Abstract:In the presence of styrene (St), the melting-grafting of maleic anhydride (MAH) onto polypropylene was conducted in Haake torque rheometer and twins screw extruder (TSE) respectively. In experiments the dicumyl peroxide (DCP) concentration, St concentration, MAH concentration, reaction time, reaction temperature and screw speed were varied respectively. Results show that with the DCP concentration increasing, both the grating degree of MAH and melt flow index (MFR) of the grafted product increase at first and then deerease. When maintaining MAH concentration and increasing St concentration, the grafting degree of MAH reaches maximum at St:MAH=1mol?mol?1 and MFR always keeps decreasing. When maintaining St concentration and increasing MAH concentration, the grafting degree of MAH increases at first and then slightly decreases, and during which the MFR has a maximum point. With the reactive time increasing, both the grating degree of MAH and MFR of the grafted product increase at first and then decrease. When temperature is too high, the grafting degree of MAH decreases and the scission of the grafted product increases. When screw speed is low, the grating degree of MAH is low too, and when screw speed is high, the scission of the grafted product increases. The grafting of MAH in TSE is lower than that in Haake torque rheometer, while MFR of the grafted product in TSE is much lower than that in Haake torque rheometer. Based on the mechanism of melt-grafting, the above experimental results were discussed and explained.
Preparation of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester Catalyzed by Solid Acid from By- Products of Plam Oil

Abstract:Fatty acid methyl esters were prepared by esterification in a fixed bed reactor from methanol and fatty acids in palm oil deodorizer distillate(PODD) using a cation exchange resin as catalyst.Experimental results showed that the optimum mass ratio for the esterification was n(methyl alcohol)/n(PODD)=17.3.The conversion of fatty acids increases with the temperature when the temperature was below the boiling point of methanol.The conversion increases with time as well,but the increasing rate declines with time.The conversion achieves 87% at 64 ℃,56 min.

Abstract:The commercial reactor technologies for oxidation of n-butane to maleic anhydride are reviewed,including fixed-bed reactor technology and fluidized-bed reactor technology.The advantages and disadvantages of two different reactor technologies are analyzed.From the perspective of industrial application,the new reactor technology is introduced in detail.Based on the current situation of maleic anhydride production in China,the fixed-bed reactor technology is focused at present.The solutions of the existing problem in the fixed-bed reactor technology are also put forward.
A New Process for the Catalyst Synthesis of the Dimethyl Maleate

Abstract:The article studies using p- toluene sulfonic acid as the catalyst of the esterfication of methanol and maleic anydride. The study focused on the reaction temperature,amount of the catalyst,the ratio of methanol to maleic anhydride and reaction time. The experimental results indicate the increase of reaction temperature benefits the production of dimethyl maleate,with the optimum range being 105℃- 125℃. Similarly,increase of catalyst amount,the ratio of methanol to maleic nhydride and reaction time also help the production of the goal ester. With the amount of the catalyst being at 15 percent of the maleic anhydride, the ratio of the methanol to maleic anhydride being 2. 5∶1 and reacting 90 min,the yield of dimmethyl maleate may be 99. 2%.

Abstract:N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine was obtained by dehydration of dimethyl amine and glycol in a fixed-bed reactor under the self-made supported metal catalysts.First,three types of catalysts(Cu-Ni,Cu-Cr,Cu-Zn)were prepared through impregnation method withγ-Al2O3as the carrier and Cu,Ni,Cr,Zn as the active components.The performance of these catalysts,which was evaluated by the conversion of glycol and the selectivity of tetramethylethylenediamine,was investigated under the same condition.The results indicated the best performance of Cu-Ni type.A series of parallel experiments were carried out to find out the appropriate range of temperature,the molar ratio of ethyl diamine/glycol and volume velocities.The experimental conditions were eventually optimized by response surface methodology(Design Expert)and the optimal values were:204.81℃,molar ratio of ethyl diamine/glycol of 5.27,velocity of 0.29h-1,with the highest yield of 79.84%.

Abstract:Acetalization and ketalization of various aldehydes and ketones with glycerol by using FeCl3 as catalyst were studied. Effects of reaction time, mole ratio of reactants and amount of catalyst on the yield of acetals (ketals) were investigated. Results showed that FeCl3 was an efficient catalyst for the acetalization and ketalization. The optimal reaction conditions were found as follows: molar ratio of aldehydes and ketones to glycerol = 1 : 1.2, 1 wt% catalyst, reaction time 2 h. Under these conditions, conversion and the selectivity were above 90% and 95%, respectively.

