Abstract:German poet Friedrich Hlderlin puts forward the proposition of how man survives poetically,which is also an artistic problem the current artists must face.As a dweller in art and an influential artist at modern times,Ren Chuangwen makes distinctive contributions to inheriting Chinese cultural tradition and exploring canvas language and form.His paintings perfectly interpret how to carry out the imagery principle of oriental aesthetics by the use of canvas language and form.This principle makes his paintings have aesthetic value of oriental poetry,thus realizing H?lderlin's proposition.

Analysing key poems through the lens of pantheism, the role of imagination, and the symbolic potential of landscape, the paper illuminates how Romantic poets utilize nature to challenge societal norms, express personal anxieties and aspirations, and ultimately, reveal a nuanced understanding of the human condition in relation to the natural world.

Abstract:Although there is no direct inheritance between the idea of Holderlin and that of Whitman, they do have some common points in interpretation of the poet and philosopher, definition of the value of poetry and philosophy, and persistent exploration of life and rationality. Tracing of their ideological roots, it can be seen that Greek philosophy or Greek cultural tradition has influenced Holderlin and Whitman’s poetry and poetics in varying degrees. In fact, the fundamental spirit of the Western poetic thoughts just lies in the Greek tradition.

Abstract:The “Ode to the West Wind” has received considerable special comment from a number of students of Shelley. H. B. Forman has indicated, in part, its emotional background; Professor H. C. Pancoast has discussed it in relation to the scene and climate in which it was written; W. E. Peck has pointed out parallels of its thought and imagery in Shelley's earlier work; and Professor B. P. Kurtz has recently shown in an admirable study the relation of its theme of life and death and regeneration to the poet's “pursuit of death” throughout his work. There is wanting, however, a detailed account of the sources, the development, and the significance of the poem's central symbols, the Wind and the Leaves, and of the intellectual and emotional disturbances, associated for Shelley with the symbols, which may have been the direct causes of his writing the “Ode.” This study attempts such an account.

Abstract:This paper purports to study the romantic characteristics of the modern Chinese poet and thinker Feng Zhi (1905-1993) in his formative years in the 1920s.By focusing on his relationships with both the Chinese and the German aesthetic traditions,the present paper tries to explain how Feng Zhi was influenced by those traditions and why he was an advocate of the principle of the unification of nature and spirit.Though confronting with almost the same perplexities of modernity,Feng Zhi was in many different ways closer to the German romantic writers Novalis and Tieck than to the Schlegel brothers and Kleist.

Abstract:As a Victorian novelist and 20th century poet, Thomas Hardy' s thoughts display uniqueness and immortality. In his voluminous literary production permeates strong nostalgic sentiments. It is by no means accidental. With skillful and delicate creative finesse, on his literary characters he casts his personal nostalgic sentiments. The hero Angel Clare in Tess of the D' Urbervilles is a typical example. Through an analysis of Clare' s thoughts, we can safely proclaim that Hardy' s nostalgic sentiments are closely related with a sense of time. Based on an analysis of Clare, this article is devoted to the exploration of the nostalgic sentiments in Hardy's literary creation.

Abstract:In the 20th century, the most frequently used critical term in Li Bai studies is “romanticism.” Li Bai is regarded as a romantic poet and his poetry is typical of romantic writing. But nowadays, the usage of these terms has been under attack. It is considered to be alien to the nature of classical Chinese literature. The most influential volume of Chinese literary history edited by Yuan Xingpei, which is published seven years ago, pays little attention to this term in the chapter on Li Bai. Are Western critical ideas really inappropriate in understanding Chinese classical literature? Can we imagine a wholly purified criticism that depends only on native Chinese critical terms without any Western impact? As modern readers, how can we understand our literary past? These questions have been under discussion for a long time ever since the modernity of Chinese literary criticism has become a major topic in modern literary studies. Reconsidering the establishment and spread of the concept “romanticism” in the study of Li Bai, will offer us some good answers to those questions.

Abstract:Ecological discourse analysis, as an emerging discipline, aims to reveal the role of language in ecology. The transitivity system serves as a theoretical foundation, which helps to explore the ecological ideas implied in ecological discourse. William Wordsworth, a British Romantic poet, is famous for his poetry depicting natural scenery. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is a representative work of his nature poems. Based on the transitivity system of systemic functional linguistics, this paper conducts a deep analysis of Wordsworth's nature poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud from the perspective of ecological discourse analysis, exploring the basic path of the poet's expression of his ecological view through language. On the one hand, the poet regards the relationship between humans and all things in nature as a harmonious and equal dialogue partnership. He wants to advocate respect for nature, awe of nature, and oppose anthropocentrism, promoting the ecological idea of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, which reflects his positive ecological view. On the other hand, by studying Wordsworth's ecological ideas, readers can be guided to establish a healthy ecological view, enhance their sense of ecological responsibility, and promote people's love for nature and friendship with nature.

Abstract:Su Manshu was the founder of the 20th-century romantic literature in China. His translation of Byron's and Shelley's poems, his literary writing and his unbound and affective personality were all taken as spiritual resources for those romantic writers in the May-4th day. The literary image he contributed to modern literature--an alien, solitary and melancholy wanderer--is now regarded as the typical image of the May-4th romantic novel. Therefore, it is the key to understanding the rise and silence of Chinese modern romanticism to explore the connection between Su Manshu and the May-4th romanticism.

Abstract:As one of the classical texts in the history of Chinese Modern poetry, Bian Zhilin's poems creates a poetic philosophy of love, which includes three dimensions revealed through some key images such as mirror, fish fossil and water. They are relationship, timeliness and creativity of love. Accordingly, love is between I and you, actualized in the time and always unfinished. In order to overcome the inclination of alienation, temporality and nihilism, and to get harmonization and eternity, love should be created by the lovers without cease. These views of love are the reflection of modern experience, grown out of the junction of Sino-western poetics. So they are not only national and global, but also modernistic.

Abstract:This paper focuses on Sun Shaozhen's new works A Lecture on Literariness, deeply analyzes Sun's study on the logic of feeling and the literary formal principles, and compares it with Susan Langer's formalist aesthetics in detail. As a conclusion, we consider that Langer's study on art forms achieves a considerable height and strength, but it is a little empty because of its metaphysical character, while Sun deepens, particularizes, reifys and operationalizes the metaphysical concepts and principles which Langer cannot discuss deeply with his unusual abilities of induction and abstraction. The difference between Sun and Langer shows they both inherit and exceed each academic tradition, and construct their own theory proceeding from each theoretical aim and interest.

Abstract:On Western Classical PoeticsLU Yang(Department of Chinese, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200433, China) Poetics,in a specific sense,is concerned with theory and criticism of poetry,while poetics,in a general sense,can be regarded as the synonym of literary theory. Since Aristotle,the Western poetics had been dominated by mimesis for more than two thousand years till the 19th century when romanticism turned to the inner world. However, a return to Aristotelian paradigm e-merged in the past century. Classical poetics won its full connotation during Renaissance,a period characterized with rediscovery of ancient writers and writings and advocacy of humanism in the idea,style,genre and subject. After 17th century, poetics was divorced from rhetoric in its transition from neo-classicism to romanticism. It’ s no wonder to witness a symposium of poetic spec-ter and the absolute spirit in Hegel’ s Lectures on Aesthetics.
