness as well as the correlations among these conserved charges in the $2+1$ flavor Polyakov--Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model at finite temperature. The calculated results are compared with those obtained from recent lattice calculations performed with an improved staggered fermion action at two values of the lattice cutoff with almost physical up and down quark masses and a physical value for the strange quark mass. We find that our calculated results are well consistent with those obtained in lattice calculations except for some quantitative differences for fluctuations related with strange quarks. Our calculations indicate that there is a pronounced cusp in the ratio of the quartic to quadratic fluctuations of baryon number, i.e. ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{4}^{B}/{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{2}^{B}$, at the critical temperature during the phase transition, which confirms that ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{4}^{B}/{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{2}^{B}$ is a useful probe of the deconfinement and chiral phase transition.

Abstract:We extend the Schwinger-Dyson equation (SDE) on the complex plane, which was treated in our previous research, to finite temperature. As a simple example, we solve the SDE for a model with four-fermion interactions in the (1+1) space-time dimensions at strong coupling region. We investigate the properties of the effective mass and energy for the fermions, especially near the phase transition temperature.

Abstract:We examine the phase structure of the two-flavor Schwinger model as a function of the $\theta$-angle and the two masses, $m_1$ and $m_2$. In particular, we find interesting effects at $\theta=\pi$: along the $SU(2)$-invariant line $m_1 = m_2 = m$, in the regime where $m$ is much smaller than the charge $g$, the theory undergoes logarithmic RG flow of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless type. As a result, in this regime there is a non-perturbatively small mass gap $\sim e^{- A g^2/m^2}$. The $SU(2)$-invariant line lies within a region of the phase diagram where the charge conjugation symmetry is spontaneously broken and whose boundaries we determine numerically. Our numerical results are obtained using the Hamiltonian lattice gauge formulation that includes the mass shift $m_\text{lat} = m- g^2 a/4$ dictated by the discrete chiral symmetry.

de Sitter at all loops: the story of the Schwinger model

Abstract:We consider the two-dimensional Schwinger model of a massless charged fermion coupled to an Abelian gauge field on a fixed de Sitter background. The theory admits an exact solution, first examined by Jayewardena, and can be analyzed efficiently using Euclidean methods. We calculate fully non-perturbative, gauge-invariant correlation functions of the electric field as well as the fermion and analyze these correlators in the late-time limit. We compare these results with the perturbative picture, for example by verifying that the one-loop contribution to the fermion two-point function, as predicted from the exact solution, matches the direct computation of the one-loop Feynman diagram. We demonstrate many features endemic of quantum field theory in de Sitter space, including the appearance of late-time logarithms, their resummation to de Sitter invariant expressions, and Boltzmann suppressed non-perturbative phenomena, with surprising late-time features.

Generalized forward scattering amplitudes in QCD at high temperature

Abstract:We extend to a general class of covariant gauges an approach which relates the thermal Green functions to forward scattering amplitudes of thermal particles. A brief discussion of the non-transversality of the thermal gluon polarization tensor is given in this context. This method is then applied to the calculation of the ln(T) contributions associated with general configurations of 2 and 3-point gluon functions. The results are Lorentz covariant and have the same structure as the ultraviolet divergent contributions which occur at zero temperature.

Exact low-temperature Green's functions in AdS/CFT: From Heun to confluent Heun

Abstract:We obtain exact expressions for correlation functions of charged scalar operators at finite density and low temperature in CFT$_4$ dual to the RN-AdS$_5$ black brane. We use recent developments in the Heun connection problem in black hole perturbation theory arising from Liouville CFT and the AGT correspondence. The connection problem is solved perturbatively in an instanton counting parameter, which corresponds to a low-temperature expansion in a double-scaling limit where $\omega, T \to 0$ holding $\omega/T$ fixed. We gain analytic control over the emergence of the zero temperature branch cut as a confluent limit of the Heun equation. From the Green's function we extract analytic results for the critical temperature of the holographic superconductor, as well as dispersion relations for both gapped and gapless low temperature quasinormal modes. We demonstrate precise agreement with numerics.