Abstract:Glycerol, derived from biodiesel production, is a renewable feedstock for the production of value-added chemicals. Herein, we report an investigation of the acetalization of glycerol with n-octanal by homogeneous acid catalysis in the absence of a solvent, using p-dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid, p-toluenesulfonic acid, and sulfuric acid, respectively, as catalysts. p-Dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid, a surfactant-type Bronsted acid, proved to be an excellent catalyst capable of efficiently promoting the reaction under solvent-free conditions, and the yields of glycerol acetals reached 99% under the optimal conditions. The distribution of five-and six-membered cyclic acetal regioisomers varied depending on the reaction time and temperature. Moreover, the amphiphilic properties of the products, with different ratios of five-to six-membered cyclic acetals, have been evaluated by surface tension measurements.

Abstract:The acetalization and ketalization of various aldehydes or ketones, namely cyclohexanone, butanone, acetone, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde, isobutyraldehyde, valeraldehyde, isopentyl aldehyde, octyl aldehyde, and benzaldehyde, with glycol on zeolite Hβ catalyst were studied. Effects of reaction conditions, namely reaction time, mole ratio of aldehydes or ketones to glycol, and catalyst doasge, on reaction were investigated. Zeolite Hβ was an efficient catalyst for acetalization and ketalization with high conversion and selectivity under mild reaction conditions. Optimal reaction conditions were: mole ratio of aldehydes or ketones to glycol 1:1.2, catalyst dosage (1 mol aldehydes or ketones) 2 g, and reaction time 2 h. Under optimal reaction conditions, conversion of aldehydes or ketones and selectivity of acetals or ketals were more than 90% and 98%, respectively.

Abstract:Ketalization of cyclohexanone with ethylene glycol was carried out over acid-modified kaolin catalysts. Effects of reaction time, mole ratio between reactants, and catalyst dosage on the reaction were investigated. Under optimal conditions: catalyst dosage(based on 1 mol cyclohexanone) 0.75 g, reaction time 70 min and n(cyclohexanone) ∶n(ethylene glycol)1 ∶1.5, conversion of cyclohexanone and selectivity to product cyclohexanone ethylene ketal can reach 99.9% and 100.0%, respectively. Condensation reactions of different aldehydes or ketones with ethylene glycol could also be conducted over the acid-modified kaolin catalyst. Under above conditions, conversions of aldehydes or ketones and selectivities to the products can achieve more than 91.6% and more than 98.2%, respectively. Acid modification is beneficial to improve performance of kaolin catalyst in condensation reaction.

Abstract:This paper explores the impact of catalyst dosage, molar ratio of normal butanol to maleic anhydride, reaction temperature and reaction time, etc. on esterification rate in combination with the synthesis of dibutyl maleate with SO42-/Fe2O3 solid super acid catalyst prepared with ferrous sulfate, a by-product to produce titanium dioxide. It turned out that the preferable conditions for the synthesis of dibutyl maleate with SO42-/Fe2O3 solid super acid catalyst are as follows: catalyst dosage accounting for 2.0% of the amount of reactive material, molar ratio of alcohol to acid of 3.5:1, reaction temperature of 120°C and reaction time of 3h. Under the preferable conditions, the esterification rate of normal butanol to maleic anhydride can reach 90% in esterification reaction. The infrared spectroscopy shows that the synthetic dibutyl maleate conforms to the standard diagram.

Abstract:High-acid value palm oil and Jatropha oil were used as raw materials,and the H2SO4 was used to catalyze the esterification reaction of the different acid value oil at different dosage of methanol,and the effect of molar ratio of methanol to free fatty acid in materials on the reaction were studied.The results showed that the effect of molar ratio of methanol to free fatty acid on the esterification reaction was mainly caused by the mass transfer diffusion effects,the optimum amount of methanol depended on the acid value of raw material and its relationship was y=3.488x0.174(y:molar ratio of methanol to free fatty acid,x:the acid value of raw material).
Acrylate Esters by Ethenolysis of Maleate Esters with Ru Metathesis Catalysts: an HTE and a Technoeconomic Study

