Abstract:Existing studies in the literature to date on the English translation of Lun Yu are mostly on the linguistic level.Few scholars have probed into the relationship between the English translation of Lun Yu and the transmission and succession of the Chinese culture.Taking Waley's version of The Analects as a sample and based on the theory of the manipulation of ideology,this study makes further explorations in the misinterpretation and mistranslation in the English translation of Chinese classics.The research findings are as follows:1.The misinterpretation and mistranslation in the English translation of Chinese classics are closely connected to ideology;2.When interpreting and translating meanings in a foreign culture,translators should treat them with caution;3.Scholars working on Confucianism and translation studies should work together in the transmission and succession of the excellent traditional Chinese culture so as to make Confucianism known to the world.
