Abstract:This paper aims at providing a system design of high-power bidirectional DCDC converter for electric vehicles application. Based on previous power-stage design, this paper focuses on control stage-design. The control loop consists of PWM loop and PFM loop to achieve high efficiency compared to traditional PFM only; The control mode consists of power-on mode and normal mode to achieve less overshoot when powering on. Functional blocks level, circuit level, and layout level designs are presented to illustrates the structure and operating of control-stage, especially the control core. Simulations of control IC design in SMIC180nm provide basic function and high performance verification.

Abstract:For the LCL filter adoptrd grid-connected inverter,when using weighted-average-current control method,there are the magnitude error and phase error at light load.And the forward feedback from the grid voltage makes the current under the influence of grid voltage.This paper proposes a new current control strategy using weighted-average-current as inner-loop and active/reactive current as out-loop.This method can control the grid current to have high magnitude and phase precision,also it will not be influenced by grid voltage.This paper presents the theoretical analysis and how to realize it.This control method has been experimentally tested on a 5kW grid-connected fuel cell inverter.

Abstract:The multilevel connected dc–dc converters system is considered a practical technology to increase the capacity and reduce voltage and current stresses on the power devices. In practice, mismatched parameters are inevitable, which increase the challenge of output voltage regulation and current sharing control. In order to conquer these difficulties, this article investigates the current sharing based on incremental passivity control for multilevel connected dc–dc converters. Combined with passivity-based control, a finite-time estimator is given to improve the robustness against the load variations. The proposed method results in a linear control law despite the bilinear nature of this system. Moreover, analysis exhibits that stability and current sharing are independent of inductor parameters. Furthermore, stability of the closed-loop system has been proved that the proposed approach is valid both for a linear and nonlinear load. After introducing the proposed control scheme, simulation and experiments are offered to validate its fast transit response and antidisturbance performance.

Abstract:Power electronic circuit is a switching system. And its continuous time variables mutually affect with discrete events, so it is also a typical hybrid system. Based on hybrid system theory, uniform hybrid system models are established for second-order DC-DC converters working under continuous current mode (CCM). Direct Method of Lyapunov is used to analyze stability of the system and a new sliding mode control strategy is derived. Simulation and experimental results on Boost converter are given to validate the strategy. A suggestion is presented for practical use. So comparing with the traditional averaged or linearized models, hybrid models can be more precise in theory because no approximation is introduced. It also helps to better analysis and control of power electronic system.
Nonlinear Average Current Control Using Partial Current Measurement

Abstract:This paper presents a nonlinear average current control method which regulates the true average of the inductor current by using the switch current as the feedback signal. The method is simple and requires no compensator design. Unlike existing average current control where the control bandwidth is limited to about one tenth of the switching frequency, the proposed control method has no limitation by the switching frequency and is very insensitive to switching noise. It combines the advantages of both peak current and linear average current control while overcoming their limitations. It can be used in both buck- and boost-derived topologies for a variety of applications requiring precise control of the input or output current, including battery charging using buck-derived topologies and power conditioning for solar and fuel cells using boost-derived topologies. Numerical simulation and experimental measurement results are presented along with theoretical development and analysis to demonstrate the operation principle and performance of the control method. Performance and general control characteristics of the method are also compared with existing linear average current control by using an averaged model. Switch current sensing methods for use with the control are also reviewed.

Abstract:Aim at disadvantage of average current sharing method,maximal current sharing method was suggested basing on average current sharing method,and simple controlling analysis were given.For carrying out the function of limiting spur track current,the complementary-auto choosing of voltage-circuit and limited current-circuit was suggested,and theoretic analysis was also given.The experiment result of two-modularize power supplies system indicates the effect of this control method.

Abstract:This paper proposes the theoretical analyses, design method, design process and design results of a high power bidirectional 48V-12V DCDC converter system in electric vehicle (EV) application. The design is divided into 3 levels that are topology level, control method level, and block level based on IC with 3 steps respectively. In topology level, full-bridge CLLC is chosen for its high efficiency and good stability. 8 stages are designed for full-bridge CLLC in one switching period. Topology design mainly focuses on determining resonant components by inherent frequency and quality factor. In control method level, FPD (Frequency, Phase shift, and Duty) influence the performance of the whole system in their own way and FPD control method is chosen for this system. In block level, a main control loop that consists of 3 interlaced loops is illustrated by functional blocks and achieved actually by IC design. The whole design is verified by analog IC simulation whose results confirm the basic function and expected performance of the system. The output voltage accuracy enters 0.1% range and efficiency is up to 99.15% in buck mode with full load. The performances of the converter system in other conditions are also competitive.
Multi-mode Control Strategy for Primary-Side Regulation System

