Abstract:In Finsler geometry, the Minkowski space is a generalization of the Euclidean space. We will brief isometric immersions of Finsler manifolds in Minkowski spaces, in particular, minimal immersions. The volume variation and the mean curvature of Finsler submanifolds in a Minkowski space are given. Some Bernstein type theorems and non-trivial examples for minimal surfaces in Minkowski spaces are shown.

Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.

Abstract:Let f: M-n hooked right arrow+ Sn+1 subset of Rn+2 be an n-dimensional complete oriented Riemannian manifold minimally immersed in an (n + 1)-dimensional unit sphere Sn+1. Denote by S-+(n+1) the upper closed hemisphere. If f(M-n) subset of or equal to + S-+(n+1), then under some curvature conditions the authors can get that the isometric immersion is a totally embedding. They also generalize a theorem of Li Hai Zhong on hypersurface of space form with costant scalar curvature.

Abstract:The present paper is a continuation of [t~0] and []~Z] which are devoted to the existence of global isometric embeddings in R 3 of nonnegatively curved surfaces. In particular, [GL] and [HZ] independently prove that any C 4 nonnegative curvature metric defined over S 2 always has a C 1'1 isometric embedding in _R s. For the noncompact case, for example given a complete metric with positive curvature defined on R 2, based on the Aleksandrov's theory on the convex surfaces Olovjanisnlkov gave the weak solution to the isometric embedding problem in R a of this noncompact positively curved surface and Pogorelov showed that if the metric is smooth, so is this isometric embedding. Abstract:Let Msm(c) be an m-dimensional indefinite space form isometrically immersed in a (2m- 1)-dimensional indefinite space form Ns2m-1 (c) (c ＜ c). If Msm (c) is minimal, we prove that Msm must be flat with index s in a (2m - 1)-pseudo-sphere with the same index. We also use techniques from soliton theory to get the correspondence between a kind of fiat m-dimensional submanifolds with index s in the (2m - 1)-dimensional pseudo-sphere Ns2m-1 and the (O(2m,s)/O(m,s)×O(m)-system I.

Abstract:In this paper we study local isometric immersions f:Msn(K)→Ns+q2n−1(c) of a time-like n-submanifold Msn(K) with constant sectional curvature K and index s into a pseudo-Riemannian space form Ns+q2n−1(c) with constant sectional curvature c and index s+q, where q≥0, 1≤s≤n−1 and K≠c. We first prove the existence of Chebyshev coordinates of a time-like submanifold Msn(K) in certain conditions. Afterwards, we generalize the classical Bäcklund theorem for space-like (or time-like) submanifolds in Nn−12n−1(c) and N12n−1(c). Finally as an application, in the Chebyshev coordinates, we use the Bäcklund theorem to give a Bäcklund transformation and a permutability formula between the generalized sine-Laplace equation and the generalized sinh-Laplace equation.
On Some Rigidity Results of Hypersurfaces in A Sphere

Abstract:We study the weak stability index of an immersion ϕ: M → Sn+1 (1) ⊂ Rn+2 of an n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold. We prove that the weak stability index of a compact hypersurface M with constant scalar curvature in Sn+1 (1), which is not totally umbilical, is greater than or equal to n + 2 if the mean curvature H1 and H3 are constant, and that the equality holds if and only if M is $\smash{S^m(c)\times S^{n-m}(\sqrt{1-c^2})}$. As an application, we show that the weak stability index of an n-dimensional compact hypersurface with constant scalar curvature in Sn+1 (1), which is neither totally umbilical nor a Clifford hypersurface, is greater than or equal to 2n + 4 if the mean curvature H1 and H3 are constant.

Abstract:In this paper we study isometric immersions $f:M^n \to {\mathbb {C}^{\prime}}\!P^n$ of an $n$-dimensional pseudo-Riemannian manifold $M^n$ into the $n$-dimensional para-complex projective space ${\mathbb {C}^{\prime}}\!P^n$. We study the immersion $f$ by means of a lift $\mathfrak f$ of $f$ into a quadric hypersurface in ${S^{2n+1}_{n+1}}$. We find the frame equations and compatibility conditions. We specialize these results to dimension $n = 2$ and a definite metric on $M^2$ in isothermal coordinates and consider the special cases of Lagrangian surface immersions and minimal surface immersions. We characterize surface immersions with special properties in terms of primitive harmonicity of the Gauss maps.

Abstract:We investigate isometric immersions $f\colon M^n\to\R^{n+2}$, $n\geq 3$, of Riemannian manifolds into Euclidean space with codimension two that admit isometric deformations that preserve the metric of the Gauss map. In precise terms, the preservation of the third fundamental form of the submanifold must be ensured throughout the deformation. For minimal isometric deformations of minimal submanifolds this is always the case. Our main result is of a local nature and states that if $f$ is neither minimal nor reducible, then it is a hypersurface of an isometrically deformable hypersurface $F\colon\tilde{M}^{n+1}\to\R^{n+2}$ such that the deformations of $F$ induce those of $f$. Moreover, for a particular class of such submanifolds, a complete local parametric description is provided.

