The spatio-temporal evolution and influencing factors of peasants' income in contiguous destitute areas

Abstract:Choosing peasants' net income as the measure index,and using the methods of space classification and spatial measurement,this paper described the spatio-temporal pattern of the peasants' income disparities and explored the influencing factors in 14 contiguous destitute areas from 2000 to 2014.The results were showed as follows.First,the peasants' income increased which showed a slowly increasing trend from 2000 to 2009 and a rapidly growing trend from 2009 to 2014.But compared to the national average level,the difference was obviously.The absolute gap of peasants' income became more and more enlarged which showed 929 yuan to 3 132 yuan from 2000 to 2014.However the relative gap showed a waved decreasing trend from 2000 to 2014.Second,the spatial pattern of peasants' income showed that,the low-level and the less low-level areas were concentrated contiguously while the higher-level of income and highest-level of income areas were scattered from 2000 to 2014 which showed little change by the time.In 2014,the lowest income area was distributed in the mid-west of the whole region,such as Liupanshan Area,Yunnan-Guangxi-Guizhou rocky desertification area by the direction from north to south.The lower-level income area spread all over the whole region,especially in Wuling mountainous area,Dabie mountainous area and the Tibetan plateau.The middle-level income areas and the high-level income areas were both decentralized.The highest income areas were very small and its distribution was fragmented.The peasants' income in upper reaches of the Yangtze River was still low and concentrated distribution,so as to the counties around Beijing;promoting growth of peasants' income of these areas can directly affect the effectiveness of the two country strategies.Lastly,we chose 12 index factors and used the method of SLM and SEM to measure the influeucing impact from the aspects of natural element and social element.From the results of parameters estimation,cultivated land resources and grain output efficiency were the main factor affecting the peasants' income in contiguous destitute areas.The weak strength and poor traffic condition limited the driving forces of economic radiation.Improving the level of urbanization and accelerating the process of urbanization had significantly positive effect on peasants' iucome.Strengthening the introduction of high-quality personnel,and giving full play to its economic creation value,had an important role in promoting the peasants' income in poor counties.The factor of population migration was also significant to peasants' income,so it is an important way to promote the overall relocation of peasants in some areas with poor environment.
