Abstract:Two kinds of iterative methods are designed to solve the linear system of equations, we obtain a new interpretation in terms of a geometric concept. Therefore, we have a better insight into the essence of the iterative methods and provide a reference for further study and design. Finally, a new iterative method is designed named as the diverse relaxation parameter of the SOR method which, in particular, demonstrates the geometric characteristics. Many examples prove that the method is quite effective.

Abstract:A family of new iteration methods without employing derivatives is proposed in this paper. We have proved that these new methods are quadratic convergence. Their efficiency is demonstrated by numerical experiments. The numerical experiments show that our algorithms are comparable to well-known methods of Newton and Steffensen. Furthermore, combining the new method with bisection method we construct another new high-order iteration method with nice asymptotic convergence properties of the diameters (bn − an).

Abstract:Geometric iterative method, also called progressive-iterative approximation (PIA), is an iterative method with clear geometric meaning. Just by adjusting the control points of curves or surfaces iteratively, the limit curve or surface will interpolate (approximate) the given data point set. In this paper, we introduce the geometric iterative method in two aspects, i.e., theory and application. In theory, we present the iterative formats of the interpolatory and approximating geometric iteration methods, respectively, show their convergence and local property, and develop the accelerating techniques. Moreover, some successful applications of the geometric iterative methods are demonstrated, including adaptive data fitting, large scale data fitting, symmetric surface fitting, generation of the curve interpolating given positions, tangent vectors, and curvature vectors, generation of the quadrilateral and hexahedral mesh with guaranteed quality, and generation of the trivariate B-spline solid, etc.

Abstract:In this paper the applications of equilibrium equation to geometric modeling is exploited and efficient numerical algorithms are proposed for solving the equilibrium equation. First we show that from diverse geometric modeling applications the equilibrium system can be extracted as the central framework. Second, by exploiting in-depth the special structures inherent in the geometric applications, we present simplified analytic solutions to the resulting geometric equilibrium equations via system decomposition. Finally, given the observation that the geometric equilibrium systems are extremely sensitive to both perturbations in input data and round off errors, efficient, stable and accurate numerical algorithms are proposed.

Abstract:Nonlinear phenomena occur in diverse fields such as science, engineering and business. Research within computational science is continuously advancing, characterized by the development of new numerical techniques or the refinement of existing ones. However, these numerical techniques may be computationally expensive, while demonstrating superior convergence rate. By considering these demanding features, this paper aimed to devise new fourth- and eight-order iterative methods for root finding. This will be accomplished by taking the linear combination of Newton–Steffensen's method and Yu and Xu's method to obtain fourth-order method. We employed weight function approach to achieve eighth-order method. The proposed methods supports the Kung and Traub conjecture and hence are optimal by utilizing three function evaluations for fourth-order method and four functional evaluations for eighth-order method per cycle. The convergence criteria of the proposed schemes are thoroughly covered in the two primary theorems. To demonstrate the usefulness, validity and accuracy, we explore some real-world applications in civil and chemical engineering fields. In terms of the number of iterations, absolute residual errors, errors in consecutive iterations, the preassigned tolerance, convergence speed, percentage of convergent points, mean value of iterations for methods to converge and CPU time (sec), the numerical results obtained from the test examples illustrates that our proposed methods perform better than other methods of same order. Finally, several forms of complex functions are taken into consideration under basins of attraction in order to observe the overall fractal behavior of the proposed technique and some existing methods.

Abstract:In this paper we propose some iterative algorithms for the obstacle problems discretized by the finite difference method. We rewrite the obstacle problem to an equivalent complementarity problem. We use the regularization trick to non-smooth absolute function. Then we apply the Newton's method to obtain an iterative algorithm. Some other two algorithms based on this algorithm are derived. Numerical experiments show the effective of the algorithm.

Abstract:Modified Newton-type methods are efficient for addressing the generalized absolute value equations. In this paper, to further speed up the modified Newton-type methods, two new inexact modified Newton-type iteration methods are proposed. The sufficient conditions for the convergence of the two proposed inexact iteration methods are given. Moreover, to demonstrate the efficacy of the new method, several numerical examples are provided.

Abstract:We establish the existence theory of several commonly used finite element (FE) nonlinear fully discrete solutions, and the convergence theory of a linearized iteration. First, it is shown for standard FE, SUPG and edge-averaged method respectively that the stiffness matrix is a column M-matrix under certain conditions, and then the existence theory of these three FE nonlinear fully discrete solutions is presented by using Brouwer's fixed point theorem. Second, the contraction of a commonly used linearized iterative method-Gummel iteration is proven, and then the convergence theory is established for the iteration. At last, a numerical experiment is shown to verifies the theories.

Abstract:A family of eighth-order iterative methods with four evaluations for the solution of nonlinear equations is presented. Kung and Traub conjectured that an iteration method without memory based on n evaluations could achieve optimal convergence order 2n-1. The new family of eighth-order methods agrees with the conjecture of Kung–Traub for the case n=4. Therefore this family of methods has efficiency index equal to 1.682. Numerical comparisons are made with several other existing methods to show the performance of the presented methods.

