Skin metastases:a report of five cases and a review of the literature

Abstract:Objective:To understand the feature of cutaneous metastases, and to improve the diagnosis and treatment. Methods: Five cases of cutaneous relapse were reported and the literatures were reviewed. Results: Five cases of cutaneous metastases were all from highly aggressive malignant tumor ,4 cases associated with other organ metastases. Skin metastasis occurred at 6-18 months after operation of primary tumor. Their clinical appearance were simila with other common dermatologic disorders. All of them were treated by chemotherapy with good response. Conclusion: Skin involvement is a late complication that occurs uncommon in cancer patients. Definitive diagnosis requires an index of suspicion and skin biopsy. Rational, effective and comprehensive therapies can relieve symptoms, prolong the duration of life and improve the quality of life for the patients with metastatic carcinoma.