Abstract:A high throughput experimentation (HTE) study identified active Ru metathesis catalysts and reaction conditions for the ethenolysis of maleate esters to the respective acrylate esters. Catalysts were tested at various loadings (75–10'000 ppm) and temperatures (30–60 o C) with maleate esters dissolved in toluene (up to ca. 44 wt%) or neat and at variable partial pressures of ethylene (0.2–10 bar). Ruthenium catalysts containing a PCy 3 ligand, such as 1 st or 2 nd generation Grubbs catalysts, as well as the state‐of‐the‐art catalysts containing cyclic alkyl amino carbene (CAAC) ligands, are generally inferior to Hoveyda‐Grubbs 2 nd generation catalyst in ethenolysis of maleates. Productive turnover numbers could exceed 1900 if the ethenolysis reaction is performed at low ethylene pressures (0.2‐3 bar) and reach 5200 when a polymeric phenol additive was used. Such catalytic performance falls well within the window practiced in industry. Moreover, a crude technoeconomic analysis finds similar production cost for both the ethenolysis route and conventional technology, i.e. propene oxidation followed by esterification, justifying research to further improve the ethenolysis route.

Catalytic Amination of Glycerol with Dimethylamine over Different Type Ofheteropolyacid/zr-Mcm-41 Catalysts

Abstract:The effect of different type of heteropolyacid/Zr-MCM-41 catalysts on the catalytic amination of glycerol with dimethylamine to produce Dimethylamino-3-propanal was researched. Under the premise of their respective optimum loading amount, the specific surface area, pore volume and pore size of the H6P2W18O62/Zr-MCM-41(Cat-2) were higher than those of the H3PW12O40/Zr-MCM-41(Cat-1). Cat-1 exhibited more total acidity than that of Cat-2, which resulted in the higher glycerol conversion of Cat-1 at the beginning of the reaction, but the coke deposited on Cat-1 was more than that of Cat-2. The amount of Bronsted acid sites and ratio of B/(B + L) on Cat-2 were higher than that of Cat-1. Therefore, the catalytic stability, selectivity and yield of Dimethylamino-3-propanal of Cat-2 were higher than those of Cat-1, which proved that the Bronsted acid sites are good for the catalytic amination of glycerol with dimethylamine to produce Dimethylamino-3-propanal. The leaching ratio of Cat-2 is slightly more than that of Cat-1, because H6P2W18O62 is more hydrophilic than H3PW12O40. However, the stability of Cat-2 is higher than that of Cat-1, therefore, the main reason for deactivation of catalyst is the formation of carbon deposit during this reaction. And the reaction pathway of catalytic amination of glycerol with dimethylamine was proposed. Furthermore, the reaction temperature, GHSV and the molar ratio of dimethylamine/glycerol were optimized on Cat-2 catalyst. Under the optimum reaction conditions: 300 degrees C, H6P2W18O62 loading of 20 wt%, GHSV of 3 h(-1), glycerol aqueous concentration of 10 wt%, dimethylamine aqueous concentration of 30 wt%, molar ratio of dimethylamine/glycerol of 2.5, the glycerol conversion, selectivity and yield of Dimethylamino-3-propanal were 95.6%, 80.8% and 77.2%, respectively.

Abstract:Glycerol esterification is an effective method to reduce the acid value of acidic oil,which can be used for biodiesel production.A mixture of soybean oil and oleic acid was used as the model compound.The effect of reaction temperature on glycerol esterified product distribution was examined.Kinetic parameters,including reaction rate constant k and activation energy Ea,of all the reactions involved in glycerol esterification process were determined using the second-order reaction kinetics model.The effects of reaction temperature,molar ratio of glycerol to free fatty acid,and acid value of feedstock on acid value reduction were predicted based on the model.The results showed that the model values were in good agreement with the experimental values.The reduction of acid value was highly dependent on the reaction temperature.The higher acid value reduction rate and lower final acid value were observed at higher reaction temperature,higher molar ratio of glycerol to free fatty acid and higher initial acid value of feedstock.The research results were helpful to reveal the mechanism of glycerol esterification reaction and design of glycerol esterification reactor.

