Abstract:Subject service develops rapidly in academic and special libraries.However,there are some difficulties in its practice,including its planning and design,establishment of its starting point,role of subject librarians,its systematization and coordination,and assessment of its performance.It is,therefore,necessary to find the measures for making breakthroughs in these difficulties from its management systems and operating mechanisms,with stress laid on the construction of subject librarian team.Subject librarians should provide their service step by step,which needs the powerful support of leaders and active cooperation of other departments.Incorporation themselves into basic work is irreplaceable and satisfaction of readers is the key to the assessment of their performance.

Abstract:Objective:To analyze the situation of recent ten-year publications in Chinese hospital libraries, providing advice for the development and innovation of hospital libraries and the help to improvement of scientific research management.Methods:Publications in databases including CNKI, Wanfang, VIP were retrieved when " hospital library" is included as a key topic. The general information of the enrolled publications was statistically described. With respect to the key words with high frequency, co-word analysis and cluster analysis were performed to explore the research hotspots in hospital libraries.Results:The number of publications in Chinese hospital libraries shows an overall downward trend. By contrast, the total numbers of publications in hospital libraries from Shandong and Guangzhou rank top. In terms of the ratio of total number of publications to total number of hospitals, Liaoning and Chongqing rank top. The periodicals of interest are mainly grouped into three categories including intelligence information, library and hospital management; however, the cooperation with clinical or other departments should be strengthened. Discipline and personalized service, digital library and library innovation are the dominating research hotspots in hospital libraries from China. Studies of hospital library mainly focused on clinical and scientific research services, but paid less attention to the support to hospital scientific research management.Conclusions:The service of hospital library is involved in the whole process of scientific research management. To improve the role of hospital library in scientific management, embedded service is recommended to be applied into the whole process of hospital scientific research management; construction of institutional repository for scientific research management and transformation of the role of hospital library are also highly recommended.

Abstract:The original responsibilities of university library mainly focus on cultivating creative talents, scientific and technological innovation and knowledge discovery. The rapid development of new media application has brought unprecedented challenges to the traditional library information literacy education. Taking the library of Tianjin University as a case, this paper introduced the exploration and practice of subject service. In the face of multi-dimensional subject information needs and deep-seated knowledge service requirements in the digital scientific research environment, libraries should make use of their own advantages, take more methods to embed in the front line of scientific research, and provide a full range of subject services for teachers and students. Abstract:PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to introduce the functional framework of a subject service virtual communities' platform and implementation planning at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library.Design/methodology/approachFirst, the paper analyses the three aspects which should be considered when libraries carry out subject information services, next points out the users' behavior preferences of scholar communities to use libraries services and access library resources, and then explains the limitation of current methods used by academic libraries to reveal and deliver resources and services. Second, the paper describes the advantages of using a virtual community platform to reveal library subject resources, services, and to construct the communication environment for subject users. Finally, the functional framework of the subject service virtual communities and implementation planning at the Library of Shanghai Jiao Tong University are illustrated.FindingsBased on the next‐generation discovery and delivery system – Primo – subject service virtual communities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library integrate diverse functions as follows to one platform: Subject information discovery and accessing (subject information letters, subject information gateway, subject information one‐stop search), Subject information blog, Subject information literacy instruction, Subject information generation and preservation, Subject information consultation. Besides “one‐stop” accessing and obtaining only needed library resources and services, the virtual communities platform gives subject users a more convenient and more attractive environment to preserve their research results and share their experiences.Originality/valueSubject service at Chinese academic libraries has become a hot topic in recent years. Advice on how to support the service and make it become more effective and attractive is also an important problem. This article covers various library systems and tools that can be used to build subject service virtual communities and shows it is valuable and could be tried elsewhere.

Abstract:With the continuous improvement of China's social and economic level, education, especially college education, has been highly valued by people and has achieved certain results. For the development of colleges and universities, library construction is an important part of it and to a certain extent promotes the stable development of colleges and universities. Judging from the actual development of domestic university libraries, many university libraries have gradually entered the path of socialized service. Due to the profound influence of traditional education mode and test-oriented education concept, many university libraries in China are currently developing socialization. There are some problems that need to be solved in the service work process. The existence of these problems makes many domestic university libraries unable to play their own roles and individual values, and it also seriously affects the rapid development of China's college education. Based on this situation, the author makes an in-depth analysis and discussion on the status quo and optimization strategies of the socialization service of university libraries in China, hoping to provide reference for the social service work of college libraries nationwide.

Abstract:It has become a trend for academic libraries to manage collection development by subject,which aims to improve the quality of library collections.The subject librarian with special expertise has an important role in the practice of collection development.However the actual role and position of subject librarians in collection development varies from library to library,which is classified into three types as follows: delivery,participation and responsibility.The pattern that subject librarian takes primary responsibility of subject collection development proves to be the best practice to make the work more effective and reasonable,which also facilitates subject-oriented service for the users.It is suggested that libraries reengineer business process and build an organizational mechanism for integrating collection development and services by subject to guarantee a sustainable improvement of total quality of subject collection development and services as well.

Abstract:Mobile service in libraries has become very popular in last few years. To notify the meaningful factors for the satisfaction with mobile library services, this study focuses on service quality and divides the factor into 4 sub-dimensions: resource quality, environment quality, interaction quality and outcome quality. The empirical findings revealed most sub-dimensions of service quality to be significant in explaining users’ satisfaction. Moreover, it was found that, there were different perception between public and academic library user groups regarding the sub-dimensions of mobile service quality and their influences on users’ satisfaction.
