Abstract:Grid computing is becoming a mainstream technology for large-scale distributed resource sharing and system integration. In grid environment, everything can be regarded as a grid service. Workflow technology has grown to be an important method to manage processes and resource. Building a distributed workflow management system (WFMS) based on grid services brings many attractive characteristics such as great efficiency, higher fault tolerant ability, good load balancing and reliability etc. This paper presents the architecture of s-WFMS, a service-based workflow management system in grid environment. In s-WFMS, most functional components of a WFMS are abstracted and evolved to high-level grid services. A feasible implementation method of the architecture is also presented.

Abstract:Along with the extensive application of network and information technologies in enterprises, Dispersed Network Manufacturing (DNM) is becoming one of the most important manufacturing modes. Because of the obvious dispersed characteristic of the network manufacturing, the workflow management system will be greatly applied in the enterprise business and will become one of the most necessary supporting tools. However, the traditional workflow management systems are far from satisfactory. Especially under the network and dispersed environment, the traditional systems cannot satisfy the special requirements of the DNM. As a result, a new workflow management system for networked manufacturing based on mobile and collaboration technologies (k-WMFS) is presented in the paper. The architecture, features and key technologies of the system are discussed in the paper. The system can help us to improve the working efficiency, track and manage the executing process of cooperative work effectively under the DNM.

Abstract:In modern society, flexible workflow is necessary for enterprises which will enable them to keep up with market variations and new technologies quickly, and to improve the whole efficiency of the enterprise. Firstly, this paper presents a formal application model of flexible process for Flexible Workflow Management System (or FWMS in short). Then, we describe the prototype in detail and give the architecture and functional modules of it. Moreover, the prototype is implemented practically with Struts, Hibernate software framework as a web application. We also give a flexible homework assignment system as a application of the prototype system which can support personalized homework assignments and communications.

Abstract:The combination of workflow technologies and software application systems is one of the research directions in computer application area. On the basis of researches of workflow technology, a Web based Workflow System (WebWFS), which is based on script interpreter and is independent of application data, is presented. OOD method is used in workflow engine and a description language based on the script and a IIS Filter are discussed. In order to verify the adaptability of WebWFS, a example which is a plan management module of MIS is presented for analyzing the process of application of WebWFS. The conclusion is that WebWFS is reusable and flexible.

Abstract:Workflow management is one of the key features of distributed collaborative modeling and simulation environment(DCMSE),which is mainly used to assign and manage user tasks and promote the collaboration between users.Several core technologies of workflow management are discussed in this paper,including the structure of workflow,flow driving method,data transfer method,user interaction and so on.An object-oriented design based on OMG workflow management facility specification is introduced.The design introduced in this paper supports soft workflow structure.Serial,parallel,feedback flow patterns and their combination are allowed to use.This design also supports sub-flows with unlimited levels.Graphic workflow interface design is also introduced.

Abstract:Since numerous large-scale scientific applications executed on Grids are expressed as complex scientific workflows, workflow management has appeared as one of the most important service in Grid environment in past few years. However, most of the management systems do not fully hide the complexity of the underlying orchestration language. Meanwhile, Grid environment is dynamic when each scientist involves in different requirements to submit their computational jobs to heterogeneous executing environment. Therefore, in order to solve the issues of complexity, heterogeneity and dynamism, in this paper we developed Application- objected Workflow Management System based on Abstract Service. The Abstract Service is an abstract combination service for a group web service with similar function. And we presented Service Center, which contains a large number of abstract services to form a virtual uniform view to shield the diversity among various web services. We also developed a visual workflow designer, which allows scientists to orchestrate an abstract workflow by just dragging or dropping the graphical representations of abstract services to (or from) the canvas. Especially, the Requirement Description Document (RDD) was proposed to describe the special demands of individual computational jobs in XML grammar. And we implemented a Workflow Application Management System (WFAMS), which translates abstract workflow in well-defined order to concrete workflow, and manages, controls and decomposes the workflow, and then combines the scientist’s relational data and submits workflow to job pool in Grid platform. Finally, the solutions to the key problems in the workflow management system are considered, including the definition of abstract workflow, the mechanism to support failure handling, the workflow template and the mechanism to isolate the control flow and data flow.

Abstract:The traditional document management of field archaeology is mainly based on the handicraft operation. Geographic informationsystem for field archaeology based on workflow enables users to manage the design document and workflow scientifically, which isbenefit to improve scientific level and work efficiency. The system based on client/server structure has many functions, such as workflowcustomization、document query and management, workflow supervision, function control and so on. The client design and the serverdesign of the system are introduced briefly, and the application of workflow in the field archaeology is proven using a case of nationalcriterion.

Workflow management makes the dependencies between individual steps of a workflow and their computational requirements explicit, such that entire workflows can be executed in a stand-alone manner. Though the use of workflow management is widely recommended in the interest of transparency, reproducibility and data preservation, choosing among the large variety of available workflow management tools can be overwhelming. Abstract:Referring to capability maturity model and rational unified process, this paper presents a new idea of managing software development processes, in which the software development processes provided by rational unified process are used as process templates and the workflow management system is regarded as a software development environment.
