Abstract:Fifteen steroids were isolated from the soft coral Dendronephthya sp., of which five are determined as new compounds, namely (22E)-3-O-β-formylcholest-5,22-diene (1), (22E)-3-O-β-formyl-24-methyl-cholest-5,22-diene (2), 2-ethoxycarbonyl-2-β-hydroxy-A-nor-cholest-5-ene-4-one (3), (22E)-2-ethoxycarbonyl-2-β-hydroxy-A-nor-cholest-5,22-diene-4-one (4), and (22E)-2-ethoxycarbonyl-2-β-hydroxy-24-mthyl-A-nor-cholest-5,22-diene-4- one (5). 1 and 2 belonged to 3-O-formylated cholesterol analogues, and 3 to 5 are unique ring A-contracted steroids. Their structures were elucidated by extensive 2D NMR in association with IR, MS analysis.

Abstract:Five new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, schisphenlignans A-E (1-5), together with eight known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera. The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:A series of cyclohexylethanoids, including two new compounds, 1-hydroxy-1-(8-palmitoyloxyethyl) cyclohexanone (1) and 5-O-butyl cleroindin D (2), together with five known ones, rengyolone (3), cleroindin C (4), cleroindin B (5), rengyol (6) and isorengyol (7), were isolated from the leaves of Clerodendrum trichotomum. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses and by comparison of their NMR data with those in the literatures. Compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated for their cytotoxicity against A549 human tumor cell line.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To study the chemical constituents in the aerial parts of Coleus forskohlii.METHODS:The compounds were isolated by various column chromatographic methods, and their structures were identified by spectroscopic methods.RESULTS:Twelve compounds were isolated and identified as chamaecydin (1), 6 alpha-hydroxydemethylcryptojaponol (2), alpha-cedrene (3), oleanolic acid (4), forskolin G (5), forskolin J (6), 1,6-diacetyl-9-deoxyforskolin (7), forskolin A (8), forskolin H (9), 6-acetyl-1-deoxyforskolin (10), betulinic acid (11), beta-sitosterol (12).CONCLUSION:Compounds 1 - 3 are isolated from Coleus genus for the first time, and compound 4 is isolated from C. forskohlii for the first time.

Abstract:Clerodendrum phlomidis L., (Lamiaceae), is a shrub, generally found in south-east Asia. This genus has great ethno-medicinal importance in various indigenous systems of medicine like Indian, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Siddha, Unani and Japanese for the treatment of numerous diseases like syphilis, typhoid, cancer, jaundice, hypertension, constipation, gonorrhea, piles, urinary diseases, nervous disorders, inflammation and measles. Isolation of three new compounds from methanolic extracts of roots of plant namely 3′-stigmast-5-enyl-4′-octadecanyl protocatechuic acid (2), n-tetratriacont-24-enoic acid (3), n-tetradecanyl- glucopyranosyl–(2′→1″) glucopyranoside (5) along with known β-sitosteryl n-octadec-9′,12′-dienoate (1), n-octadec-9-enoyl- β-D-arabinopyranoside (4) and α-D-glucopyranosyl-(6→1′)-α-D-glucopyranosyl-(6′→1″)-α-D-glucopyranoside (6) have been done on the basis of spectral data analysis and chemical means.

Abstract:Three unusual sesterterpenoids featuring unprecedented rearranged colquhounane (C25) and tetranorcolquhounane (C21) frameworks, colquhounoids E (1) and F (3) and norcolquhounoid F (2), were isolated from a Lamiaceae medicinal plant Colquhounia coccinea var. mollis. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis and quantum chemical calculations. A biomimetic inspired regioselective cyclopropane cleavage was achieved under acidic conditions. The immunosuppressive activities of these new sesterterpenoids were also evaluated.

Abstract:Six new anthracyclines (1-6) were obtained by the investigation of the solid fermented extract of a marine-derived Streptomyces sp. NB-A13. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analysis, including 1D and 2D NMR, HRESIMS, UV and IR. The absolute configurations of compounds 1-5 were established by calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) using time dependent density functional theory. Among the isolates, four compounds (2, 3, 5 and 6) showed moderate cytotoxic activity against PC3 cells (prostate cancer cells) with IC50 values of 7.0 +/- 0.3 mu M, 0.92 +/- 0.05 mu M, 2.1 +/- 0.7 mu M and 9.8 +/- 0.7 mu M, respectively.

