The Uneven Development of Capital: the Production of Space in China's Urban Village

Abstract:The uneven development of capital is one of the typical theories of space production. From the perspective of uneven development,this paper chooses urban village,the special product of China's urbanization,to analyze it historical process. It conducts detailed analysis on the urban village' s uneven development of capital in three aspects: the choice of geographical environment,the breaking and reshaping of administrative boundaries and producing the uneven social relations to maintain capital's profits. It concludes that there are two special properties in China's space production: first,a large imbalance in different regions and surplus labor are the advantages of capital profit creation. And second,the joint of global capital and administrative systems promote the accumulation of economic capital in the form of inner city differences and labor structure imbalances production.
