Abstract:The paper presents a high speed high precision data transmission system that solves the electromagnetic interference problem in wire data transmission of FOG performance measurements.Based on the RF chip with system grade,bidirectional wireless communication module is constructed.The system realizes high speed precision data transmission under electromagnetic interference environment.The FOG’s scale factor measurement indicates that the system has the feature of anti-electromagnetism,high speed and low error rate.

Abstract:An intra-chip wireless interconnect system using on-chip antennas and ultrawideband (UWB) radios that operates in 22-29 GHz is studied in this paper. The on-chip antennas are meander monopoles of axial length 1 mm in silicon technology. A unique wireless channel is formed between a pair of on-chip transmit and receive antennas. The channel is characterized up to an interconnect distance of 40 mm. The system performance is evaluated in terms of bit-error-rate (BER) under the assumptions of perfect system synchronization and signal corruption from thermal and switching noises. As expected, the system performance degrades with interconnect distance and data rate. It achieves a better BER on the 5-k¿.cm Si substrate than that on the 10-¿.cm Si substrate.

Abstract:Various RFID measurement metrics from several organizations have been proposed during the past decade. These metrics, however, are overlapped and conflicting each other. Consequently, how to select an appropriate RFID measurement metrics is a non-trivial job. To this end, we propose a metrics set in this paper by comparing existing metrics. The metrics set involves read speed, read distance, and power attenuation, which can identify the differences of RFID system performance. Measurement based on the metrics set can be highly automated, and easy to execute in anechoic champ. We have carried out extensive experiments and the results show that the recommended metrics set is proper as the performance benchmark metrics.

Abstract:The interference of Time Division Duplexing (TDD) noise on the speakers or receivers in wireless communication smart devices is investigated by simulation-measurement, which is used for magnetic field coupling experiments in low frequency conditions. The simulation is based on inductance theory and the design evaluation board is simplified for subsequent simulation. This method can be applied to more complex smart device boards. The interference source was analyzed and matched with the experimental results. The final simulation-measurement results are in good agreement, which verifies that the method can guide more complex motherboard-level design.

Abstract:IEEE 802.15 (TM) working group has designed the IEEE Std. 802.15.4 to target the low-rate wireless personal area network (LR-WPAN) which is characterized by low complexity, low cost and low power. The IEEE Std. 802.15.4 specifies operations of the physical layer (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) sublayer. These standards are to ensure acceptable system performance in terms of network PHY collisions, MAC collisions, throughput, average transmission delay, and energy efficiency. Yet there axe a number of factors that may affect the system performance, including beacon order (BO), backoff exponent (BE), contention window (CW), existence of hidden terminal problem, and existence of acknowledgement (ACK) mechanism. Understanding the impacts of these factors is of great importance in system design to improve performance. These impacts are examined numerically via network simulator (ns-2) in the current work, which leads to some nontrivial findings.

Abstract:A scheme for cheaply, easily, and accurately measuring the gains and radiation patterns of Wi-Fi-band antennas is presented. Considering the cost, size, and convenience, a high-gain microstrip Vivaldi antenna, based on anisotropic zero-index metamaterials, is used for the transmitter. A homodyne receiver is designed to simplify the receiver's architecture. Implementing an RF switch and a dual-polarized antenna, the design is also suitable for testing non-standard-polarization antennas. The proposed measurement system has been validated by comparing the results to a commercial measurement system.

Abstract:Using the self-designed embedded wireless network measurement and control platform as application object, this paper puts forward and takes three real-time measures improving system followed. The first step is to transplant μ C/OS-II, strong real-time operating system to improve the real-time response speed of the master node of the network center; the second step is to adopt the time-limited communication scheduling strategy of the nodes to reduce the waiting and delaying time of most nodes of the network. The third is to open the DuoCeiver mechanism to ensure that the urgent nodes are preferentially able to get service. The running results demonstrated these means are feasible and have effectively improved system's real-time capability.

Abstract:Energy consumption caused by wireless data transmission takes a significant part of the overall energy consumption of mobile devices, due to the popularity of Internet applications. There are many factors to influence energy consumption such as signal strength, data rate and so on. In this paper we proposed a system to measure the transmission energy consumption in Wi-Fi and 3G. We did some experiments to show the result, and the data in our research is correct to use in future work. As a result, we concluded the relationship between power and some important factors in Wi-Fi and 3G.

