Spatial-temporal Variation Analysis of the Economic Density of Urban Construction Land

Abstract:The purpose of the study is to analyze the economic density of urban construction land in Jiangsu between 1998 and 2008,taking into account both the land and economic perspectives.It can provide the scientific basis for adjusting urban land use patterns,optimizing industrial structure,formulating land use policy,and so on.Methods employed include exploratory spatial data analysis(ESDA) and region statistical analysis method such as coefficient of variation and Theil index.Results showed that 1) intensive use of urban construction land in Jiangsu has increased since 1998,and the economic density of construction land between northern and southern region was different;2) intra-regional disparities between southern Jiangsu,central Jiangsu and northern Jiangsu have gradually attenuated;3) significant spatial autocorrelation existed in the distribution of economic density of construction land at county level,and high-value clustering phenomenon mainly located in southern region,while low-value clustering phenomenon located in northern areas.It is concluded that regionally statistical analysis and ESDA can reveal the status and spatial-temporal characteristic of the urban construction land efficiency.
