Abstract:In the present paper, the ray path in a solid state Eckige-Schraube laser is analyzed by the tensor method. The properties of self compensation for thermal distortion and of symmetry in both transverse directions are proved.

Abstract:Considering the kinetic and fluid dynamic processes in the gain medium, a theoretical model is established to describe the mechanism of thermal-lensing effect in an exciplex pumped Cs vapor laser. The three-dimensional distribution of temperature and index of refraction in the gain medium are depicted. The effective focal length and radius of thermal lens are predicted. Our simulation results show the thermal lens plays a non-negligible role in high-power XPCsLs and can be significantly aggravated in higher wall temperature, buffer pressure and pump intensity. The divergence of laser beam influenced by thermal lens is also made in detail. This model is helpful for in-depth understanding of the thermal-lensing effect in XPALs.

Abstract:The properties of polarization of ES-Laser were analyzed through Hones vectors and Jones matrixes. The Jones transformation matrix representing a round trip of the ray in the laser cavity has been obtained. The properties of self-reproduction of polarization mode have been proved. The variation regulation of polarization loss with the incidence angle to the end face of the laser medium was discussed, and the calculation results were presented.

Abstract:A concise mathematical model was established to describe the radial temperature distribution of a metal-vapor laser tube with an axial temperature controller. The analytical solution of the radial temperature caused by thermal radiation and thermal conduction was obtained. The influences of the axial temperature controller on the discharge tube wall temperature and its radial temperature distribution were further calculated and analyzed. It is shown that the axial temperature controller can independently adjust the laser tube wall temperature, reduce the radial temperature gradient in some degree, and therefore improve the laser efficiency and stability.

Abstract:The super luminescent diode light source is commonly used in Fiber-optic gyroscope. The wavelength temperature stability is one of its key parameters. In this work, simulation model of temperature field of the SLD light source is established, and the temperature distribution of SLD internal structure is simulated and researched. A temperature compensation scheme is designed according to the simulation result and experiment is done to confirm the specific parameter of compensation circuit. Then the designed compensation scheme is used in temperature control circuit of SLD, and the performance of compensated SLD light source is tested. An improvement of 62% is demonstrated compared with uncompensated SLD.

Abstract:A simple model of temperature field was presented for the Ne-H2-CuBr laser discharge tube, and discharge tube with diaphragms. An analytical expression of the radial temperature distribution in the tube was given. Abstract:In high power laser systems, nonlinear effect, one of the key factors of beam wavefront aberration and even irreversible damage to system, has always been one of the top considerations of researchers for decades. A hybrid ray-tracing method for both linear media and nonlinear media based on geometric optics is presented in this paper and realized by programming. In a simple optic system with KDP crystal, an obvious decline of beam quality is observed in high laser power density conditions and a method taking component intervals as compensation of beam quality is proved feasible. Considering the complexity of traditional modeling method based on surfaces, a modeling method based on components is established. Hopefully, the conclusions and flaws of this paper can shed light on relevant work and further research.

Abstract:An axisymmetric thermo-mechanical model is developed for laser-driven non-contact transfer printing, which involves laser-induced impulsive heating to initiate separation at the interface between a soft, elastomeric stamp and hard micro/nanomaterials (i.e., inks) on its surface, due to a large mismatch in coefficients of thermal expansion. The result is the active ejection of the inks from the stamp, to a spatially separated receiving substrate, thereby representing the printing step. The model gives analytically the temperature field, and also a scaling law for the energy release rate for delamination at the interface between the stamp and an ink in the form of a rigid plate. The normalized critical laser pulse time for interfacial delamination depends only on the normalized absorbed laser power and width of the ink structure, and has been verified by experiments.

Abstract:The wavefront aberration induced by turbulent flow field in liquid-convection-cooled disk laser is numerically analyzed. By using the large-eddy-simulation model, the structure of time-random turbulent eddies are described and the effects of turbulent eddies on wavefront aberration are illustrated, indicating that the wavefront aberration varies primarily with the temperature field. By integrating the thermal-induced variations of the refractive index along the laser beam path within the flowing liquid, the two-dimensional wavefront aberration is obtained, showing that the wavefront aberration occurs mainly at the thermal boundary layer, where the temperature gradient is large. Abstract:The theoretical analysis of thermal effects in corner-bumped slab solid-state lasers is presented.A new model of the heat distribution is proposed.Based on this model,the distribution of temperature and stress is calculated.The optical distortion induced by the temperature and stress is also analyzed.These results may provide the fundamental theory for the stable design of corner-bumped all solid-state lasers.

Abstract:The curvature type of the thermal lens generated in a zigzag slab laser is numerically analysed. It is found that the curvature type of the thermal lens varies alternatively between the convex and the concave lenses with the number of bounces of light within the slab, which can be well explained by the trace of the zigzag propagation. In addition, we conclude that the beamlet with a larger number of bounces experiences weaker thermal lensing but more serious wavefront deformation due to the large side lobe portion in the curve of optical path difference.