The Isometric Immersion of Negatively Curved Surfaces with Finite Total Curvature

Abstract:In this paper, we study the smooth isometric immersion of a complete, simply connected surface with a negative Gauss curvature into the three-dimensional Euclidean space. A fundamental and longstanding problem is to find a sufficient condition for a complete negatively curved surface to be isometrically embedded in R^3 [67]. It can be described as an initial and/or boundary value problem for a hyperbolic system of nonlinear partial differential equations derived from the Gauss-Codazzi equations. The mathematical theory associated with this system is largely incomplete. The global smooth isometric immersion has been proven in the literature when the Gauss curvature decays rapidly and monotonically. However, when the Gauss curvature oscillates or decays slowly, the problem becomes much more challenging and little is known. In our paper, we find a sufficient condition, consisting of a finite total Gauss curvature and appropriate oscillations of the Gauss curvature. Under this condition we prove the global existence of a smooth solution to the Gauss-Codazzi system, achieving a global smooth isometric immersion of the surface into R^3. Furthermore, we show that the finite total Gauss curvature is necessary for the existence of a solution in a special case of the Gauss-Codazzi system. New techniques are developed to overcome the difficulties posed by the slow decay and oscillations of the Gauss curvature. By observing that certain combinations of the Riemann invariants decay faster than others, we reformulate the Gauss-Codazzi equations as a symmetric hyperbolic system and uncover a crucial structure of partial dampings. These partial dampings, along with the finite total curvature and appropriate oscillations of the Gauss curvature, enable us to obtain a global smooth solution through delicate analysis, and consequently establish a global smooth isometric immersion of such surfaces.

Abstract:Let $x:{\bf M}^m\rightarrow {\bf S}^{m+1}$ be a hypersurface in the (m+1)-dimensional unit sphere S m+1 without umbilics. Four basic invariants of x under the Möbius transformation group in S m+1 are a Riemannian metric g called Möbius metric, a 1-form Φ called Möbius form, a symmetric (0,2) tensor A called Blaschke tensor and symmetric (0,2) tensor B called Möbius second fundamental form. In this paper, we prove the following classification theorem: let $x:{\bf M}^m\rightarrow {\bf S}^{m+1}$ be a hypersurface, which satisfies (i) Φ≡0, (ii) A+λg+μB≡0 for some functions λ and μ, then λ and μ must be constant, and x is Möbius equivalent to either (i) a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in S m+1 ; or (ii) the pre-image of a stereographic projection of a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in the Euclidean space R m+1 ; or (iii) the image of the standard conformal map of a hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in the (m+1)-dimensional hyperbolic space H m+1 . This result shows that one can use Möbius differential geometry to unify the three different classes of hypersurface with constant mean curvature and scalar curvature in S m+1 , R m+1 and H m+1 .
On the fundamental theorem of submanifold theory and isometric immersions with supercritical low regularity

Abstract:fundamental result in global analysis and nonlinear elasticity asserts that given a solution $\mathfrak{S}$ to the Gauss--Codazzi--Ricci equations over a simply-connected closed manifold $(\mathcal{M}^n,g)$, one may find an isometric immersion $\iota$ of $(\mathcal{M}^n,g)$ into the Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^{n+k}$ whose extrinsic geometry coincides with $\mathfrak{S}$. Here the dimension $n$ and the codimension $k$ are arbitrary. Abundant literature has been devoted to relaxing the regularity assumptions on $\mathfrak{S}$ and $\iota$. The best result up to date is $\mathfrak{S} \in L^p$ and $\iota \in W^{2,p}$ for $p>n \geq 3$ or $p=n=2$. In this paper, we extend the above result to $\iota \in \mathcal{X}$ whose topology is strictly weaker than $W^{2,n}$ for $n \geq 3$. Indeed, $\mathcal{X}$ is the weak Morrey space $L^{p, n-p}_{2,w}$ with arbitrary $p \in ]2,n]$. This appears to be first supercritical result in the literature on the existence of isometric immersions with low regularity, given the solubility of the Gauss--Codazzi--Ricci equations. Our proof essentially utilises the theory of Uhlenbeck gauges -- in particular, Rivière--Struwe's work [Partial regularity for harmonic maps and related problems, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 61 (2008)] on harmonic maps in arbitrary dimensions and codimensions -- and compensated compactness.

Abstract:We study isometric immersions $f: M^n \rightarrow \mathbb{H}^{n+1}$ into hyperbolic space of dimension $n+1$ of a complete Riemannian manifold of dimension $n$ on which a compact connected group of intrinsic isometries acts with principal orbits of codimension one. We provide a characterization if either $n \geq 3$ and $M^n$ is compact, or $n \geq 5$ and the connected components of the set where the sectional curvature is constant and equal to $-1$ are bounded.

Abstract:Let x be an isometric immersion of a Riemannian n‐manifold M into a Euclidean (n + 1)‐space which does not pass through the origin of . Then, the tangential part of the position vector field x of x is called the canonical vector field, and the normal part gives rise to a scalar function called the support function. Using the canonical vector field, support function, and mean curvature, we establish three new characterizations of hyperspheres. In addition, we prove that if the energy function of M satisfies the static perfect fluid equation, then M has at most two distinct principal curvatures. As an application, we prove that a complete noncompact hypersurface M is a spherical hypercylinder if the energy function of M satisfies the static perfect fluid equation, and it has exactly two distinct nonsimple principal curvatures.