Abstract:A multi-mode control strategy for primary-side regulation (PSR) system is presented. The idea uses four mode control strategy to improve the efficiency under variety load conditions. In addition, the usual peak current control mode is replaced by voltage control mode under standby condition. By this way, the pulse width of drive signal can be reduced regardless of the leading edge blanking time in the peak current control mode when the power switch turns on. Thus the standby power can be reduced when the system switching frequency remains the same as conventional system. The prototype is achieved by using CSMC 700V BCD technology. The experiment results show that the average efficiency is improved about 3.6% comparing with conventional system and the standby power is less than 10mW under different conditions.
A Compensation Strategy for Parallel System of Modular Active Power Filter Based on Real-time Average Current

Abstract:For the harmonic of large capacity nonlinear load,a parallel combinatorial system of modular active power filter is proposed and its system structure and operating principle are researched.Based on this,the corresponding small signal model is set up and a control strategy in the case of different module capacities is introduced for comparison.Then an average current control and redundancy control strategy is put forward.In order to guarantee the steady and dynamic performance,a compound control strategy including digital proportional-integral control and repetitive control is adopted.Finally,a device including two modular 50 kVA active power filters is constructed and the effects of different control strategies among modules and different control strategies inside modules are compared.The feasibility and efficiency of the proposed control strategy is validated by experimental results.

Abstract:SummaryPrimary‐side regulation (PSR) flyback converter is widely used in small power applications. To increase the output power, continuous conduction modulation mode is always introduced. In this paper, a simple average current control method with very low cost is proposed for constant current controlled PSR flyback converter in both continuous conduction modulation mode and discontinuous conduction modulation mode. The average current control method is realized with time‐length equality by simply comparing the average current with switch current, such that analog‐to‐digital converter for current sampling in traditional average current control method is removed. In addition, to eliminate the subharmonic oscillation and keep low cost, a fixed switch‐off time control with time‐length compensation algorithm is used. To improve the output current accuracy, a hysteretic multimode control method is applied. The total control requires very low implementation costs that only contain a low‐speed Digital to analog converter (DAC), three comparators, and a digital controller. The performance of the proposed control method is experimentally verified on an Field‐progrannable gate array (FPGA) controlled 3.8 to 16 V/3.8 A PSR flyback converter. In experiments, stable control and high output current accuracy are obtained, and the output current accuracy is within ±1.8% under universe line voltage and output load.

Abstract:In this article, dual-active-bridge (DAB) dc–dc converter with phase shift control is explored extensively, and optimal performances obtained with different objectives are comparatively analyzed in each mode. First, the principle and operating modes of TPS control are introduced in detail. Second, the electrical characteristics of the converter in each operating mode are systematically derived. Third, resonant commutation in each dead-band is analyzed, and soft-switching areas of the converter are obtained. Then, based on zero-voltage switching (ZVS), peak, and root mean square (rms) of the inductor current, backflow power and operating losses are taken as optimization objectives, and the obtained optimized results are contrastively analyzed. The commonalities of the optimization results with different objectives in modes I–III are revealed, and the differences in optimization characteristic in mode IV are present, as a guidance for practice design and operation. Experiments are performed to demonstrate the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:Higher power applications require a multilevel converter to meet high power ratings. A multimodule current-source converter (CSC) can provide a multilevel current waveforms and at the same time eliminate the bulky transformer at the ac side. However, it is required for the multimodule CSC to use multiple dc-link inductors for the purpose of power balance among different modules. Thus, one key issue in the design of the multimodule CSC is to balance the current through different dc-link inductors. This paper focuses on studying the control strategy of the multimodule CSC and a generalized current balancing method is presented. As presented, zero vectors are distributed based on the deviation of the dc-link inductor currents and the comparison of the capacitor voltages. Therefore, the current imbalance problems, not only those among the upper inductors but also those among the lower inductors are solved. Moreover, since the current balancing algorithm is not dependent on module numbers, the presented control strategy is very suitable for modularization. Especially, with the feedback of the capacitor voltages, the resonance arising from the inductor-capacitor (LC) filter is damped. In addition, a design method of the dc-link inductors is also derived. Finally, simulation and experimental results show the validity of the propositions.