Abstract:In this paper, the fixed point iteration and Newton's methods for iteratively solving nonlinear equations are studied in the control theoretical framework. This work is motivated by the ever increasing demands for integrating iterative solutions of nonlinear functions into embedded control systems. The use of the well-established control theoretical methods for our application purpose is inspired by the recent control-theoretical study on numerical analysis. Our study consists of two parts. In the first part, the existing fixed point iteration and Newton's methods are analysed using the stability theory for the sector-bounded Lure's systems. The second part is devoted to the modified iteration methods and the integration of sensor signals into the iterative computations. The major results achieved in our study are, besides some academic examples, applied to the iterative computation of the air path model embedded in the engine control systems.

Abstract:Purpose Solving the non‐linear equation f ( x )=0 has nice applications in various branches of physics and engineering. Sometimes the applications of the numerical methods to solve non‐linear equations depending on the second derivatives are restricted in physics and engineering. The purpose of this paper is to propose two new modified Newton's method for solving non‐linear equations. Convergence results show that the order of convergence of the proposed iterative methods for a simple root is four. The iterative methods are free from second derivative and can be used for solving non‐linear equations without computing the second derivative. Finally, several numerical examples are given to illustrate that proposed iterative algorithms are effective. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, first the authors introduce two new approximations for the definite integral arising from Newton's theorem. Then by considering these approximations, two new iterative methods are provided with fourth‐order convergence which can be used for solving non‐linear equations without computing second derivatives. Findings In this paper, the authors propose two new iterative methods without second derivatives for solving the non‐linear equation f ( x )=0. From numerical results, it is observed that the new methods are comparable with various iterative methods. Also numerical results corroborate the theoretical analysis. Originality/value The best property of these schemes is that they are second derivative free. Also from numerical results, it is observed that the new methods are comparable with various iterative methods. The numerical results corroborate the theoretical analysis.
Generalized high-order iterative methods for solutions of nonlinear systems and their applications

Abstract:In this paper, we have constructed a family of three-step methods with sixth-order convergence and a novel approach to enhance the convergence order $ p $ of iterative methods for systems of nonlinear equations. Additionally, we propose a three-step scheme with convergence order $ p+3 $ (for $ p\geq3 $) and have extended it to a generalized $ (m+2) $-step scheme by merely incorporating one additional function evaluation, thus achieving convergence orders up to $ p+3m $, $ m\in\mathbb{N} $. We also provide a thorough local convergence analysis in Banach spaces, including the convergence radius and uniqueness results, under the assumption of a Lipschitz-continuous Fréchet derivative. Theoretical findings have been validated through numerical experiments. Lastly, the performance of these methods is showcased through the analysis of their basins of attraction and their application to systems of nonlinear equations.

Abstract:Semismooth* Newton methods have been proposed in recent years targeting multi-valued inclusion problems and have been successfully implemented to deal with several concrete generalized equations. In this paper, we show that these executable implementations are exactly the applications of G-semismooth Newton methods for solving nonsmooth equations localized from these generalized equations. This new understanding expands the breadth of G-semismooth Newton methods in theory, and more importantly, facilitates the design and implementation of practical Newton-type algorithms for solving generalized equations.

Abstract:Numerous real life models in applied sciences and engineering commonly deal with nonlinear equations that have to be solved using reliable numerical methods. The computational science research is continuously growing, which is a marked by either introduction of new iteration algorithms or improvement of the existing ones. Nevertheless, these numerical methods may have high computational cost, but they do have a faster rate of convergence. Hence, the aim of this paper is create new two-step fourth order iteration algorithms for finding simple roots of nonlinear equations. To achieve this goal we have taken Steffensen's method in the first sub-step and a general quadratic interpolation polynomial in the second sub-step of a two-step iterative scheme. The main theorem demonstrates the fourth-order convergence of the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme is derivative free and achieves optimal fourth order convergence by using only three function evaluations per iteration satisfying the conjecture of Kung and Traub. To validate the theoretical results and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented methods, we explore some nonlinear models in medical sciences such as the law of blood flow, blood rheology, fluid permeability in biogels, and thermal regulation of the human body. The numerical results of the proposed scheme are presented in terms of number of iterations, errors in consecutive iterations, computational convergence order (CCO) and CPU time (sec). Several researchers have investigated basins of attraction on simple polynomials of the form in the complex plan. However, we have studied the fractal behavior of different methods on real world problems stated above in terms of basins of attraction for comparison of their convergence regions. The proposed scheme generate the basins of attraction in less time with wider regions of convergence in comparison with the existing methods of similar kind. Dynamical analysis of the proposed derivative free scheme illustrate its superiority in comparison with some existing optimal fourth order methods involving derivatives.
