Abstract:A new procedure for N-arylation of aryl dichlorides with a sulfoximine, utilizing a palladium-catalyzed microwave-assisted reaction, has been developed. Only the monosulfonimidoyl arenes were obtained in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:An iridium(III)-catalyzed ortho-C(sp(2))-H amidation of O-methyl ketoximes with sulfonamides has been accomplished under mild conditions. This protocol can be successfully applied to a broad scope of oxime substrates and works well with a range of aryl- and alkylsulfonamides.

Abstract:We report a microwave-assisted synthetic protocol for the C-S cross-coupling reaction of aryl iodides and 8-mercaptoadenine using CuI and n-Bu4NBr with NaOt-Bu in DMF. The method is rapid, simple, and cost efficient, and leads in high yields to biologically relevant aryl sulfides.

Abstract:An efficient synthesis of novel fused heterocycles has been established via microwave-assisted palladium-catalyzed intramolecular direct arylation. The acyclic aryl bromides are readily available from microwave-assisted one-pot annulation of N-(2-bromobenzyl)-2-aminophenois and ethyl 2-bromoalkanoates. The intramolecular direct arylation is then performed in the presence of palladium(II) acetate and dppf (10 mol% each) in toluene using potassium carbonate (2 equiv) as the base under microwave heating (150 degrees C, 1 h) to afford the products in 43-99% yields. Steric effect is observed for Ar-Ar bond formation, giving a substantial amount of the debromination byproduct.

Abstract:Palladium-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling or aryl halides is widely employed in the synthesis of many important molecules in synthetic chemistry, including pharmaceuticals, polymers and functional materials. Herein, we disclose the first palladium-catalyzed decarbonylative Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of amides for the synthesis of biaryls through the selective activation of the N-C(O) bond of amides. This new method relies on the precise sequence engineering of the catalytic cycle, wherein decarbonylation occurs prior to the transmetallation step. The reaction is compatible with a wide range of boronic acids and amides, providing valuable biaryls in high yields (>60 examples). DFT studies support a mechanism involving oxidative addition, decarbonylation and transmetallation and provide insight into high N-C(O) bond activation selectivity. Most crucially, the reaction establishes the use of palladium catalysis in the biaryl Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of the amide bond and should enable the design of a wide variety of cross-coupling methods in which palladium rivals the traditional biaryl synthesis from aryl halides and pseudohalides.

Abstract:A palladium‐catalyzed α‐arylation reaction of unactivated sulfones with aryl chlorides is presented. High reactivity and chemoselectivity was achieved with a combination of Buchwald's 2 nd generation palladium precatalyst and Kwong's indole‐based phosphine ligand. A variety of aryl chlorides and aryl methyl sulfones were coupled in good to excellent yields. A gram‐scale arylation was also successfully conducted. Chemoselective arylation of the sulfone was observed over Buchwald–Hartwig amination.

Abstract:The rapid and efficient direct C2-arylation of free (NH)-indoles with arylsulfinic acids proceeded through a microwave-accelerated palladium-catalyzed desulfitation reaction. By using PdCl2 as a catalyst, silver acetate as an oxidant, and H2SO4 as an additive, arylsulfinic acids with both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups underwent desulfitative coupling with an array of free (NH)-indoles, thereby selectively providing C2-arylindoles in good yields.

The reaction is carried out by sequential coupling-imination-annulation reactions of ortho-bromoarylaldehydes and terminal alkynes with ammonium acetate, and a variety of substituted isoquinolines, furopyridines, and thienopyridines is prepared in moderate to excellent yields (up to 86%).

Abstract:An efficient and rapid method was developed for the synthesis of 1-aryl-2-(trimethylsilyl)acetylene. Copper and palladium-catalyzed sonogashira-type coupling of trimethylsilylacetylene and aryl bromides or iodides in the presence of triethylamine as base under microwave irradiation in acetonitrile afforded the desired 1-aryl-2-(trimethylsilyl)acetylene. The use of microwave was found to significantly improve the reaction yield and shorten the reaction time.

Abstract:An alternative method for synthesis of biaryls has been developed through the Pd catalyzed desulfitative coupling reaction of sodium arylsulfinates with aryl bromides and chlorides. The procedure tolerates a variety of functional groups, such as cyano, formyl, acetyl, chloro, methoxy, trifluoromethyl and heteroaromatic unit. The desired products were obtained in moderate to excellent yields under relatively mild reaction conditions without additives, base or co-catalyst.

Abstract:A general and direct N-arylation of sulfonamides and NH-sulfoximines by sodium arylsulfinates through a desulfitative pathway was herein demonstrated. The reaction proceeded with catalytic loadings of Cu(II)-catalysts without any external ligands. And the novel arylation protocol featured for high efficiency (up to 93% yields) and good substituent tolerance (up to 53 examples). Moreover, a plausible reaction mechanism was also discussed.

Abstract:A Pd(II)-catalyzed direct arylation of NH-sulfoximines and sulfonamides with arylhydrazines hydrochlorides was herein demonstrated without participation of any organic ligands under mild conditions. The oxidative methodology afforded a smooth routine toward N-aryl sulfoximines and sulfonamides with high efficiency (up to 93% yields) and broad functional groups tolerance (up to 40 examples) through a denitrogenative pathway. The protocol was proposed to take place through the free radical pathway based on the results of control reactions and literature explorations.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed direct C-H arylation of various imidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles with a range of aryl bromides under microwave irradiation is described. 6-Phenyl substituted imidazo[2,1-b]thiazoles could be regioselectively C-5 arylated using the developed protocol. The utility of this method enables the representative coupling product to be achieved by a sequential one-pot reaction. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that this arylation proceeds via a concerted metalation-deprotonation (CMD) pathway, which is in agreement with our experimental results. This work provides a convenient access to a variety of biologically active imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole derivatives. Also, it enriches the mechanism study of site-selective C-H arylation in fused heterocycles, and offers a valuable guide to design highly efficient catalytic systems for the preparation of similar compounds.
