Recreational Behavioral Process of Suburbia and Individual Decision-Making: A Case Study of Huilongguan Community,in Beijing

Abstract:In this thesis,the author studies the principle of the decision process of recreational behavior from the behavioral geography prospective,using questionnaire survey in Hui Long Guan in Beijing suburb and analyzing the data with statistical method and multi-logit model.First of all,the author described the features of their recreational spatial behavior.Moreover,the decision process is being studied.It comes that the individual characteristic influences the decision process as well as the objective socio-economic attributes.The less they were attracted to the recreational environment before moving in,the more they appreciate the recreational environment now,the more they prefer the suburb,lead to the more activities around their community.That supports the assumption that individuals make decisions with their perception and preference which are independent from their objective socio-economic attributes to some degree.And it is also noticed that there could exist dynamic adjustment along the decision process of the activities which are repeated many times.Finally,the evaluation of their behavior is examined.It is found that a few people will choose to recreate at other places to improve their satisfaction levels,which is guaranteed by their abilities to move.The most people who are unsatisfactory,however,compromise their dissatisfaction through lowering their frequency of the activities near the suburb.Only by focusing the people who are living in suburbs and their satisfaction,studying and applying the principle of their decision-making and evaluation to urban planning,could we achieve a better equality in space.
