Abstract:In this paper, under the exponential/polynomial decay condition in Fourier space, we prove that the nonlinear solution to the quasi-periodic Cauchy problem for the weakly nonlinear Schrödinger equation in higher dimensions will asymptotically approach the associated linear solution within a specific time scale. The proof is based on a combinatorial analysis method present through diagrams. Our results and methods apply to {\em arbitrary} space dimensions and general power-law nonlinearities of the form $\pm|u|^{2p}u$, where $1\leq p\in\mathbb N$.

Abstract:We prove the existence of periodic solutions in a class of nonlinear partial differential equations, including the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the nonlinear wave equation, and the nonlinear beam equation, in higher dimension. Our result covers cases of completely resonant equations, where the bifurcation equation is infinite-dimensional, such as the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with zero mass, for which solutions which at leading order are wave packets are shown to exist.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with a one dimensional (1D) derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation with periodic boundary conditions \begin{equation*} \mi u_t+u_{xx}+\mi |u|^2u_x=0, \ \ x\in \mathbb{T}:=\mathbb{R}/2\pi\mathbb{Z}. \end{equation*} We show that above equation admits a family of real analytic quasi-periodic solutions with two Diophantine frequencies. The proof is based on a partial Birkhoff normal form and KAM method.

Abstract:We consider a discrete non-linear Schrödinger equation on Z and show that, after adding a small potential localized in the time-frequency space, one can construct a three-parametric family of non-decaying spacetime quasiperiodic solutions to this equation. The proof is based on the Craig–Wayne–Bourgain method combined with recent techniques of dealing with Anderson localization for two-dimensional quasiperiodic operators with degenerate frequencies.

Abstract:In the present work we explore the potential of models of the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) type to support spatially localized and temporally quasiperiodic solutions on top of a finite background. Such solutions are rigorously shown to exist in the vicinity of the anti-continuum, vanishing coupling limit of the model. We then use numerical continuation to illustrate their persistence for finite coupling, as well as to explore their spectral stability. We obtain an intricate bifurcation diagram showing a progression of such solutions from simpler ones bearing single- and two-site excitations to more complex, multi-site ones with a direct connection of the branches of the self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinear regime. We further probe the variation of the solutions obtained towards the limit of vanishing frequency for both signs of the nonlinearity. Our analysis is complemented by exploring the dynamics of the solutions via direct numerical simulations.

Abstract:In this paper we study the following nonlinear Schrodinger equation {-Delta u+a(x)u=f(x,u), u epsilon H-1(R-N), where a is periodic with respect to x and f(x,u) is superlinear in u. Suppose that 0 lies in a gap of the spectrum sigma(-Delta+a). Without periodic assumption on f, we prove the existence of ground state solution for the system. Moreover, we obtain some sufficient conditions for the nonexistence of ground state solution.

Abstract:This is the first part of a two-paper series studying nonlinear Schrödinger equations with quasi-periodic initial data. In this paper, we consider the standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Under the assumption that the Fourier coefficients of the initial data obey a power-law upper bound, we establish local existence of a solution that retains quasi-periodicity in space with a slightly weaker Fourier decay. Moreover, the solution is shown to be unique within this class of quasi-periodic functions. In addition, for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with small nonlinearity, within the time scale, as the small parameter of nonlinearity tends to zero, we prove that the nonlinear solution converges asymptotically to the linear solution with respect to both the sup-norm $\|\cdot\|_{L_x^\infty(\mathbb R)}$ and the Sobolev-norm $\|\cdot\|_{H^s_x(\mathbb R)}$. The proof proceeds via a consideration of an associated infinite system of coupled ordinary differential equations for the Fourier coefficients and a combinatorial analysis of the resulting tree expansion of the coefficients. For this purpose, we introduce a Feynman diagram for the Picard iteration and $\ast^{[\cdot]}$ to denote the complex conjugate label.

Abstract:A direct approach for the quasi-periodic wave solutions to the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation is proposed based on the theta functions and Hirota's bilinear method. We transform the problem into a system of algebraic equations, which can be formulated into a least squares problem and then solved by using numerical iterative methods. A rigorous asymptotic analysis demonstrates that these solutions can be classified into two categories: quasi-periodic oscillatory waves and quasi-periodic dark solitons. Singular behaviors may arise in the former case. The numerical results obtained for both the ( 1 + 1 ) -dimensional and ( 2 + 1 ) -dimensional equations are consistent with the theoretical results. Additionaly, the system of algebraic equations can be further extended to address the Riemann–Schottky problem for hyperelliptic curves with 2 infinite points.

Abstract:The nonlinear Schr{\"o}dinger (NLS) equation, which incorporates higher-order dispersive terms, is widely employed in the theoretical analysis of various physical phenomena. In this study, we explore the non-commutative extension of the higher-order NLS (HNLS) equation. We treat real or complex-valued functions, such as and as non-commutative, and employ the Lax pair associated with the evolution equation as in the commutation case. We derive the quasi-Gramian solution of the system by employing a binary Darboux transformation (DT). extcolor[rgb]{0.50,0.00,0.00}{The soliton solutions are presented explicitly within framework of quasideterminants. In order to visually understand the dynamics and solutions in the given example, we also provide simulations illustrating the associated profiles.} Moreover, the solution can be used to study the stability of plane waves and to understand the generation of periodic patterns in the context of modulational instability.

Abstract:We propose a new variational approach to finding multiple critical points for strongly indefinite problems without assuming the weak upper semicontinuity on the variational functionals. By this approach, we obtain the existence of infinitely many geometrically distinct solutions for a stationary periodic Schrödinger equation, in which the linear part is strongly indefinite and the nonlinear term is allowed to change sign in general ways.

Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems

Abstract:A hierarchy of nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations is derived by using the Lenard gradients and the zero-curvature equation. According to the Lax matrix of the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations, we introduce a hyperelliptic Riemann surface of genus n , from which Dubrovin-type equations, meromorphic function, and Baker–Akhiezer function are established. By the theory of algebraic curves, the corresponding flows are straightened by resorting to the Abel–Jacobi coordinates. Finally, we obtain the explicit Riemann theta function representations of the Baker–Akhiezer function, specifically, that of solutions for the hierarchy of nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger equations in regard to the asymptotic properties of the Baker–Akhiezer function.
