Experimental Researches on the Individual Difference of Self-Presentation

Abstract:The Self-presentation is the process in which people control their desired impression formed among others.But there is individual difference in the self-presentation,that is,some people make their behavior consistent with inner state,others' behaviors change with situations.The differences result from the types of self-monitors,which match the self-identity.This paper explores whether(1)the self-presentation changes with the situations,(2)whether the individual difference of self-presentation could be interpreted by the self-monitor,and(3) whether self monitor correlates with self-identity.The result of experiment 1 shows that the subjects' attitudes change more when their attitudes are different than when they are the same with the others.Experiment 2 suggests that subjects' attitudes changes could be predicted by the style of self-monitors.Experiment 3 implies that self-monitor correlates with self-identity significantly.Finally,the results are discussed in terms of the implication of self-monitor typical social behaviors.
