Abstract:Changes in land-use that are caused by humans directly affect the pattern, structure, and functioning of ecosystems, as well as their ability to provide services, all of which contribute to and worsen ecosystem vulnerability. This study used the Guanzhong region of Shaanxi Province as an example to evaluate ecosystem vulnerability using the "habitat-structure–function" assessment framework, which incorporates ecosystem services into the evaluation system and utilizes the geodetector to identify the major drivers affecting the vulnerability of ecosystems. The results showed that: (1) the water yield and grain productivity in GZR displayed a trend of growth with fluctuating, while the carbon storage and habitat quality services exhibited a downward trend; (2) ecosystem vulnerability in GZR was dominated by light and medium vulnerability, with low-value zones mostly located in the southwestern and northern forested region, and medium-value zones concentrated in the central plains; and high-value zones distributed sporadically in the urban core of Xi'an and northeast of Weinan; (3) natural factors such as the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, evaporation and elevation were the major factors affecting ecosystem vulnerability; the effects of factor interactions all exceed the effects of individual factor, and interactions between natural factors are more significant than interactions between natural and anthropogenic factors. (4) using an approach that integrates the current state of static ecosystem vulnerability with the intensity of dynamic vulnerability changes, the Guanzhong region was divided into three different management zones: ecological optimization zones, ecological control zones, and ecological management zones. Long-time ecosystem vulnerability monitoring and driver analysis can furnish policymakers with a scientific basis for ecological management and optimization.