Abstract:Thirteen steroids(1-13) were isolated from the non-alkaloid constituents of Uncaria rhynchophylla by column chromatography on silica gel, ODS, Sephadex LH-20, and preparative HPLC chromatography, and their structures were elucidated by analyses of the MS and NMR spectral data. All the compounds were isolated from the genus Uncaria for the first time, and 1 was a new compound. The ~1H-NMR and ~(13)C-NMR data of two compounds(12 and 13) in deuteron-chloroform were completely assigned. This study enriched the steroid constituents of U. rhynchophylla and provided scientific references for the elucidation of active constituents and further development and utilization of U. rhynchophylla.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the leaves and twigs of Croton yanhuii led to the isolation of seven highly modified nor-clerodane diterpenoids (1-7), including three new ones, croyanoids A-C (1-3), along with four known analogues (4-7). Compound 1 incorporates a 5,12-epoxy ring, forming a unique cage-like, 6/6/6/5-fused tetracyclic ring system. Their structures were established by extensive spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configurations of 1-4 were determined by a combination of circular dichroism (CD) analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. All compounds were tested in an array of bioassays, but were inactive. Crotoeurin A (7), a nor-clerodane dimer with a high yield of 0.2‰ isolated in current study, was considered as a chemotaxonomic marker for this species.

Abstract:Fifteen new labdane-type diterpenoids, sublyratins A-O (1-15), along with four known analogues (16-19) were isolated from the aerial parts of Croton sublyratus. Their structural assignments were challenging due to the stereoisomeric features evident and were achieved by analyzing comprehensively the spectroscopic data and electronic circular dichroism spectra and using X-ray crystallographic analysis. Compounds 9 and 16-18 displayed cytotoxic activity against the HL-60 cell line with IC50 values of 1.5-2.8 μM.

Abstract:Four new ergostane-type steroids (1-4) were isolated from the fungus of Lasiodiplodia pseudotheobromae. Their structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic methods and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1, an unusual steroid, possesses a unique ring system with A-ring contracted and formed a new delta-lactone ring between C-3 and C-9. Abstract:From the soft coral Cladiella krempfi collected from the inner reef of Hainan Island,the South China Sea,12 compounds,named 1,2-[1',3',4']oxodithiin-pregna-20-en-3-one(1);19-nor-4-methylpregna-1,3,5(10),20-tetraen-1-ol(2);pregna-1-en-3-one-20-ol(3);pregna-1,7-dien-20-ol-3-one(4);Pregna-5,20-dien-3-O-α-fucopyranoside(5);Pregna-20-en-3-O-α-fucopyranoiside(6);pregna-1,20-dien-3-one(7);1,4,20-pregnatien-3-one(8);24-methyl-5α-cholesta-7,22-diene-3β,5,6β-triol(9);26-methyl-24-methylenecholest-5-en-3β-ol(10);Cholesta-5-en-3β-ol(11);β-sitosterol(12)were isolated.Their structures were identified by1H and 13C NMR,2D NMR,MS spectral analysis and in comparison of the spectral data with those reported in literatures.Compounds 1~6 were isolated from the genus Cladiella for the first time.In addition,the plausible biogenetic paths for compounds were also discussed.

Abstract:As part of our continuing efforts toward the discovery of the biologically active diterpenoids from medicinal plants, six new C‐ring aromatized abietane diterpenoids, clerodenoids A–F (1–6), were isolated from Clerodendrum chinense. These C‐ring aromatized compounds mainly belonged to the rearranged abietane skeletons of 17(15→16)‐abeo‐abietane (2–4) and 17(15→16),18(4→3)‐diabeo‐abietane (5 and 6). Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic data, X‐ray crystallography, and ECD calculation. A. Chev. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis 1D and 2D NMR, and mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS in positive mode).

Abstract:From the mangrove plant Aegiceras comiculatum collected in South China an endophytic Streptomyces sp. was isolated. Following cultivation in a seawater-based medium, four new cyclopentenone derivatives, namely (5R) 3-amino-5-hydroxy-5-vinyl-2cyclopenten-1-one (1), (5R) 5-hydroxy-3-(methoxycarbonyl)amino]-5-vinyl-2-cyclopenten-1-one (2), (5R) 5hydroxy-3-[ [2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl] amino]-5-vinyl-2cyclopenten-1-one (3), and 3-isobutylpropanamide-2cyclopenten-1-one (4), were obtained from the fermentation broth. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic (UV, IR, ESIMS, and 2D NMR) data analyses.