Abstract:Di-2-ethylhexyl maleate was synthesized with maleic anhydride and 2-ethylhexanol in the presence of sodium bisulfate supported on activated carbon as acatalyst,and the influent factors of the reaction were investigated.The results showed that the suitable conditions were as follows: when the amount of maleic anhydride was 0.1 mol,the molar ratio of 2-ethylhexanol to maleic anhydride was 3.5∶1.0,the dosage of catalyst based on percentage of mass of total reactants was 2.0%,the reaction time was 2.5 h,and the use level of water-carring agent xylene was 12 mL.Under the optimal conditions,esterification rate can reach 96.6%.The product was characterized by refractive index and IR.

Abstract:A novel carbon-based strong acid catalyst, methylnaphthalenesulfonic acid - formaldehyde condensate, has been synthesized successfully. The catalytic activity for acetalization and ketalization at room temperature under solvent-free condition was investigated. The results showed that the novel catalyst was very efficient for the reaction. Also the novel heterogeneous catalyst owned the advantages of high activity, wide applicability, strikingly simple work-up procedure, non-pollution, stability and reusability, which made the catalyst hold great potential for the "green process".

Abstract:Abstract: Lipid esters are prepared from mixed fatty anhydrides by esterification. These esters are high-value-added intermediates used in industrial applications. We describe the synthesis and characterization of esters using salicylic acid and mixed anhydrides with zinc oxide as catalysts. To achieve maximum reaction efficiency, we varied the mixed anhydride and studied some parameters in the reaction, such as the molar ratio (anhydride/alcohol) and the amount of catalyst. The esterification reaction was realized with some primary and secondary alcohols in the presence of resin Amberlyst15. The best yield of the palmitic ester was obtained in the case of mixed 4-chlorobenzoic palmitic anhydride. We obtained 53% of fatty ester. Moreover, we also studied the reactivity of certain mixed anhydrides for the esterification reaction of salicylic acid in the presence of a Lewis acid as a heterogeneous catalyst. The anhydrides were prepared in the presence of triethylamine in the organic solvent by a reaction between fatty acid and acid chloride. Mixed aromatic palmitic were more reactive and selective than the aliphatic anhydrides. The palmitic group was the most involved in acylation. Good yields of fatty esters were obtained with total conversion of mixed anhydrides.

Abstract:The catalytic properties of the Ru-P(Ph)3 complex which was synthesized in situ for maleic anhydride hydrogenation to succinic anhydride was investigated. Typical reaction conditions were ranged: T = 20-100°C; PH2 = 1. 0-4. 0MPa(room temperature); [Ru] = 2. 1 × 10-3-8. 4 × 10-3 mmol/L;[P] = 1. 0-12. 0 × 10-3 mmol/L;[MA] = 0. 5-2. 0 mol/ L; Solvent: tetrahydrofunan, toluene, diglyme, cyclohexane, ethanol, etc; Under the experimental conditions, high conversion (98. 4%) and selectivity (100%) for MA hydrogenation to SA were obtained. It was found that the catalytic activity was strongly influenced by the nature of the solvent.

Abstract:The copolymerization of styrene and maleic anhydride in ethyl methyl ketone as solvent and with benzoyl peroxide as initiator at 60–80°C in the entire feed composition range was studied. The resulting copolymers appear to have negative and positive deviations from alternation as determined by use of elemental analysis. The experimental data were found to fit a three-reactivity-ratio copolymer composition equation from the penultimate model. The inclusion of the reactivity ratio, kSM (=kSMM/kSMS), in addition to rSS (=kSSS/kSSM) and rMS (=kMSS/kMSM), allows prediction of a positive deviation from the alternation, i.e. the mole fraction of maleic anhydride in the copolymer being higher than 0,5.

Abstract:Using conditional test,the 1,2-Cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid diisononyl ester was synthesized from Isononyl alcohol and hexahydrophthalic anhydride by direct esterification.The effects of reaction temperature,reaction time,raw materials mol ratio,and the catalyst dosage on the esterification rate were studied.The proper technological conditions were that the reaction temperature was 230 ℃,reaction time was 4 h,the mol ratio of Isononyl alcohol to hexahydrophthalic anhydride was 2.8,and catalyst dosage was 0.25%(based on hexahydrophthalic anhydride).Experimental results showed that the catalyst had many advantages,such as easy preparation,low cost and high activity.It was a1so non-corrosive and pollution-free to the environment.
