Abstract:In this paper, a nonperiodic discrete nonlinear equation with Jacobi operators is considered. By using the critical point theory, we establish some new sufficient conditions on the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic solutions. Recent results are generalized and significantly improved. Furthermore, our results greatly improve some existing ones even for some special cases. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:The existence of three solutions for nonlinear operator equations is established via index theory for linear self-adjoint operator equations, critical point reduction method, and three critical points theorems obtained by Brezis-Nirenberg, Ricceri, and Averna-Bonanno. Applying the results to second-order Hamiltonian systems satisfying generalized periodic boundary conditions or Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions and elliptic partial differential equations satisfying Dirichlet boundary value conditions, we obtain some new theorems concerning the existence of three solutions.

Abstract:In this paper we study the following nonperiodic second order Hamiltonian system−u¨(t)+L(t)u(t)=∇uR(t,u),∀t∈R, where L(t) may not be uniformly positive definite for all t∈R, and R(t,u) is asymptotically quadratic in u as |u|→∞. By applying a generalized linking theorem in Bartsch and Ding (2006) [8], we obtain the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic orbits for the above system.

Abstract:Some new existence theorems for homoclinic solutions are obtained for a class of second-order discrete p -Laplacian systems by critical point theory, a homoclinic orbit is obtained as a limit of 2 kT -periodic solutions of a certain sequence of the second-order difference systems. Equation (0.1) is related to proper affine hyperspheres. We will show the existence of solutions of (0.1) u∈C∞(Ω)∩C(Ω¯) via regularization method. Using the technique in [10], [12], we also obtain the optimal graph regularity of the solution of (0.1).

Abstract:We deal with the non-autonomous parameter-dependent second-order differential equation δ ( v ′ 1 − ( v ′ ) 2 ) ′ + q ( t ) f ( v ) = 0 , t ∈ R , driven by a Minkowski-curvature operator. Here, δ > 0 , q ∈ L ∞ ( R ) , f : [ 0 , 1 ] → R is a continuous function with f ( 0 ) = f ( 1 ) = 0 = f ( α ) for some α ∈ ] 0 , 1 [ , f ( s ) < 0 for all s ∈ ] 0 , α [ and f ( s ) > 0 for all s ∈ ] α , 1 [ . Based on a careful phase-plane analysis, under suitable assumptions on q we prove the existence of strictly increasing heteroclinic solutions and of homoclinic solutions with a unique change of monotonicity. Then, we analyze the asymptotic behavior of such solutions both for δ → 0 + and for δ → + ∞ . Some numerical examples illustrate the stated results.

Abstract:In this paper, we mainly establish the existence of at least three non-trivial solutions for a class of nonhomogeneous quasilinear elliptic systems with Dirichlet boundary value or Neumann boundary value in a bounded domain $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^N $ and $N\geq 1$. We exploit the method which is based on [6]. This method let us obtain the concrete open interval about the parameter $\lambda$. Since the quasilinear term depends on $u$ and $\nabla u$, it is necessary for our proofs to use the theory of monotone operators and the skill of adding one dimension to space.

The proofs are done under suitable assumptions on the Hamiltonian, and based on the local linking theorem and a multiple critical points theorem of the critical point theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we delve into a discrete nonlinear singular semipositone problem, characterized by a nonlinear boundary condition. The nonlinearity, given by f(u)−auα with α>0, exhibits a singularity at u=0 and tends towards −∞ as u approaches 0+. By constructing some suitable auxiliary problems, the difficulty that arises from the singularity and semipositone of nonlinearity and the lack of a maximum principle is overcome. Subsequently, employing the Krasnosel'skii fixed-point theorem, we determine the parameter range that ensures the existence of at least one positive solution and the emergence of at least two positive solutions. Furthermore, based on our existence results, one can obtain the symmetry of the solutions after adding some symmetric conditions on the given functions by using a standard argument.

Abstract:In this paper, we first prove some propositions of Sobolev spaces defined on a locally finite graph G=(V,E), which are fundamental when dealing with equations on graphs under the variational framework. Then we consider a nonlinear biharmonic equationΔ2u−Δu+(λa+1)u=|u|p−2u on G=(V,E). Under some suitable assumptions, we prove that for any λ>1 and p>2, the equation admits a ground state solution uλ. Moreover, we prove that as λ→+∞, the solutions uλ converge to a solution of the equation{Δ2u−Δu+u=|u|p−2u,inΩ,u=0,on∂Ω, where Ω={x∈V:a(x)=0} is the potential well and ∂Ω denotes the boundary of Ω.
