Abstract:Methods toward the dimerization and homocoupling of terminal alkynes have been established that employ Co complexes along with tBuOK under different atmosphere. A variety of Z-1,3-enynes were furnished with a high Z:E (up to 93:7) ratio in moderate to very good yields under inert atmosphere. Alternatively, the Glaser homocoupling reaction of terminal alkynes was also accomplished with a Co catalyst, successfully affording various 1,3-diynes in excellent yields (up to 93%) under oxygen.

Abstract:Homocoupling of terminal alkynes is an effective approach for the synthesis of 1,3-diyne, which is an important building block for numerous fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. However, this reaction frequently encounters difficulties in catalyst recovery, and requires the addition of base or organic ligands, limiting their practical applications. Herein, we developed an efficient and recyclable CuPd bimetallic nanoalloy catalyst, which exhibited superior activity and selectivity in the homocoupling of terminal alkynes under mild conditions without any additives. In contrast to the low activity of monometallic Cu or Pd catalysts, a full conversion with a 100% selectivity for 1,3-diyne was achieved on bimetallic Cu 2 Pd 1 -400 nanoalloy with an extremely high activity. The comprehensive characterizations clearly evidenced that the alloying Cu with Pd was found to perturb the Cu electronic structure, and the positively charged Cu on the step and edge sites of CuPd nanoalloy catalyzed the homocoupling reaction via Cu-acetylide intermediates, and the density functional theory calculations revealed that the desorption of 1,3-diyne on CuPd nanoalloy was the rate-determining step for the whole reaction. This work provides a viable strategy for the rational design and fabrication of other nanoalloy catalysts for the green synthesis related to terminal alkyne oxidation.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:Two different terminal alkynes now can be coupled together in the presence of NiCl2 center dot 6H(2)O/Cul by using an excess of one of the terminal alkyne substrates. The new method employed 20 mol % TMEDA as the ligand and environmentally benign O-2 or air as the oxidant. It is the first example using Ni-salt as catalyst by employing air or O-2 as oxidant, which led to efficient heterocoupling of two different alkynes.

Abstract:Oxidative couplings of aliphatic alkynes are crucial for the production of naturally occurring 1,3-diynes. Herein we report the novel approach for effective synthesis of unsaturated coordinated N doped copper oxides (N-CuO x ) catalyst, and uncover that N-CuO x catalyst as an additive-free and cost-effective heterogeneous catalyst has highly catalytic performance for directly oxidative coupling of aliphatic alkynes. The key to achieve efficient oxidative coupling of aliphatic alkynes is the synergistic effect of N species and uncoordinated O/Cu species caused by N dopants, which undergoes the Langmuir-Hinshelwood reaction mechanism. The N-CuO x catalyst displays ∼ 89.1% yield for hexadeca-7,9-diyne under mild conditions and stable reusability (5 cycles), showing significant advances compared with the traditionally copper oxides. These findings highlight the heteroatom dopants that provide a new methodology for designing efficient copper catalysts in synthesis of naturally occurring 1,3-diynes.

Abstract:The 1,3-conjugated diynes are an important class of chemical intermediates, and the selective crosscoupling of terminal alkynes is an efficient chemical process for manufacturing asymmetrical 1,3-conjugated diynes. However, it often occurs in homogenous conditions and costs a lot for reaction treatment. Herein, a copper catalyzed strategy is used to synthesize highly ordered mesoporous nitrogen-doped carbon material (OMNC), and the copper species is in situ transformed into the copper single-atom site with four nitrogen coordination (CuN4 ). These features make the CuN4 /OMNC catalyst efficient for selective oxidative crosscoupling of terminal alkynes, and a wide range of asymmetrical and symmetrical 1,3-diynes (26 examples) under mild conditions (40 °C) and low substrates ratio (1.3). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the aryl-alkyl crosscoupling has the lowest energy barrier on the CuN4 site, which can explain the high selectivity. In addition, the catalyst can be separated and reused by simply centrifugation or filtration. This work can open a facile avenue for constructing single-atom loaded mesoporous materials to bridge homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract:In this work, we demonstrated Ni-catalyzed oxidative coupling of unactivated C(sp(3))-H bonds with terminal alkynes for construction of C(sp(3))-C(sp) bonds to synthesize alkyl-substituted internal alkynes. Different amides exhibited good compatibility. Preliminary mechanistic studies were conducted to account for this alkynylation.

Abstract:A Cu(I)-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of terminal alkynes and bis(trimethylsilyl)diazomethane is reported. Mechanistically, the reaction is based on the recently developed cross-coupling reactions through metal-carbene migratory insertion. This reaction provides an efficient synthetic method for 1,1-disilyl allenes. Subsequent transformations of 1,1-disilyl allenes are investigated, which show diverse reactivities of these allenes.

Abstract:Asymmetric 1,3-diynes are a common structure motif but remain challenging to prepare from terminal alkynes using Glaser-Hay reactions. Alternative approaches rely on halogenated alkynes, expensive catalysts, or large excess of one reagent to overcome these challenges. We report greener options to prepare asymmetric diynes using a Glaser-Hay type reaction with mixed copper catalysts. Oxygen is employed as a sustainable oxidant to avoid the need for stoichiometric copper. We also show halogenated and toxic solvents can be completely replaced with the sustainable solvent ethyl acetate. The choice of base plays an important role in the reaction as it serves to both deprotonate alkynes and as a ligand for copper.
