Abstract:It is an old problem posed by Bennett and Lutzer whether every perfect GO-space has a perfect orderable extension. As an approach to this problem, we prove that, for a perfect GO-space X, Xhas a perfect linearly ordered extension if and only if there is a σ-discrete subset F such that GOX(∅, X − F, F, ∅) is perfect, where GOX(∅, X − F, F, ∅) is the ordered set X with the topology defined so that every point in F is isolated and every point in X − F has the usual interval neighborhood base.

Abstract:Recently H. Bennett and D. Lutzer proved a result on linearly ordered extensions of quarter-stratifiable GO-spaces which says that for a GO-space X,the statement that X is quarter-stratifiable and the linearly ordered extension of X is perfect is equivalent to that X is quarter-stratifiable,to that X is metrizable and to that X is metrizable.In this paper,we generabize Bennett and Lutzer's result and obtain the similiar result about compact semi-stratifiable ordered extension of GO-space.
Space Complexity of Perfect Matching in Bounded Genus Bipartite Graphs

Abstract:We investigate the space complexity of certain perfect matching problems over bipartite graphs embedded on surfaces of constant genus (orientable or non-orientable). We show that the problems of deciding whether such graphs have (1) a perfect matching or not and (2) a unique perfect matching or not, are in the logspace complexity class \SPL. Since \SPL\ is contained in the logspace counting classes $\oplusŁ$ (in fact in \modk\ for all $k\geq 2$), \CeqL, and \PL, our upper bound places the above-mentioned matching problems in these counting classes as well. We also show that the search version, computing a perfect matching, for this class of graphs is in $\FL^{\SPL}$. Our results extend the same upper bounds for these problems over bipartite planar graphs known earlier. As our main technical result, we design a logspace computable and polynomially bounded weight function which isolates a minimum weight perfect matching in bipartite graphs embedded on surfaces of constant genus. We use results from algebraic topology for proving the correctness of the weight function.

Abstract:A space X is said to be monotonically Lindelöf if for any open cover U of X, there exists a countable open cover rU such that rU refines U and if an open cover V of X refines U, then rV refines rU. Gruenhage shows that every Lindelöf first-countable GO-space is monotonically Lindelöf. In the paper we obtain the following result: A Lindelöf GO-space X is monotonically Lindelöf if and only if X has no subspace homeomorphic to a stationary subset of a regular ordinal ⩾ω1; the closure of the set of all points with character ω1 is monotonically Lindelöf.
A Note on a Conjecture of Sacks: It is Harder to Embed Height Three Partial Orders than Height Two Partial Orders

Abstract:A long-standing conjecture of Sacks states that it is provable in ZFC that every locally countable partial order of size continuum embeds into the Turing degrees. We show that this holds for partial orders of height two, but provide evidence that it is hard to extend this result even to partial orders of height three. In particular, we show that the result for height two partial orders holds both in certain extensions of ZF with only limited forms of choice and in the Borel setting (where the partial orders and embeddings are required to be Borel measurable), but that the analogous result for height three partial orders fails in both of these settings. We also formulate a general obstacle to embedding partial orders into the Turing degrees, which explains why our particular proof for height two partial orders cannot be extended to height three partial orders, even in ZFC. We finish by discussing how our results connect to the theory of countable Borel equivalence relations.

Abstract:It is well known that some classes of spaces such as absolutely countably compact (abbreviated acc) spaces and (a)-spaces are not hereditary with respect to closed, and even regular closed subspaces. In this paper, we investigate conditions for spaces being regular closed embeddable into spaces with certain covering properties, in particular we characterize spaces which can be embedded as regular closed subsets into acc spaces and (a)-spaces. Some examples are presented as applications of the criteria. Two problems raised by Matveev [Topology Appl. 80 (1997) 169–175] are answered.

