On Lefebvre's Production of Space

Abstract:As the main theoretical resource of the"space turn"in recent academes, Lefebvre's Production of Space offers a penetrating insight into social space which magnificently illustrates the global urbanization nowadays.To describe the division between material,metal and social spaces,Lefebvre pays much at- tention to the concept of"production,"and defines it as something both creative and repetitive,therefore integrates both objects and relations for a social space. My paper also discusses Lefebvre's reconstruction of Marxism,including his re- reading of Capital concentrating on the land which supposedly was missing in Marx's.oppositional method,such as capital and labor,bourgeois and proletari- at.The deep influence of Lefebvre's space theory,however,may indicate the great instability of urban space created under the capitalist conditions.
