The treatment of knee joint osteoarthritis with debridement arthroscopy

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect and methods in the treatment of knee joint osteoarthritic with debridement arthroscopy.Methods Among 1400 patients with knee joint osteoarthritic treated by debridement arthroscope from Apr.1990 to Jan.2003,660 patients with full therapeutic data were followed up by letters.Questionnaire designed privately included subjective satisfaction,pain VAS score,Tegner score,Lysholm score and WOMAC score.152 patients(male 31,female 121,mean age 59.2±11.7 from 45 to 75 years old,62 left knees and 90 right knees,average follow-up period 7.5±5.1 from 2.0 to 15.8 years) completed successfully and among them 78 patients got a clinic check up.Results The postoperative pain VAS score(100 for no pain),Tegner score,Lysholm score and WOMAC score were 69.14±20.69、2.38±1.91、71.13±21.18 and 19.13±14.40,respectively,compared with preoperative 36.37±23.79、1.36±1.62、44.11±22.25 and 42.45±20.88.There was a significant statistical difference for postoperative improvement.In subjective satisfaction 104 cases(68.4%) were satisfactory,35 cases(23.1%) were common and 13 cases(8.5%) were not satisfactory.Conclusions In general,relieving pain and improving functions and scores can be achieved in the treatment of knee joint osteoarthriticwith debridement arthroscopy,even if for medium and long term follow-up.Several evaluation methods,such assubjective satisfaction,ext.,provided more objective judgement for therapeutic effect.
