Abstract:Objective:As first reported by V. K. Frantz in 1959, solid-suedopapillary tumor of pancreas (SPTP) is a rare neoplasm of low malignant potential that mostly affects young women, although its pathogenesis remains unidentified. This study is to investigate the radiological findings of SPTP and improve its diagnosis. Methods: Both clinical data and CT and MRI features of 5 cases of pathologically proved SPTP were retrospectively analyzed. Results: All the 5 patients were young females with giant solid cystic masses in the pancreas. Most tumors were completely encapsulated with well defined margins on contrast enhanced images. MRI findings showed mixed signal intensity on T1WI and T2WI with displacement of the adjacent viscerals caused by giant tumor size. The tumors were enhanced slightly in the arterial phase and markedly in the portal venous phase, with hypo-attenuation of the cystic portions on both pre-and post-contrast views. Calcification was found in 1 case, mild pancreatic duct dilation in another, but intra-and extra-hepatic bile duct dilation in none of the cases. Conclusion: The imaging appearance of SPTP has its typical characteristics, and the disease, with its clinical manifestations taken into consideration, can be well differentiated from other pancreas neoplasms with similar radiological features.