Abstract:In the past few years, a large range of wireless signals such as WiFi, RFID, UWB and Millimeter Wave were utilized for sensing purposes. Among these wireless sensing modalities, WiFi sensing attracts a lot of attention owing to the pervasiveness of WiFi infrastructure in our surrounding environments. While WiFi sensing has achieved a great success in capturing the target's motion information ranging from coarse-grained activities and gestures to fine-grained vital signs, it still has difficulties in precisely obtaining the target size owing to the low frequency and small bandwidth of WiFi signals. Even Millimeter Wave radar can only achieve a very coarse-grained size measurement. High precision object size sensing requires using RF signals in the extremely high-frequency band (e.g., Terahertz band). In this paper, we utilize low-frequency WiFi signals to achieve accurate object size measurement without requiring any learning or training. The key insight is that when an object moves between a pair of WiFi transceivers, the WiFi CSI variations contain singular points (i.e., singularities) and we observe an exciting opportunity of employing the number of singularities to measure the object size. In this work, we model the relationship between the object size and the number of singularities when an object moves near the LoS path, which lays the theoretical foundation for the proposed system to work. By addressing multiple challenges, for the first time, we make WiFi-based object size measurement work on commodity WiFi cards and achieve a surprisingly low median error of 2.6 mm. We believe this work is an important missing piece of WiFi sensing and opens the door to size measurement using low-cost low-frequency RF signals.

Abstract:We present an overview of the state-of-the-art over-the-air (OTA) measurements in reverberation chamber (RC) of wireless devices for the long term evolution (LTE) MIMO system based on our previous work. The measured throughput is well described by a simple and basic theoretical model based on an ideal threshold receiver, under different channel conditions and system configurations. Intuitive explanations to the measurement results are given. The reverberation chamber (RC) is shown to be an effective tool for active OTA tests, which extends its capabilities considerably compared to its original application for EMC tests.

Abstract:Y As one of the key features in 5G network, Millimeter wave (mmWave) technology can provide the ultra-wide bandwidth to support higher data rate. However. for high frequency band, mmWave signal still suffers from the high pathloss, the multipath fading and the signal blockage issue, especially in the indoor environment. For different application scenarios, the channel conditions and quality of services (QoS) are quite different. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the impact of the mmWave channel on the system performance. This paper investigates and measures the performance of a 60GHz mmWave module that is exploited for the downlink and uplink high data rate transmission in the Internet of Radio-Light (IoRL) project. The coverage area and the throughput of the mmWave module is estimated by measuring the error vector magnitude (EVM) of received signals with different transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) angles and at different locations in a laboratory. In this paper, the measurement environment and system setup are introduced, After that, the waveform design for the measurement is also discussed. The measurement results show that this 60GHz mmWave module can provide an acceptable performance only in some cases, which restricts its application scenarios.

Abstract:Combined with pulsed interrogation principle of resonant SAW wireless sensor system,based on the reader hardware system,the two main sources of error,which are local oscillator phase noise and ADC error are studied.The effects of the two main source errors on the system measurement uncertainty have been analyzed re-spectively,and each component has been synthesized.Quantitative analysis can be used as a guide to choose appro-priate parameters and improve the system hardware design,and the measurement performance can be enhanced greatly.

Abstract:In order to obtain the number of mobile devices WiFi on in some region ,a WiFi device sensing system based on MT7620A chipset and embedded operation system OpenWrt was designed .The principle how a mobile device was studied ,and then suitable hardware and software platform were chosen .After that ,the system was set to monitor mode .With the help of sniff pro ,probe requests from mobile devices were captured and media access control addresses were parsed .Implementation mechanism and key technology of the sensing system were elaborated ,which include the creation of swap partition on a U disk and the algorithm of how related data captured and saved .The experiment result shows that our system can capture Probe Request stably and is ease to use ,and it has some commercial value .

Abstract:Different from most other researches focused on wideband radio channel characteristics, this paper presents a large-scale field-test campaign with WCDMA-FDD system, whose system equipment configuration strictly conforms to the specifications of 3GPP R99 and requirements of C3G (China 3(rd) generation) mobile communication system. Three different areas in Beijing are tested, representing three kinds of typical urban propagation environment in China. Based on the ample measurement data such as multipath power delay profile, signal envelope fading and channel SIR (Signal-to-interference ratio), we classify the tested radio channels and analyze their channel characteristics in detail.
WiEps: Measurement of Dielectric Property with Commodity WiFi Device -- An application to Ethanol/Water Mixture