Abstract:Multi-level dual-active-bridge (DAB) DC-DC converters offer higher voltage-blocking capability and larger stepup ratios, as well as increased number of degrees of freedom (DoFs) compared to the traditional two-level DAB converter. Thus, it has potential to be used in medium-voltage DC (MVDC) systems. However, the control complexity of the multi-level DAB converters also increases along with the number of DoFs. When soft-switching is considered as an optimization objective together with other performance indices (e.g., peak or root-mean-square values of the inductor current), the analytical solutions will be difficult to derive due to the increased number of control variables and complicated soft-switching constraints. To address this issue and improve the efficiency of the DAB converter, this paper proposes a control strategy for a multi-level DAB converter to achieve both soft-switching and minimum current stress simultaneously. The analytical solutions are calculated by improved Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions, where the numerical solutions are used to locate the operating modes and determine the zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) boundaries. This can simplify the Lagrangian function and inequality constraints, and then, the analytical solutions can be obtained by the simplified KKT conditions. In addition, a comprehensive comparison between the quasi-ZVS and strict-ZVS control is carried out, so that the converter efficiency, implementation complexity, and smooth transition between different power levels can be compromised for practical applications. Finally, the performances of the proposed control strategy in terms of current stress minimization and softswitching operation are validated by experimental tests.

Abstract:The DC-bus voltage self-regulating of Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) is not only critical to compensation performance, but also to the safe operation. Traditional controller, e. g. P or PI, has disadvantages for these applications. Regarding the popular shunt HAPF with passive and active filters in serial connected, this paper presents a novel controller for the DC-bus voltage self-maintaining. The control model based on equilibrium of instantaneous power theory is established, simplified and analyzed in details, and then the pole-zero placement method is adopted to design the novel controller. Compared to PI controller, it can improve dynamic performance greatly as load and/or grid voltage changes. The feasibility and validity of the DC-bus voltage controller is verified through a prototype design using MATLAB/Simulink.

Abstract:In electric vehicle (EV) systems, bi-directional DC/DC converters are applied to interface the battery bank with the high voltage DC-link of the inverter. The control of the DC-link voltage is important for the high performance of the system. A DC-link voltage control strategy for the bidirectional DC/DC converter is proposed, which eliminates the need for detecting the operating mode and do not need to change the control loop when the modes transfer between the motor driving mode and the regenerative braking mode. The dynamic model of the bi-directional DC/DC converter with the constant power load is built. Afterward design of the proposed control is presented. Finally, a prototype is built to validate the proposed DC-link voltage control strategy and evaluate the dynamic performance.
A High-Performance PWM Controller with Adjustable Current Limit

Abstract:A high-performance pulse width modulation (PWM) controller with adjustable current limit technique, which is suitable for peak-current-mode (PCM) DC-DC converters, especially in high-power application, is proposed in this paper to guarantee converters work properly. In order to realize high-performance analog circuit with smaller size in high-power application, a novel control method with concept of relative ground is introduced in the proposed PWM controller. Besides, compared with conventional PCM DC-DC converters, the change of peak current limit with the change of duty cycle is greatly decreased through a special strategy. The proposed high-performance PWM controller has been validated with 0.6-μm CD process based on a monolithic current-mode BUCK converter capable of driving up to 3A loads with supply voltage from 4.5 to 23V. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed PWM controller can guarantee the BUCK converter operating properly.

Abstract:Abstract This paper mainly studies the dual-loop control algorithm based on peak current mode. The working principle and system structure of the step-down switching power supply are introduced. The system uses PWM modulation and peak current mode to design the converter, and simulates its function in MTALAB/simulink. The result shows that the step-down circuit can basically realize the expected function, with high conversion efficiency and stable output voltage.

Abstract:This paper describes a control method based on fuzzy logic control and average current-mode control(ACMC) for DC-DC converters in cell inverter system.A large-signal model is presented in this paper,which is more accurate than averaging small-signal model.Modeling,design and regulation processes are discussed in this paper.Matlab is used to build the plant and control system for an actual fuel cell system.By using this control strategy,the system can regulate the output voltage with a satisfactory subject to load changes.Simulation results also support the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:An average current mode controlled single-inductor dual-output (SIDO) buck converter is presented. The outputs are specified with 1.2 V/400 mA and 1.8 V/200 mA. The proposed decoupling model helps to analyze the multi-loop system and to design the on-chip compensators. The converter has been fabricated in 0.25-mum mixed-signal process. Simulation and measurement results confirm the proposed analysis. The power efficiency is 86% at a total output power of 840 mW while the output ripples are about 40 mV at an oscillator frequency of 600 KHz.
