Abstract:Objective This study was aimed to investigate the association between somatization of first-onset depression symptoms and plasma sexual hormone level in perimenopause(PMD).Methods The methods of Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD) and symptom checklist 90(SCL-90) were used to assess clinical characteristics in 94 patients with first-onset PMD.Plasma sexual hormone was examined by radioimmunoassay.Patients were equally divided into three parts by the SCL-90 scores of somatization factors. The association of somatization factor scores and the levels of sexual hormone were statistically analyzed. Results The level of plasma estrogen was significantly lower in patients with the highest scores of somatization than in patients with the lowest scores of somatization(103.77±53.08 vs 133.13±52.26,P=0.032),while the level of luteinizing hormone was higher in patients with highest scores of somatization than in patients with the lowest scores of somatization(17.30±16.90 vs 9.44±6.80,P=0.019).Conclusion The low level of estrogen is associated with somatization symptoms in PMD.The therapy of estrogen replacement may help to improve clinical symptoms.