Abstract:It is shown that every non-compact hyperbolic manifold of finite volume has a finite cover admitting a geodesic ideal triangulation. Also, every hy-perbolic manifold of finite volume with non-empty, totally geodesic boundary has a finite regular cover which has a geodesic partially truncated triangulation. The proofs use an extension of a result due to Long and Niblo concerning the separa-bility of peripheral subgroups. Epstein and Penner [2] used a convex hull construction in Lorentzian space to show that every non-compact hyperbolic manifold of finite volume has a canonical subdivision into convex geodesic polyhedra all of whose vertices lie on the sphere at infinity of hyperbolic space. In general, one cannot expect to further subdivide these polyhedra into ideal geodesic simplices such that the result is an ideal triangulation. That this is possible after lifting the cell decomposition to an appropriate finite cover is the first main result of this paper. A cell decomposition of a hyperbolic n–manifold into ideal geodesic n–simplices all of which are embedded will be referred to as an embedded geodesic ideal triangulation. Theorem 1 Any non-compact hyperbolic manifold of finite volume has a finite regular cover which admits an embedded geodesic ideal triangulation. The study of geodesic ideal triangulations of hyperbolic 3–manifolds goes back to Thurston [11]. They are known to have nice properties through, for instance, work by Neumann and Zagier [8] and Choi [1]. Petronio and Porti [9] discuss the question of whether every non-compact hyperbolic 3–manifold of finite volume has a geodesic ideal triangulation — this question still remains unanswered. Kojima [5] extended the construction by Epstein and Penner to obtain a canonical decomposition into partially truncated polyhedra of any hyperbolic manifold with totally geodesic boundary components. A cell decomposition of a hyperbolic n–manifold with totally geodesic boundary into geodesic partially truncated n–simplices all of which are embedded will be referred to as an embedded geodesic partially truncated triangulation. Theorem 2 Any finite-volume hyperbolic manifold with non-empty, totally geodesic boundary has a finite regular cover which admits an embedded geodesic partially truncated triangulation. Abstract:We construct perfect t-embeddings for regular hexagons of the hexagonal lattice, providing the first example, and hence proving existence, for graphs with an outer face of degree greater than four. The construction is in terms of the inverse Kasteleyn matrix and relies only on symmetries of the graph. Using known formulas for the inverse Kasteleyn matrix, we derive exact contour integral formulas for these embeddings and their origami maps. Through steepest descent analysis, we establish scaling limits, proving convergence of origami maps to a maximal surface in the Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{2,1}$, and we verify structural rigidity conditions, leading to a new proof of convergence of height fluctuations to the Gaussian free field.

Abstract:A topological space G is said to be a rectifiable space provided that there are a surjective homeomorphism φ:G×G→G×G and an element e∈G such that π1∘φ=π1 and for every x∈G we have φ(x,x)=(x,e), where π1:G×G→G is the projection to the first coordinate. In this paper, we mainly discuss the rectifiable spaces which are suborderable, and show that if a rectifiable space is suborderable then it is metrizable or a totally disconnected P-space, which improves a theorem of A.V. Arhangelʼskiı̌ (2009) in [8]. As an application, we discuss the remainders of the Hausdorff compactifications of GO-spaces which are rectifiable, and we mainly concerned with the following statement, and under what condition Φ it is true.StatementSuppose that G is a non-locally compact GO-space which is rectifiable, and that Y=bG∖G has (locally) a property-Φ. Then G and bG are separable and metrizable.Moreover, we also consider some related matters about the remainders of the Hausdorff compactifications of rectifiable spaces.

Abstract:We develop a theory of perfect algebraic spaces that extend the so-called perfect schemes to the setting of algebraic spaces. We prove several desired properties of perfect algebraic spaces. This extends some previous results of perfect schemes, including the recent one developed by Bertapelle et al. in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1611.02060" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1611.02060">arXiv:1611.02060</a>. Moreover, our theory extends the previous one developed by Xinwen Zhu in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1407.8519" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1407.8519">arXiv:1407.8519</a>. The perfect morphisms will provide equivalent descriptions to perfect algebraic spaces. Our method to define perfect algebraic spaces differs from all previous approaches, as we utilize representability of functors. There is a natural notion of algebraic Frobenius morphisms of algebraic spaces, which is analogous to the absolute Frobenius morphisms of schemes. In terms of algebraic Frobenius morphisms, one can define perfection of an algebraic space.

Abstract:This paper studies optimal spatial layout of transshipment facilities and the corresponding service regions on an infinite homogeneous plane $\mathbb{R}^2$ that minimize the total cost for facility set-up, outbound delivery and inbound replenishment transportation. The problem has strong implications in the context of freight logistics and transit system design. This paper first focuses on a Euclidean plane and presents a new proof for the known Gersho's conjecture, which states that the optimal shape of each service region should be a regular hexagon if the inbound transportation cost is ignored. When inbound transportation cost becomes non-negligible, however, we show that a tight upper bound can be achieved by a type of elongated cyclic hexagons, while a cost lower bound based on relaxation and idealization is also obtained. The gap between the analytical upper and lower bounds is within 0.3%. This paper then shows that a similar elongated non-cyclic hexagon shape is actually optimal for service regions on a rectilinear metric plane. Numerical experiments and sensitivity analyses are conducted to verify the analytical findings and to draw managerial insights.

Abstract:We give an alternate proof of the left-orderability of the mapping class group of a connected oriented infinite-type surface with a non-empty boundary. Our main strategy involves the inductive construction of a countable stable Alexander system for the surface using a carefully chosen exhaustion by finite-type subsurfaces. In fact, we prove that a generalised ideal arc system for the surface also induces a left-ordering on the big mapping class group. We then prove that two generalised ideal arc systems determine the same left-ordering if and only if they are loosely isotopic. Finally, we prove that the topology on the big mapping class group is the same as the order topology induced by a left-ordering corresponding to an inductively constructed ideal arc system.
