Spatial Analysis on the Relation Between Illegal Cultivated Land Occupation and Economic Development at Provincial and Municipal Levels

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to understand the specific spatial factors in the economic development at different levels, which significantly impact illegally cultivated land occupation, in order to provide basis for decision making to strengthen land control and land supervision. The methods used include spatial econometrics, spatial error model and spatial lagging model. The results show that illegal cultivated land occupation is obviously relevant to fixed capital investment at provincial level in China; however, it is obviously relevant to local finance revenue and GDP at municipal level, taking Jiangxi province as an example. The paper concludes that it is thus important to pay attention to the impact of the factors, such as fixed capital investment, GDP growth and local finance revenue in economic development, on the illegal cultivated land occupation if we aims to achieve the reduction of illegal cultivated land occupation, and the land use in a legally orderliness, reasonable and sustainable way.