Torsional Constitutive Relations at Finite Temperature

Abstract:The general form of the linear torsional constitutive relations at finite temperature of the chiral current, energy-momentum tensor, and spin energy potential are computed for a chiral fermion fluid minimally coupled to geometric torsion and with nonzero chiral chemical potential. The corresponding transport coefficients are explicitly calculated in terms of the energy and number densities evaluated at vanishing torsion. A microscopic calculation of these constitutive relations in some particular backgrounds is also presented, confirming the general structure found.

IR finite correlation functions in de Sitter space, a smooth massless limit, and an autonomous equation

Abstract:We explore two-point and four-point correlation functions of a massive scalar field on the flat de Sitter background in the long-wavelength approximation. By employing the Yang-Feldman-type equation, we compute the two-point correlation function up to the three-loop level and the four-point correlation function up to the two-loop one. In contrast to the standard theory of a massive scalar field based on the de Sitter-invariant vacuum, we develop the vacuum-independent reasoning that may not possess de Sitter invariance but results in a smooth massless limit of the correlation function's infrared part. Our elaboration affords to calculate correlation functions of a free massive scalar field and to proceed with quantum corrections, relying only on the known two-point correlation function's infrared part of a free massless one. Remarkably, the two-point correlation function of a free massive scalar field coincides with the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck stochastic process's one and has a clear physical interpretation. We compared our results with those obtained with the Schwinger-Keldysh diagrammatic technique, Starobinsky's stochastic approach, and the Hartree-Fock approximation. At last, we have constructed a renormalization group-inspired autonomous equation for the two-point correlation function. Integrating its approximate version, one obtains the non-analytic expression with respect to a self-interaction coupling constant $\lambda$. That solution reproduces the correct perturbative series up to the two-loop level. At the late-time limit, it almost coincides with the result of Starobinsky's stochastic approach in the whole interval of a new dimensionless parameter $0 \leq \tfrac{\pi^2 m^4}{3\lambda H^4} < \infty$.

Static and Dynamical Spin Correlations in the Kitaev Model at Finite Temperatures via Green's Function Equation of Motion

Abstract:The Kitaev model, renowned for its exact solvability and potential to host non-Abelian anyons, remains a focal point in the study of quantum spin liquids and topological phases. While much of the existing literature has employed Majorana fermion techniques to analyze the model, particularly at zero temperature, its finite-temperature behavior has been less thoroughly explored via alternative approaches. In this paper, we investigate the finite-temperature properties of the Kitaev model using the spin Green's function formalism. This approach enables the computation of key physical quantities such as spin correlations, magnetic susceptibility, and the dynamical spin structure factor, offering crucial insights into the system's thermal dynamics. In solving the equation of motion for the spin Green's function, we truncate the hierarchy of multi-spin Green's functions using a decoupling approximation, which proves to be particularly accurate at high temperatures. Our results show several similarities with Majorana-based numerical simulations, though notable differences emerge. Specifically, both static and dynamical spin-spin correlation functions capture not only $\mathbb{Z}_2$ flux excitations but also simple spin-flip excitations, with the latter overshadowing the former. Interestingly, without explicitly assuming fractionalization, our results for the spin susceptibility and spin relaxation rate still suggest the presence of fermionic degrees of freedom at low temperatures. This study provides a complementary approach to understanding the thermal properties of the Kitaev model, which could be relevant for future experiments and theoretical investigations.

Computation of Dynamical Correlation Functions for Many Fermion Systems with Auxiliary-Field Quantum Monte Carlo

Abstract:We address the calculation of dynamical correlation functions for many fermion systems at zero temperature, using the auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo method. The two-dimensional Hubbard hamiltonian is used as a model system. Although most of the calculations performed here are for cases where the sign problem is absent, the discussions are kept general for applications to physical problems when the sign problem does arise. We study the use of twisted boundary conditions to improve the extrapolation of the results to the thermodynamic limit. A strategy is proposed to drastically reduce finite size effects relying on a minimization among the twist angles. This approach is demonstrated by computing the charge gap at half-filling. We obtain accurate results showing the scaling of the gap with the interaction strength U, connecting to the scaling of the unrestricted Hartree-Fock method at small U and Bethe Ansatz exact result in one dimension at large U. A new algorithm is then proposed to compute dynamical Green functions and correlation functions which explicitly varies the number of particles during the random walks in the manifold of Slater determinants. In dilute systems, such as ultracold Fermi gases, this algorithm enables calculations with much more favorable complexity, with computational cost proportional to basis size or the number of lattice sites.