Abstract:We investigate the thermal lensing along the direction of heat removal in a zigzag slab laser by numerically computing its temperature distribution, the OPD profile and the focal length of the thermal lens. Particular attention is paid to the dependence of the curvature type of the thermal lens on the number of bounces. As the number of bounces increases consecutively, the curvature type of the thermal lens in the slab thickness direction oscillates between the concave lens and the convex one, but not in an alternate manner. The reason is disclosed that for the convex lens case, the average temperature along the route, through which the ray on the edge of the main lobe aperture travels, is much lower than that at the center. The formation of the concave lens can be well explained in a similar way. In addition, we conclude that the beamlet with a larger number of bounces experiences weaker thermal lensing but more serious wavefront deformation due to the large side lobe portion in the curve of optical path difference. The analysis and the discussion provide a good reference for the design of slab parameters and the selection of the number of bounces. Furthermore, multiple zigzag slabs with different curvature types of thermal lenses can be placed in a cavity or lined up as a multi-stage amplifier, which may compensate the thermal lensing and the wavefront deformation, thus improving the beam quality.

Abstract:The temperature and the thermal stress in medium of heat capacity laser were simulated based on the transient heat conduction equations and the elastic mechanics equations by using the finite element method.The transient temperature and thermal stress distribution were achieved with the different pump distribution in the end surface of the medium.Uneven distribution of the heat deposition power density was considered.The simulation shows that the temperature of the laser medium with even pump distribution is lower,the temperature gradient and the thermal stress is smaller than that with the uneven pump distribution.

Abstract:In this paper, we theoretically analyzed the astigmatism, stability, beam parameters and strength of Kerr self-focusing in the cavity of a KLM laser. In these calculations, we used a new method in which we combined the ABCD matrices outside the nonlinear medium with solving the propagation equation group of elliptical Gaussian-beam directly by fourth-order Runge-Kutta method in the nonlinear medium. From that method we got self-consistent q parameters to analyze the five-mirror cavity of a SESAM started KLM laser. These results provide a theoretical basis for the designs and experiments of this kind of lasers.

Abstract:In this paper,an analysis of the internal heat source of fiber optic coil is carried out according to the temperature interference in the practical application and a mathematical model of the fiber coil with changeable temperature is built.Temperature experiments of the fiber optic coil within range from -40℃ to +60℃ are designed and completed,and the difference of the temperature between inside and outside the fiber coil is analyzed to determine the factor of the compensation model.The output of fiber optic gyroscope is compensated over the full temperature range.Experiments show that the bias stability can be doubled through the organic combination of the thermal design and the temperature compensation,and the long-term stability and accuracy can be ensured.

Abstract:The Stefan conditions are suitable for describing the solid-liquid phase change processes with moving interface. However, the existing literature only focuses on the Stefan problem of heat conduction and does not involve the thermo-mechanical coupling effects. In this work, the generalized thermoelastic Stefan problem with spatio-temporal nonlocal effect is investigated. The solid-liquid phase change of silicon with picosecond pulse laser machining is depicted by the Stefan interface conditions. We find the solutions making use of Laplace transformation and Laplace numerical inverse transformation. The temperature distribution at the moment of surface melting is seen as the initial state of the second phase. The distributions of transient thermoelastic responses under different laser intensities, pulse widths, fractional order parameters, spatial nonlocal parameters and time are obtained and expressed graphically.

Abstract:This paper deals with error analysis of experimental data of a laser speckle photography (LSP) application which measures a temperature field of natural convection around a heated cylindrical tube. A method for error corrections is proposed and presented in detail. Experimental and theoretical investigations have shown errors in the measurements are induced due to four causes. These error sources are discussed and suggestions to avoid the errors are given. Due to the error analysis and the introduced methods for their correction the temperature distribution, respectively the temperature gradient in a thermal boundary layer can be obtained more accurately.

Abstract:A simulation method was developed to calculate the thermal focal length for corner-pumped composite slab lasers. Traditional methods assume a uniform heat distribution or an exponential decay heat distribution to simplify the calculation, but the results do not agree well with experimental data for the thermal focal length, which affects the laser resonator design. In the current model, the heat distribution is obtained from the ray trace software Tracepro, which can accurately calculate the pump light absorption distribution in the gain medium. The simulation results with this method have a relative error of 4% compared to experimental results, which is much better than traditional methods with relative errors of 14% for corner-pumped composite slab lasers and demonstrates the effectiveness of this method for the development of new lasers.

Abstract:By studying the theory of heat conduction, we established the transient heat conduction equation for a pulsed laser diode (LD) end pumped thulium doped laser. Combined with the actual working environment of a pulsed LD end pumped single-ended composite Tm:YAG rod, the expressions of transient temperature distribution and the time-varying thermal focal length were obtained by the integral transform method and the method of separation of variables. Under 240 mJ pump energy and repetition rates of 80, 90, and 100 Hz, thermal effects in the pulsed LD end pumped single-ended composite Tm:YAG rod were simulated, and the thermal lens focal length of the single-ended composite Tm:YAG rod was measured in experiments. The theoretical analysis was verified by the comparison between the theoretical results and the experimental results.

Abstract:<p>Laser brazing has recently become a preferred process for the joining of thin-gauge sheet metal for outer closures in automotive body structures. One of the key concerns is the very small and often hard-to-predict surface distortions resulting from the transient and high-powered laser heat input. In this study, we established an efficient shell-element-based sequential thermal-structural finite element simulation procedure to predict the laser-brazing-induced surface distortion. The procedure was experimentally validated via both temperature and distortion measurements in laser brazing of two 0.65 mm thick L-shape steel plates. Following the established procedure, a series of simulation cases were carried out to parametrically study the effects of laser beam offset, clamping conditions and trailing cooling on the predicted distortions. It was found that strong fixturing and trailing cooling can effectively reduce brazing-induced distortion.</p>