Abstract:WiFi signal has become accessible everywhere, providing high-speed data transmission experience. Besides the communication service, channel state information (CSI) of the WiFi signals is widely employed for numerous Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Recently, most of these applications are based on analysis of the microwave reflections caused by physical movement of the objective. In this paper, a novel contactless wireless sensing technique named WiEps is developed to measure the dielectric properties of the material, exploiting the transmission characteristics of the WiFi signals. In WiEps, the material under test is placed between the transmitter antenna and receiver antenna. A theoretical model is proposed to quantitatively describe the relationship between CSI data and dielectric properties of the material. During the experiment, the phase and amplitude of the transmitted WiFi signals are extracted from the measured CSI data. The parameters of the theoretical model are calculated using measured data from the known materials. Then, WiEps is utilized to estimate the dielectric properties of unknown materials. The proposed technique is first applied to the ethanol/water mixtures. Then, additional liquids are measured for further verification. The estimated permittivities and conductivities show good agreement with the actual values, with the average error of 4.0% and 8.9%, respectively, indicating the efficacy of WiEps. By measuring the dielectric property, this technique is promising to be applied to new IoT applications using ubiquitous WiFi signals, such as food engineering, material manufacturing process monitoring, and security check.

Measurement Methodology for Determining the Optimal Frequency Domain Configuration to Accurately Record WiFi Exposure Levels

Abstract:Radiofrequency fields are usually measured in order to be compared with electromagnetic exposure limits defined by international standardization organizations with the aim of preserving the human health. However, in the case of WiFi technology, accurate measurement of the radiation coming from user terminals and access points is a great challenge due to the nature of these emissions, which are noncontinuous signals transmitted in the form of pulses of short duration. Most of the methodologies defined up to now for determining WiFi exposure levels use or take as reference exposimeters, broadband probes, and spectrum analyzers without taking into account that WiFi signals are not continuously transmitted. This leads to an overestimation of the radiation level that cannot be considered negligible when data of the actual exposure are needed. To avoid this, other procedures apply empirical weighting factors that account for the actual duration of burst transmissions. However, this implies the implementation of additional measurements for calculating the weighting factors, and thus, increases the complexity of the work. According to this, it was still necessary to define the frequency domain measurement setup that is optimal for obtaining realistic WiFi signal values, without requiring the performance of additional recordings. Thus, the definition of an appropriate methodology to achieve this goal was established as the main objective of this paper. The set of tasks carried out to identify such a configuration, as well as the limitations obtained for other measurement settings, are deeply explained in this paper.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) is a collection of Internet connected devices capable of interacting with the physical world and computer systems. It is estimated that the IoT will consist of approximately fifty billion devices by the year 2020. In addition to the sheer numbers, the need for IoT security is exacerbated by the fact that many of the edge devices employ weak to no encryption of the communication link. It has been estimated that almost 70% of IoT devices use no form of encryption. Previous research has suggested the use of Specific Emitter Identification (SEI), a physical layer technique, as a means of augmenting bit-level security mechanism such as encryption. The work presented here integrates a Nelder-Mead based approach for estimating the Rayleigh fading channel coefficients prior to the SEI approach known as RF-DNA fingerprinting. The performance of this estimator is assessed for degrading signal-to-noise ratio and compared with least square and minimum mean squared error channel estimators. Additionally, this work presents classification results using RF-DNA fingerprints that were extracted from received signals that have undergone Rayleigh fading channel correction using Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) equalization. This work also performs radio discrimination using RF-DNA fingerprints generated from the normalized magnitude-squared and phase response of Gabor coefficients as well as two classifiers. Discrimination of four 802.11a Wi-Fi radios achieves an average percent correct classification of 90% or better for signal-to-noise ratios of 18 and 21 dB or greater using a Rayleigh fading channel comprised of two and five paths, respectively.

Abstract:With the fast development of communication techniques, over-the-air testing has developed into the main testing method for current communication systems due to its advantages including no cable connection, high measurement efficiency, and independence from environment. OTA testing has become almost the only solution for 5G system testing especially after the popularity of 5G massive multiple-input-multiple-output. In this paper, we summarize the three main methods of OTA testing including the reverberation chamber-based method, the radiation two-step method, and the multiprobe anechoic chamber- (MPAC-) based method, among which we focus on the MPAC method systematically. In the MPAC method, there are two main channel synthesis techniques that have been heavily studied, namely, prefaded signal synthesis and plane wave synthesis. We summarize the current main research based on these two techniques including probe configurations, probe selection algorithms, and probe design based on the PFS technique and the design of plane wave generators based on PWS technique. The main comparisons are made for the performance of different probe selection algorithms and the performance of different plane wave generators as well as the latest advances.
