Abstract:Purpose:To orient the activated charge regions in central nerve system under the situation with premature contacts on posterior teeth, and that would be the theoretical supports to consummate the theories of modulation in stomatognathic system. Methods:Fifteen volunteers with normal occlusion participated in the study. Before examination, some premature contacts made of composite resin were put on the posterior teeth of volunteers.GE Signa VH/i 3.0T magnetic resonance machine was used to make images of clenching in intercuspal occlusion with or with out premature contacts. The data were analyzed by SPM2 to find out the difference between them. Results: Localization of activated regions during normal clenching on ICP in group analysis were precentral gyrus M1,postcentral gyrus S1,premotor area, prefrontal cortex, insula,Broca's area, supramarginal gyrus, cerebellum, cingulate gyrus, parietal cortex(right) and occipital cortex(right).Localization of activated regions during clenching on ICP with premature contact on posterior tooth in group analysis were: precentral gyrus M1,postcentral gyrus S1,premotor area, prefrontal cortex, insula,Broca's area, supramarginal gyrus, temporal cortex(left),parietal cortex(right) and cerebellum(right). Conclusion:It was revealed the localization of activated regions during clenching on normal ICP and on ICP with premature contact on posterior tooth. The significant differences between them were also found out,and it was suggested that the premature contact was a inhibitor to the activation of charge regions in central nerve system.
